East-West/West-East in Brouq Nature Reserve Qatar (Hand Signed by Richard Serra)
By Richard Serra
Located in New York, NY
Richard Serra East-West/West-East: A Permanent in the Brouq Nature Reserve, Qatar (Hand Signed by Richard Serra), ca. 2014 Superb provenance: donated by the artist to a major contemporary art organization Very rare offset lithograph (Hand Signed by Richard Serra) Boldly signed on the front in black marker by Richard Serra 24 × 36 inches Unframed Sscarce when hand signed by Richard Serra. This work depicts Serra's iconic permanent installation in the desert of Brouq Qatar: East-West/West-East, which has become a famous landmark in Qatar since its installation in 2014. According to the Jewish-born Richard Serra, he had been visiting Qatar for about 12 years, during which he was introduced to the Chairperson of the Qatari Museums Authority and the sister of the new Emir, Sheikha Mayassa, by the architect of the Museum of Islamic Art, IM Pei. It was Sheikh Mayassathat who urged Serra to build a sculpture in the desert. The artist once said it was the most important thing he had ever done. In 2020 the Serra sculpture was famously vandalized. This hand signed print has superb provenance as it was donated directly by the artist to a major charitable foundation and is accompanied by a documentation from a Foundation as well as a COA from the gallery. Richard Serra biography: Obsession is what it comes down to. It is difficult to think without obsession, and it is impossible to create something without a foundation that is rigorous, incontrovertible, and, in fact, to some degree repetitive. Repetition is the ritual of obsession. Repetition is a way to jumpstart the indecision of beginning. To persevere and to begin over and over again is to continue the obsession with work. Work comes out of work. In order to work you must already be working. —Richard Serra One of the most significant artists of his generation, he has produced large-scale, site-specific sculptures for architectural, urban, and landscape settings spanning the globe, from Iceland to New Zealand. Born in 1938 in San Francisco, Richard Serra lives and works in New York and on the North Fork of Long Island. Serra attended the University of California, Berkeley before transferring to the University of California, Santa Barbara graduating with a BA in English literature; he then studied painting at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut completing both a BFA and MFA. He began showing with Leo Castelli in 1968, and his first solo exhibition in New York was held at the Leo Castelli Warehouse the following year. His first solo museum exhibition was held at the Pasadena Art Museum, California, in 1970. Serra’s sculptures and drawings have been celebrated with two retrospectives at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, twenty years apart: Richard Serra/Sculpture (1986) and Richard Serra Sculpture: Forty Years (2007). He has had solo exhibitions at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (1977–78); Kunsthalle Tübingen, Germany (1978); Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, Germany (1978); Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, Netherlands (1980, 2014, and 2017); Centre Pompidou, Paris (1983–84); Museum Haus Lange, Krefeld, Germany (1985); Louisiana Museum, Humlebæk, Denmark (1986); Westfälisches Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte, Münster, Germany (1987); Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, Munich (1987); Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, Netherlands (1988); Bonnefantenmuseum, Maastricht, Netherlands (1990); Kunsthaus Zürich (1990); CAPC Musée d’Art Contemporain, Bordeaux, France (1990); Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid (1992); Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf, Germany (1992); Dia Center for the Arts, New York (1997); Centro de Arte Hélio Oiticica, Rio de Janeiro (1997–98); Trajan’s Market, Rome (1999–2000); Pulitzer Arts Foundation, St. Louis (2003); and Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli, Naples, Italy (2004). In 2005 The Matter of Time (1994–2005), a series of eight large-scale works, was installed permanently at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Spain. For Monumenta 2008, the major site-specific installation Promenade was shown at the Grand Palais, Paris. Three years later the large-scale, site-specific sculpture 7 was permanently installed opposite the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar. A major traveling retrospective dedicated to Serra’s drawings was presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Menil Collection, Houston (the organizing venue), from 2011 to 2012. In 2014 the Qatar Museums Authority presented a two-venue retrospective survey of Serra’s work, and East-West/West-East (2014) was permanently installed in the Brouq Nature Reserve, Zekreet, Qatar. In 2017 the Museum Wiesbaden, Germany, presented Richard Serra: Props, Films, Early Works; an overview of Serra’s work in film and video was shown at the Kunstmuseum Basel; and recent drawings were featured at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Serra has participated in numerous major international exhibitions, including Documenta (1972, 1977, 1982, and 1987), and the Biennale di Venezia (1980, 1984, 2001, and 2013), and his work has been included in many Whitney Annuals and Biennials (1968, 1970, 1973, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1995, and 2006). He is the recipient of the Leone d’Oro for lifetime achievement, Biennale di Venezia, Venice (2001); Orden Pour le Mérite...

