Modernist Detroit Table Sculpture Wood Collage Box Assemblage Americordo Copper
Located in Surfside, FL
Copper and wood box. "Americordo #7" is composed of copper tiles inlaid to the bottom half of the box and on the top rests a patinated etched copper or bronze circle. The box when closed measures to be 17" Sq. x 3.5" H. David Barr (1939-2015) is an American sculptor and painter from Detroit, MI. Known for constructivist sculpture, architecture and surrealist, assemblage box sculpture collage works. Born in 1939, Barr is an internationally known artists and has created many installations in natural settings. Vault took over a year to complete. His sculptures represent mathematics, geography and structurist nature, and otherwise known as "geo-structures." This one is kinetic and can be moved around. Barr is a graduate of Wayne State University and recipient of the WSU Distinguished Alumni Award. Influenced by sculptor Charles Biederman. In 1995 he founded the Michigan Legacy Art Park, and has pieces at the Chrysler World Headquarters, Flint's Bishop Airport, the Detroit Zoo, the State of Michigan Historical Museum and the Meadowbrook Festival Grounds Barr earned a master’s of fine arts degree from Wayne State University and was an associate professor of sculpture at Macomb Community College in Warren for 37 years. He worked on perhaps the largest sculpture in the world, the Four Corners Project, with installations at Greenland, Africa, Irian Jaya (New Guinea) and Easter Island. His sculptures are located all over the state of Michigan, but perhaps his most recognizable is Transcending, a blend of bronze, steel and granite that acknowledges the contributions of Detroit’s laborers and skilled tradespeople. David Barr is the founder of Michigan Legacy Art Park. David’s career as an artist, instructor, author and global thinker has crossed borders around the world, bringing people and ideas together. Over fifty years as a sculptor, David created a body of work that includes hundreds of wall-hanging structurist reliefs, sculptures for public spaces (such as Transcending in Hart Plaza, Detroit done with Sergio De Giusti), works for private collections, massive global projects (such as The Four Corners Project) and Michigan Legacy Art Park. David’s studio was in Detroit for fifteen years until he realized he needed nature as a source of inspiration. In 1977 he bought 4 acres of land in rural Oakland County (now Novi) and in 1979 built his home, a contemporary structure that has become the centerpiece of his own art park. His work is included in the collection of outdoor sculptures at The Dennos Museum Center along with Clement Meadmore, Hanna Stiebel...

Untitled (Cuffed 1) Green Sculpture of Female Hand, Contemporary Art
Located in New York, NY
A 2023 recipient of the Vermont Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, Leslie Fry is represented in this show with fantastical sculptures of female hands, titled the “Cuffed” series. Tensely poised and mannered gestures, inspired by Parmigianino and Caravaggio, cascade into blooms and barnacles, creating a mesmerizing visual dissonance. This elision of romance and rigidity both draws attention to the limitations of the female form and liberates it from the constraints of reality. Leslie Fry’s works have been exhibited internationally at such venues as Kunsthaus in Hamburg, Zwitscher Machine Gallery in Berlin, Hangaram Art Museum in Seoul, Windspiel Galerie in Vienna, Couvent des Cordeliers in Paris, Artists Space and Wave Hill in New York, deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum near Boston, and Centre des Arts Visuels in Montreal. Her public sculptures have been commissioned in New York, South Korea, Montreal, Florida, Wisconsin, and Vermont; public collections include Tufts University, Songchu International Sculpture Park, Freehand New York, Kohler Arts Center, Tampa Museum of Art, Fleming Museum of Art, Musée d’art de Joliette, and St. Petersburg, Florida’s Museum of Fine Arts. Fry’s M.F.A. is from Bard College, and her B.A. is from the University of Vermont, with a Foundation year at the Central School of Art in London. She currently lives and works in Winooski, VT. Artist Statement: #1 My hands reach, touch, and shape. Hands let go and receive; they try to hold things and to hold things together. Some of my images of hands are derived from Mannerist paintings by Parmigianino and Caravaggio, and are ink-washed onto vintage tablecloths...

