Cloud #10
By Marc Yankus
Located in New York, NY
Archival pigment print Signed, titled, numbered, and dated, verso 17 x 32 inches, sheet 12.75 x 30 inches, image (Edition of 15) 17 x 42 inches, sheet 15 x 40 inches, image (Edition of 15) This photograph is offered by ClampArt, located in New York City. Please note that prices increase as editions sell. Originally trained as a painter, and then working as a collage artist, Marc Yankus began incorporating his own photographs into his artwork around 1999. However, when he did so, it marked a turning point in his career. In many of Yankus’ photographs, textures scanned from old tintypes, books, and other objects are digitally layered on top of the artist’s original images. The superimposition of the old and the new serves as an apt metaphor of Yankus’ wider conceptual interests. Throughout his work, the artist oscillates not only between the old and the new, the past and the present, but also between figuration and landscape. Establishing a rhythm and play between timeless portraits and beautifully still and quiet landscapes and cityscapes, Yankus’ achievement is a wonderful consistency of mood. Hushed, introspective, and at turns even melancholic, this body of work is ultimately a reflection of the artist’s personal past and his passage into the present time. Marc Yankus’ fine art and publishing experience span a period of more than thirty years. His work has been included in exhibitions at The Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, New York; Exit Art, New York City; The Library of Congress, Washington, DC; and ClampArt, New York City. Yankus’ artwork has graced the covers of books by Salman Rushdie, Philip Roth, and Alan Hollinghurst, among many others. His images have also been used for theatrical posters for such acclaimed Broadway shows as “Jane Eyre”; August Wilson...

"Balcony World", photograph, city, architecture, building, geometry, pattern
Located in Toronto, Ontario
"Balcony World" is a black & white photograph on Etching Rag archival paper. It's a signed Edition of 20, available in sizes 16x24, 11x17 and 8x12 inches. It is a simple but complex composition (if that's possible), and typical of the artist there are only a few elements at play but they are powerfully at play. The hard line geometry of the rows of balconies and their shadows – their arrangement causes slippage in our viewing. They seem to point down but rise up. And inverting the perspective slightly, we're looking at rows of dead-end brick walls. The shadows now a ground. Shooting on the streets of New York, looking up and looking for often-missed city/sky collisions, Bob Krasner...

DJ Lovebug, Grandmaster Caz, Busy Bee photograph: Harlem 1980 by Charlie Ahearn
By Charlie Ahearn
Located in NEW YORK, NY
DJ Lovebug, Grandmaster Caz, Busy Bee at the Celebrity Club: Harlem, New York, 1980 by Charlie Ahearn, director of Wild Style (1982): A seminal early Hip Hop photograph featured as part of the exhibition: New York, New Music 1980-86: Museum of the City of New York (2021). Medium: Archival Inkjet Print on heavy-weight paper. Overall dimensions: 16 x 22 inches (Image size: 14 x 20 inches). Hand signed & numbered on the verso, from a limited edition of 10. Excellent overall condition. Provenance: Obtained directly from artist. Artist Bio: Charlie Ahearn, best known as the director of the classic hip-hop film Wild Style (1982), arrived in New York in 1973 to attend the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program. Later he was joined by his twin brother, John Ahearn, and they became part of the artists' group Colab (aka Collaborative Projects, Inc). Ahearn showed his early films in an abandoned Time Square massage parlour that Colab had taken over on the corner of 7th Avenue and 41st Street (where Ahearn also lived from 1981 to 1993). Colab's 1981 art show - titled, "The Times Square Show" - is famous for introducing Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring among many others. In 1982, Ahearn directed Wild Style - universally hailed as the first hip-hop movie. Wild Style immortalized the birth of an underground hip-hop scene changing the face of music, fashion, art & popular culture forever. Ahearn's recent silkscreen paintings depicting hip hop culture’s seminal years were exhibited at PPOW Gallery in New York in 2017 and Beyond The Streets (2019 & 2020); with selections of his photography and film work most recently exhibited at MFA Boston...