Untitled Abstract Picture (Limited edition authorized promotional reproduction)
By Gerhard Richter
Located in New York, NY
Gerhard Richter Abstract Painting (one plate) - artist authorized, 2002 Offset lithographic reproduction on GardaMatt Art 250 GSM paper with full margins. (Artist Authorized) Not signed, edition of 3433 12 1/2 × 16 1/2 inches Unframed This striking limited edition color plate, printed on GardaMatt Art 250 GSM paper with full margins, was published on the occasion of the major twin Richter exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Art (Abstract Pictures) and the Museum of Modern Art (Gerhard Richter, 40 Years of Painting), and it depicts Richters 1999 Oil on Aluminum abstract picture, catalogue raisonne reference, 858-6. This print is unframed, unnumbered and in excellent condition. More about Gerhard Richter: Gerhard Richter was born in 1932 in Dresden, Germany. Throughout his career, Richter has negotiated the frontier between photography and painting, captivated by the way in which these two seemingly opposing practices speak to and challenge one another. From exuberant canvases rendered with a squeegee and acerbic color charts to paintings of photographic detail and close-ups of a single brushstroke, Richter moves effortlessly between the two mediums, reveling in the complexity of their relationship, while never asserting one above the other. Richter’s life traces the defining moments of twentieth-century history and his work reverberates with the trauma of National Socialism and the Holocaust. In the wake of the Second World War, Richter trained in a Socialist Realist style sanctioned by East Germany’s Communist government. When he defected to West Germany in 1961, a month before the Berlin Wall was erected, Richter left his entire artistic oeuvre up to that point behind. From 1961 to 1964—alongside Blinky Palermo and Sigmar Polke—Richter studied at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where he began to explore the material, conceptual, and historical implications of painting without ideological restraint. Richter’s earliest paintings in Düsseldorf, stimulated by a fascination with current affairs and popular culture, responded to images from magazines and newspaper cuttings. Through the 1960s, Richter continued to address found and media images of subjects such as military jets, portraits, and aerial photographs. Notably, he reimagined family pictures he had smuggled from East Germany that included his smiling uncle Rudi, dressed in a Nazi uniform...

The Dayton s Bag: Two original abstract lithographs plate signed double sided
By Frank Stella
Located in New York, NY
Frank Stella The Dayton's Bag, 1984 Two (2) separate offset lithographs: one on each side of a mixed media paper shopping bag 18 1/2 × 16 × 4 inches Plate signed "Frank Stella '84" twice: once on each side of the bag (see photos) This paper shopping bag with two different color offset lithographs (one on each side) was created by Frank Stella along with his longtime publisher Tyler Graphics. The work is plate signed Frank Stella on the top of each side, and each side bears the printed text, "Dayton's Salutes the Opening of Walker Art Center's New Galleries. Premiere Exhibition Selections from Tyler Graphics, 23 September '84 to 17 May '85." This elegant work, produced with the highest quality lithography by Frank Stella at Tyler Graphics, was created in a limited quantity solely for VIP collectors at that one day's event as it was a true one-off creation. Not too many of them have survived a quarter century on, and rarely in such good condition. Not too many people you know can boast that they possess a Frank Stella shopping bag. Note that this listing is for one two sided shopping bag, each side with a different color lithograph - so it's actually two Frank Stella lithographs...

Hommage a Caissa (for the Marcel Duchamp Fund of the American Chess Foundation)
By Marcel Duchamp
Located in New York, NY
Marcel Duchamp Hommage a Caissa (for the Marcel Duchamp Fund of the American Chess Foundation), 1966 Silkscreen Poster with Gold Matting Frame included Very scarce 1960s collectors item - rarely seen! Measurements: Framed: 26.25 x 21.25 x 0.5 inch Print: 26 x 21 inches Unsigned Accompanied by Certificate of Guarantee issued by Alpha 137 Gallery This extremely rare and historic invitation/exhibition poster was designed by Duchamp on the occasion of a group exhibition at New York's Cordier & Ekstrom Gallery for the Marcel Duchamp Fund of the Americas Chess Foundation in 1966. The exhibition was called "Hommage à Caissa." Duchamp invited 36 artists to contribute. It was in this show , held at the gallery at 978 Madison Ave, as of 1962 the Daniel Cordier & Arne Ekstrom Gallery, where Dalí revealed his chess set. Duchamp used the RSVP cards he sent to various artists as a design for this invitation. Many of these RSVP cards had the artist's autographs, and a few, like the one from Alexander Calder, included personal notes to Duchamp. Some of the more famous of the 36 artists featured in print who participated by donating works to this fundraiser include: Jasper Johns, Karl Gerstner, David Hare, Salvador Dali, Enrico Donati, Roberto Matta, Isamu Noguchi, Alexander Calder, Dorothea Tanning, Jean Tinguely, Niki De St. Phalle, George Segal, Robert Rauschenberg, James Rosenquist, Meret Oppenheim, Alfonso Ossorio, Robert Motherwell, Claes Oldenburg, Man Ray, Joan Miro, Rene Magritte, Richard Lindner, Roy Lichtenstein, Arman, Enrico Baj, Hans Bellmer, Victor Brauner, Alexander Liberman, William Copley, Cleve Gray and several others. However -- did you notice one name was noticeably absent? Andy Warhol! How could that be? Well, it turns out Andy Warhol has actually expected to be invited to exhibit but for some reason was overlooked. He did, however, attend the opening and filmed Duchamp in one of his famous "Screen Tests...

Peter Saul, Golden Gate Bridge, Pop Art social satire lithograph Signed/N Framed
Located in New York, NY
Peter Saul Golden Gate Bridge, 1968 Five color lithograph on German etching paper with deckled edges with collectors press chop mark Hand signed, titled and numbered "Artist Proof" lower front; also bears Collector's Press chop mark, and chop mark of master printer Tony Ko Frame Included: floated and framed in the original wood frame Provenance: from the Estate of the legendary California artist, Roy DeForest Accompanied by a copy of the publisher's documentation sheet (see image) Also accompanied by gallery issued Certificate of Guarantee This work is one of three hand signed Artist's Proofs, aside from the regular edition of 50. It is one of Peter Saul's most celebrated prints; the not so subtle at all symbolism speaks for itself, such as the gigantic dollar sign and wagging tongue (money talks loudly), set against San Francisco's iconic Golden Gate bridge. This print does not often appear on the market, as so many from this edition are already in the permanent collection of major museums and institutions. Other examples of this work were featured in the exhibitions: "Print Retrospective, 1966-2010", from September 16 – December 22, 2011 at the Carl Solway Gallery in Ohio, and "Peter Saul: Prints and Drawings, 1960 -1975", from February 26 – April 11, 2009, at The George Adams Gallery...
