This work pairs with another recorded 5 x 7 inch example painted in 1916 by Pilot that was painted near the Hotel Dieu in Quebec City - the work was likely painted in February of that year just before Pilot enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force to serve on the front lines in France.

Cherry Blossom Dream by Sophia Chalklen is an original painting. One day I was sat looking up at a cherry blossom tree and thought how beautiful it looked from that angle. I took a photo and had to paint it. The beautiful light breaking through made it even more beautiful. I have used various metallic pink leaf as well as 24ct gold leaf on the trunk to create that extra sparkle and magic as the light hits the painting. Due to the nature of the metallic leaf it looks different in different light.
Contemporary artist Sophia Chalklen sold online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Sophia has always had a strong passion for Art ever since she was a child. Sophia studied at Winchester school of Art where she completed a BA specialising in Textile design. He taught painting for thirty years as head of a large art faculty in an Oldham comprehensive school, before taking early retirement in 1996 to concentrate on producing his own work.
Capper produces on-the-spot sketches which are then taken into his studio where he re-works them into a painting. Both his landscapes and his still-life paintings reflect the influences of the cubists and the fauves. The work of Picasso, Braque and Matisse are amongst his major influences.
