Antique 17th Century Dutch Renaissance Dresser of Buffet in Oak and Walnut
Located in Casteren, NL
This rare and rich decorated Renaissance dresser was made during the Dutch Golden age in the southern part of the Netherlands currently Belgium. It was made around 1670 and most likely in Antwerp. The dresser was made in the finest quality watered European oak and decorated geometric-shaped walnut veneer panels. The cabinet has two wide doors and two drawers above. The drawers are flanked by carved lion heads with brass rings. The right drawer is equipped with an authentic working lock and key. The doors are decorated with geometrical star-like walnut inlaid raised panels. The doors are flanked by large twisted Solomonic columns decorated with brass nails.
The righthand door features its authentic lock and key with a brass ajour cut keyplate.
The dresser has a wax finish with a great patina built up over 350 years. This piece of furniture was made by highly skilled craftsmen by the use of the best materials available. It is among the best furniture that was produced during the golden age and even now its craftsmanship is unprecedented.
The dresser is highly original and in perfect shape for a piece of furniture over 350 years old. It was gently cleaned in our atelier and a new protective wax coat was applied.
The Dutch golden age the 17th century was an important century for the Netherlands. The region separated from the Spanish Empire and formed its republic. Dutch merchants...

Title: 17th Century Map of Hispaniola and Puerto Rico by Mallet (1683)
This exquisite 17th-century map by Mallet, titled "I. d'Hispaniola et P.to Rico," showcases the islands of Hispaniola and Puerto Rico with remarkable detail. Published in Paris in 1683 as part of Mallet's monumental "Description de l'Univers," this map is a prime example of historical cartography from the era.
Map Features:
- Detailed depiction of Hispaniola and Puerto Rico
- Nearby islands: Inagua islands, Mayaguana, Île-à-Vache, Saona, and Mona
- Three illustrated naval battles surrounding the islands
- Hand-colored illustrations typical of the period
- Published in Paris, 1683, as part of the "Description de l'Univers"
- Engraved with artistic and geographic precision
Collectors and enthusiasts of antique maps will appreciate the historical significance and artistic detail of this rare print. Although small, the map is perfect for framing and this map serves as a captivating piece of history, reflecting the maritime exploration and territorial knowledge of the late 17th century.
The maker of the map is Allain Manesson Mallet, a notable 17th-century cartographer, military engineer, and author. Born in Paris in 1630, Mallet served in the French army and worked as a military engineer under Louis XIV. He later became a professor of mathematics and military architecture.
Mallet is best known for his monumental work, "Description de l'Univers," published in Paris in 1683. This extensive publication is considered one of the greatest works of its kind in the 17th century, providing detailed descriptions and maps of various parts of the world. Mallet's maps are renowned for their artistic quality, intricate details, and the inclusion of illustrative elements such as ships, sea creatures, and topographical features.

Old Map of Glamorganshire by Lewis 1844 – Swansea Cardiff Merthyr Tydfil Neath
Located in Langweer, NL
Title: Old Map of Glamorganshire by Samuel Lewis 1844 – Swansea Cardiff Merthyr Tydfil Neath
Description: This detailed map of Glamorganshire was published in 1844 for Samuel Lewis’ Topographical Dictionary of Wales. It showcases major towns such as Swansea, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath, and Bridgend. The map features original hand coloring that outlines the county borders and includes shaded topographical elements to show the landscape. A decorative compass rose and a reference to the seven unions add both style and historical context.
Condition:
The map is in good antique condition with minor age toning and clean margins. The engraving remains sharp and the original colors are clear and unfaded. No major damage or repairs are visible.
Framing suggestions:
Use a soft cream or ivory acid-free mat to match the natural tone of the paper. Choose a dark wood, antique gold, or black frame with a soft patina to enhance the historical feel. UV-protective glass is recommended to preserve the colors. This map is ideal for a home office, study, or as a thoughtful gift for those with Welsh heritage.
