Homage to Matisse
By Inez Storer
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork by noted American artist Inez Storer, b. 1933 is titled Homage to Matisse. The piece is composed of mixed media (oil paint, board, latex) with collage on board. The artwork measures 24 x 24 inches (25 x 25 inches, framed.) It is floating in a simple painted wood frame. It is hand signed in the lower right corner of the frame by the artist. The piece is in very good condition. I am estimating this work was created some time in the 1990s based on the subject and style, but that is only an educated guess. About the artist: From Inverness, California, north of San Francisco and working from a studio in Point Reyes, Inez Storer creates mixed-media narrative paintings, collages and assemblages in naive-sophisticated style, which she describes as Magic Realism: "I am a visual raconteur. I use paint to tell stories." Most of these stories are explorations of the human condition with characters who seem allegorically to be walking tightropes. She gets many ideas from her studio collection of old...

Planete
Located in San Francisco, CA
Artist: Paul Van Hoeydonck – Belgian (1925 - ) Title: Planete Year: 1961 Medium: Mixed media Size: 48 x 48 inches. Signature: Signed, dated, titled on the reverse Condition: Good This mid century work by Paul Van Hoeydonck is a direct and strong composition, like so many of Van Hoeydonck’s Planete works. It measures 48” x 48” and is a mixed media composition. It is a composition on masonite or a similar material. There is flat black and gloss black paint. Perhaps the gloss is lacquer. The surface is highly textured. The black areas have small finish nails, lying flat, attached to the surface. The other areas have sand or some other particulate in the paint. It is signed, titled and dated on the reverse. The date looks like “1961” but it could be “1969.” Please see pictures. Stylistically, this work looks very much like his work from 1961-1962. The piece is in good condition. There is a faint scratch in the upper left and some very small chips on the edges. Please see pictures. There also might be very, very light surface dirt throughout. Please refer to the artist's website as well as Whitford Gallery for extensive biographies of the artist. Two Ryders 0n an Antelope
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork "Two Ryders on an Antelope" c.2000, is an original acrylic paint mixed media on paper by noted Swiss artist Francois Burland b.1958. The subject size (Sheet size) is 19.25 x 25.25 inches, framed size is 30.25 x 26.25 inches. Custom framed in a black frame, with white matting. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: François Burland (1958) was born in Lausanne (Switzerland). He began drawing in self-taught fashion at the end of his adolescence. He undertook a first trip to Egypt's Sinai Peninsula at the age of twenty. A few years later, he encountered the Tuaregs in the Sahara Desert. Enthused by their nomadic lifestyle, he began returning to the region regularly over some thirty years. During his long stays with the Tuaregs, he shared their daily life, including their dromedaries and witchcraft, but also their 4x4s, mobiles and kalachnikovs. This creator has produced an abundant and varied oeuvre. Depending on each series and on his inspiration of the day, he avails himself of a number of techniques and materials. For his drawings, he prefers to use wrapping paper as a support: he applies pastels, colored pencil and white chalk to very large surfaces. His creations bring to mind shamanic art...

Two Men with an Antelope
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork "Two Men with an Antelope" c.2000, is an original acrylic paint mixed media on paper by noted Swiss artist Francois Burland b.1958.
