He started as a student at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the influence of his teachers, Daniel Garber and Hugh Breckenridge, is beautifully articulated in this dream-like, impressionist landscape, painted with a delicate aura of haze in subtle pastel tones of greens, purple, and blues. Carving decorative frames for his own paintings in 1920, Esherick was guided to the art of woodcut printing and sculpture.