Book Sculpture Paper Mache Enamel Painting Jean Lowe Please Don t Eat Daisy
By Jean Lowe
Located in Surfside, FL
Jean Lowe (American, b. 1960) Book-form sculpture, 2004 "Please Don't Eat Daisy", Enamel painted papier-mache Hand signed and dated verso Dimensions 10.5"h x 12.75"w x 4"d This title is well suited for vegetarians, vegans and plant based diets! Jean Lowe is a California-based painter and sculptor. She creates installations and sculptural works of enamel-painted papier-mâché. Lowe earned a B.A. from UC Berkeley in 1983. She earned her MFA from UC San Diego in 1988. She was a lecturer at UC San Diego from 1992 to 2008. Lowe's installations are handmade, labor intensive and visually playful installations, with papier-mâché furnishings and objects juxtaposed to site specific wall painting. Lowe says of her installations, "Intellectually I am driven by an interest in challenging a status quo anthropocentric world view and formally interested in marrying that content to a 'domestic' decorative esthetic." Many of Lowe's installations have quoted 18th and 19th century French decoration, rife with romanticized images of animals and nature and imbued with a sense of class and privilege. Into this fabric she substitutes or integrate corresponding contemporary attitudes--both about our treatment of the land and its other inhabitants and our attitudes regarding decoration: the wrestling match between high and low art. Wry humor. Lowe creates sculptural representations of everyday objects using papier-mâché and enamel paint. She is known for her papier-mâché books and has created a large collection of them with evocative and amusing titles. Her work Books and Ideas in an Age of Anxiety comprises a collection of them in display cases and is situated in Byers Hall at UCSF as part of the J. Michael Bishop Art Collection at Mission Bay. Among the book titles are: Accelerated Zen Buddhism: How to Win at the Hereafter. Anxiety: The Unexploited Weight Loss Tool. Artistic Mammography. The Eco-Tourist's Guide to Las Vegas. A Guide to Box Wines. Hot Buttered Cop Porn. How to Dominate Women. Militant Feminist Veganism for All. The Triumph of Minimalism and other such titles. Exhibitions Lowe has exhibited in both New York and Los Angeles. She participated in the 1994 exhibition Bad Girls West. Curated by Marcia Tucker, Bad Girls was a humorous and transgressive look at gender and feminist issues. It featured work from artist across many media, including photo, painting, sculpture, performance, film, comics, advertisements, writings and more. TWO CHAIRS Surrealist Bronze Sculpture Unique 1964 DANISH ARTIST Sven Dalsgaard
By Sven Dalsgaard
Located in Rancho Santa Fe, CA
This unique, small bronze sculpture by Sven Dalsgaard, dated 1964, transforms an ordinary object into something psychologically charged and quietly ambiguous. Standing just 11.25 inches tall, the form recalls a chair lifted into an improbable vertical stance. Its narrow seat and elongated legs deny any practical use. What Dalsgaard presents is not furniture but the idea of a chair, reduced to structure and presence rather than function. The bronze surface is worked rather than refined, with visible traces of the artist’s hand that catch the light unevenly. This rough handling introduces a sense of vitality into an otherwise rigid form. The exaggerated proportions give the sculpture a totem-like quality, almost figurative in character, as if the chair itself has assumed an upright posture. As the viewer moves around it, the open spaces within the structure become as important as the solid bronze, creating a shifting balance between mass and void. There is a clear surrealist element in this transformation. The chair remains immediately recognizable, yet it no longer belongs to the world of ordinary experience. By displacing scale and function, Dalsgaard creates a subtle tension between familiarity and estrangement. The sculpture suggests presence without an occupant and purpose without use, encouraging psychological rather than literal interpretation. This aligns with a restrained, Northern strain of Surrealism, one shaped by austerity and understatement rather than spectacle. Signed and dated on the base, the sculpture dates from a period when Dalsgaard increasingly explored the symbolic potential of everyday forms. Modest in scale but rich in implication, it demonstrates how a common object can be quietly reimagined as a vessel for reflection, ambiguity, and poetic abstraction. A unique bronze sculpture. Born in Vorup near Randers, Sven Dalsgaard was self-taught as a painter. His earliest paintings are Naturalistic but around 1934 he was inspired by Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee to paint more Abstract works. He debuted at the Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling in 1943. Inspired by Marcel Duchamp, he embarked on Surrealism in the 1940s but moved into a simpler, more stylized approach in the 1950s, producing tall thin sculptures...

Paper Plate with Dice and Chip
By Richard Shaw
Located in Burlingame, CA
In the world of ceramics, Richard Shaw is a professor and the master of trompe l’oeil (French for “fool the eye”) sculpture, a style often associated with paintings intended to give a convincing illusion of reality. Shaw's work replicates everyday objects (such as tin cans, playing cards, and cutlery) in porcelain. He then glazes these components and groups them in unexpected and even jarring combinations. While interested in how objects can reflect a person’s identity, Shaw also poses questions regarding the relationship between appearance and authenticity. Paper Plate...
