Fabulous Orivit signed metal and cut glass Tazza in exceptional condition. The base is a stunningly Art Nouveau sinuous gold coloured metal, with a flower head knop to hold on the glass top. It is signed Orivit 2259 on the base dating it to around 1900. The top is clear colourless glass with a wavy edge and cut with branches and leaves.

The company was founded in 1894, as "Rheinische Broncegiesserei für Kleinplastiken " in Köln-Ehrenfeld by Wilhelm Ferdinand Hubert Schmitz (b.1863 - d.1939).
From 1896 they started making luxury items in a new alloy,"Orivit Metal", consisting of 89.85% pewter 7.9 % antimony 1.9 % copper and 0.12 % silver.
In 1900 the factory changed its name to "Orivit A.G. fur Kunsthandwerkliche Metalwarenfabrikation" and in 1901/02 a new factory was built in Cöln- Braunfels,
complete with a revolutionary new Huber Presverfahren hydraulic press, capable of producing 3650 kiloponds per square centimetre.
Finding itself in financial difficulties, Orovit A.G was purchased in 1905 by Württembergische MetallwarenFabrik.
In 1906 Orivit A.G. acquired Orion and 60 of their designs were carried over into the Orivit range. W/MF marks were used from 1907,

Exceptionally rare sea green gilded Holmegaard figural decanter and stopper designed in 1926 by Jacob Bang -The body of the decanter is his torso and legs -his arms are the twin handles and his head is the stopper-with the pourer formed into his collar. The similar female version of this decanter is documented in McConnels' Decanter book and an example resides in the Holmegaard Museum.
The Holmegaard Glass factory was built in 1825, founded by Countess Henriette Danneskiold-Samsøe. They made glass bottles at first, and then branched out into tableware in the 1830's. A rare Victorian Harrach Gilded Ivory coloured glass Jug in the classic shape of a claret jug later this was more-commonly made in porcelain (in factories like Royal Worcester) this is made in glass and has the shape and pattern codes to it's base corresponding to Hararch (see last but one picture) it is decorated in gilding with a leaf and branch pattern to the body and a fluted gilded handle -a very rare piece of glass
Harrach has been the backbone of Bohemian, and possibly European, glass for the last 300 years. It proudly celebrates its tri-centenary in 2012. Before Ludwig Moser was allowed to have his own Glassworks he, like almost everyone else in the region, bought his blanks from Harrach. In fact we will probably never know how much glass, supposedly made my other great glass makers of Europe, were in fact made and finished in the Harrach Glassworks. We do know that vast ranges of Legras was made by Harrach, probably under licence and possibly the majority of the glass we think of as Fratelli Tosso...

Bohemian Art Nouveau Harrach Purple to Clear Wheel cut shaped Glass Vase, 1900

A vibrant Art Nouveau purple to clear intaglio cut Harrach vase with rare shaped 'cut-out' top outlining the higher buds. Depicting Flowering Lilies highlighted with gilding. This style of intaglio cut vase (with cut-out top) was taken by Harrach to the 1900 Paris exhibition. Very unusually this vase has stylised geometric cuts radiating from the base.