Now More Choices, Wall St., New York
By Haik Kocharian
Located in Hudson, NY
These photographs are Dye Sublimation Prints. Framing options available. "Surfing Color" presents photographs that are abstract creations born from realism. Kocharian emphasizes the ambient color in the tradition of minimalism, observing the beauty and mystery of light, shadows, tone, and moods. The environments within the photographs are transformed into ones of symbolism, challenging the viewer to question the images. As a result, a tension is created, like an energy trapped in a frame attempting to escape. Kocharian, who is also a filmmaker, brings a cinematic eye to his photography, as we experience images that reflect simplicity through his focus on light, color, and the documentation of ordinary life. In “Going Home,” Los Angeles a pool-like shadow on the foreground alters the nature and surrounding of the image as light breaches from the center of the bike during sunset. “Blue Highway”, Nevada leads the viewer into the deep blue of early dawn and draws them into a new beginning. His influences in these photographs include artists such as Mark Rothko and photographer William Eggleston, as Kocharian uses color, texture, geometry, and shapes to tell a story that evokes contemplation and introspection. Born in Armenia, Haik Kocharian was introduced to the world of art in his early childhood by his parents, who were theater and film actors. He began his studies at the Armenian Theater Academy and continued his education in film at Brooklyn College, where he also studied photography. Kocharian resides in New York City. In 2015, Kocharian released his first feature film, "Please be Normal," starring Oscar-nominated actor Sam Waterston. The film was nominated for a Critic’s Pick in the New York Times and won awards at two film festivals. Kocharian is actively involved in charity work and, as a photographer, he has collaborated with many non-profit organizations in the U.S. and abroad such as Village Health Partnership in Ethiopia and Meaningful World, a UN-affiliated NGO in Burundi, Kenya, and Rwanda. He has exhibited his works within galleries in New York such as Galerie Mourlot, Robin Rice Gallery, 92 Y Tribeca, and James Cohan Gallery, as well as group exhibitions at the Museum of the City of New York and the International Center for Photography. Kocharian was also a finalist in the Smithsonian Magazine Photo Competition. This is his third solo show at the Robin Rice Gallery. Couple Behind Curtain
By Pipo Nguyen-Duy
Located in New York, NY
Archival inkjet print mounted on aluminum Signed and numbered, verso 12 x 18 inches (Edition of 10) 20 x 30 inches (Edition of 7) 30 x 35 inches (Edition of 3) This artwork is offered by ClampArt, located in New York City. Pipo Nguyen-duy writes: “I began living in the United States in 1975 as a Vietnamese refugee. Consequently, cultural identity and cultural authenticity are some of the underlying themes of my visual explorations. Additionally, site-specificity has been an integral part of my studio practice, as I always consider geographical, historical, and cultural significance of the locations in my research. “From 2015 to 2017, I made photographs from my hotel window in Ho Chi Minh City, District 1. The second-floor window offered a commanding view of the alley where it widened before the sharp left turn located under my hotel where it became narrow again. The alley served as a short cut between the congested street where it began and ended at a crowded market. What separated my camera from the alleyway was the large glass window to dampen the noise and the thin white curtain for privacy. I spent close to six months in this sixty-four square-foot hotel room, photographing obsessively from six in the morning until late at night, only taking breaks to eat or to sleep. During my process, I remained as objective as a scientist gathering visual data. The camera tripod allowed me to keep the same perspective of the scenes outside my window throughout the day. “With this work, I aim to document, as if from the perspective of a natural scientist or archeologist. Using the camera to record facts rather than regarding it as a subjective tool, I have become increasingly intrigued with the idea of mapping my ‘own’ culture in hopes of understanding it from an outsider’s point of view using the hotel room as a metaphor for an in-between place. The window curtain was the variable that changed, in addition to the light, which also varied throughout the day. The curtain was a literal veil to the world and the culture outside my window. It serves as a metaphor for the lack of clarity and insight that I may have of my culture. From the alley I am hidden or visible depending on how wide the curtain was kept and the time of the day. The neatly arranged architecture seen from my window illustrated the rich history and the complex transition of the Vietnamese culture from French colonial, to American modernist, to contemporary high-rise. “The project began as a survey to categorize different types of people, record gestures and behavior, map traffic patterns, and capture ‘decisive’ moments of street scenes below. Conceptually, I intended this mapping project only to reveal my difficulties of defining home—however as the project grew, the complexities of the images also have become more layered. The first image of the series revealing a man masturbating at 6:00 a.m. while leaning against his scooter below the hotel window addresses the voyeuristic nature of the project. In one set of pictures...

Form - color photography
Located in New York, NY
This beautiful photograph is part of the "Water Geomaids" series which consists of 13 different images. It comes signed and numbered and is part of an edition of 12. We also offer other available sizes for these images (please contract us for more information). This piece comes framed in a white wooden frame (see image) The unseen need not be lost. Looking past the obvious and focusing on the lesser-known perspective introduces a parallel universe. Through using domestic objects and the human form in our environment, I work to orchestrate unique visions that are meticulously balanced in the ultimate pursuit of equilibrium. My goal is to inspire all those who see my work to begin looking at the world around them in a new way, evolving their view to uncover the undiscovered beauty in everyday things. color photography staged photography seascape photography pool photography
