CARTIER Paris 1970 Select Trinity Minaudiere Purse In Mughal Silk
18Kt Gold
By Cartier
Located in Miami, FL
A purse minaudiere designed by Cartier Paris.
This is an exceptional, beautiful and extremely rare purse minaudiere created in Paris France by the luxury house of Cartier, back in the 1970. This incredible piece is from the trinity collection, specially crafted for the exclusive Cartier department "S" of "Select de Cartier". Made-up with very fine Mughal silk and eight trinity-motifs accents made in three tones of 18 karats gold.
Country: Paris, France.
Period: 1970.
Style: Mughal, Trinity, Art-Deco.
Measurements: 130 mm by 108 mm by 39 mm (5.10 x 4.25 x 1.5 Inches).
Length: The triple silk cord can be adjusted from 17 inches to 26 inches.
Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark cartouche, French marks and signed as follows, "CARTIER PARIS MADE IN FRANCE".
Cartier S History
On the 19th of June, 1920, the House of Cartier in Paris created a collection of accessories so special they resembled jewels in their precious materials and expert craftsmanship. This collection was known as "Cartier S for Select", and it was the creation of the brilliant Mme. Jeanne Toussaint. It was her consummate style and taste that led to the design of so many Art Deco objects for which Cartier is famous. Even today, auction houses report record prices whenever a Toussaint creation appears. For two decades, Mme. Toussaint presided over "Department S". With the advent of World War II, the doors of "Department S" closed at least for thirty years. In the 1970 Cartier has recreated again the "Department S" and brought it to New York city. The same rigorous standards of beauty and workmanship, the same precious materials have gone into today's "Department S" Collection. This piece is from a collection of very special evening bags; Cartier S collection is for Select. See the image.
Note: Considering that this piece is from the 1970s with almost 50 years of having been manufactured, it was never used. It is an incredible luxury item with its original cased box in perfect condition.
Collateral: This Cartier Minaudiere purse...

Early Hiroshi Yamano Art Glass Sculpture or Paperweight, 1988
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Early Art Glass sculpture by Hiroshi Yamano features a grouping of raising controlled air bubbles in the center of a clear glass disc object. The bubbles are partially enveloped by pale green, pink, and blue colored glass layers that are flowing around and through the central structure. The underside is polished flat, adding clarity to the sculpture and emphasizing the use of negative space in the composition.
The sculpture is signed and dated by the artist in etching on the underside; it can be used as a paperweight, if desired. It is contemporary to Yamano's famous "From East to West" series, that he started in the late 1980s, while he was a graduate student at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The sculpture was created in 1988; it is evocative of flowing water and underwater views. While we don't think that the sculpture is a part of the series, it is an important early work and a reflection on his studies.
Hiroshi Yamano (b. 1956) is recognized as one of Japan's foremost and innovative glass artists. He attended the California College of Arts and Crafts, the Tokyo Art Institute, and Penland School of Crafts (where he served as an assistant), before receiving his Masters in Fine Arts degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, in 1989. Yamano began working with glass after seeing an exhibition of Scandinavian glass in Kyoto. At California College of Arts and Crafts he studied under Marvin Lipofsky, learning the creative aspects of glass. In 1986 he worked as an instructor at Leon Applebaum...

Tiffany Studios New York 7-Piece "Pond Lily" Desk Set
By Louis Comfort Tiffany, Tiffany Studios
Located in New York, NY
Tiffany Studios’ Pond Lily Desk Set is a rare model, with only three extant sets known. The set is decorated with a dazzling array of lily pads, lily buds, dragonflies, and moths. The dragonfly and moth was a leitmotif of the Art Nouveau, but Louis Tiffany encountered the creatures and explored their form and significance throughout his childhood and artistic life, beginning as a youngster who sketched au plein air in the woods and wetlands surrounding his father’s summer house. At his Laurelton Hall estate, an artwork of nature coaxed into form over decades, Tiffany observed these insects in the teeming saltwater marshes and wetlands of Oyster Bay. The crown jewel of his Laurelton Hall garden was a water lily pond filled with varieties of colored water lilies, a novelty that debuted at the 1900 Exposition Universelle. Tiffany proceeded to make a series of designs based on the pond lily which he displayed to much acclaim in the 1902 Turin Prima Esposizione Internazionale d'Arte Decorativa Moderna.

Vitrix Hot Glass Studio Op Art Paperweight, New York Art Glass
By Thomas Kelly
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Rare Op Art paperweight was hand blown in elongated ovoid shape. The colored rounded central gather has evenly distributed swirls of blue glass with randomly added yellow pigment placed in abstract, graphic pattern, with the whole structure enclosed in clear glass in sommerso technique. Subtle reflections of the central colored core in clear glass part of the paperweight add complexity and visual interest to otherwise minimal piece.
The paperweight is signed and dated by the artist in etching on the bottom.
Thomas Kelly is an established glass artist working in Vitrix Hot Glass studio in Corning, New York. He started in the glass studios of Alex Brand and Thomas Buechner where he had the opportunity to learn from two distinctly different artists, each having their own unique talents; Kelly worked for 10 years with Thomas Buechner III at Vitrix Hot Glass Studio, developing his glass working skills and aesthetic sensitivity. At Vitrix, visiting artists such as Lino Tagliapietra and Fritz Dreisbach...
