Paul McCobb has been a bit of a dark horse in the world of Mid-Century Modern. Due to an early passing, McCobb didn't see the longevity of some of his modernist counterparts. But despite a short career, his body of work is impressively large.
Known best for his Planner Group series for Winchendon Furniture, the shovel chairs were introduced along with a wide range of seating and storage options. The shovel chairs are less common that the windsor-styled chairs and have since become sought after by collectors.
This examples had been in a tobacco finish with dark staining on the seats. They have been refinished with a black lacquer (an original factory option for the chair).
