Large Romanian Knotted Carpet, Attributed to Tuduc
By Theodor Tuduc 1
Located in London, GB
This beautiful, vibrant carpet has been attributed to the important Romanian carpet-maker, Theodor Tuduc (1888-1893). Tuduc ran a prestigious workshop in the 19th century which specialised in the restoration and replication of antique rugs. This item, for instance, is one of a small group of carpets which were knotted after early Caucasian ‘dragon’ rugs. Tuduc's copies of antique rugs were so beautiful and accurate that they have become almost as collectable as the originals. The carpet field is knotted with beautiful stylised depictions of animals, birds and dragons, as well as fruit trees, flowers, and foliage. These designs have been rendered in red, orange, light blue, turquoise, navy, green, mustard yellow, and off-white. This field is set within a border, knotted with similarly colored foliate motifs against an off-white background. Literature: For early Caucasian dragon carpets...

By cc-tapis, Charlotte Perriand
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Cc-tapis and Cassina combine artisanal expertise with contemporary design for two hand-knotted rugs conceived by pioneering architect Charlotte Perriand during her time in Japan: Vérité and Graffiti. Never serially produced, Cassina presents the two rugs produced by cc-tapis and developed with local weaving techniques in close collaboration with Pernette Perriand-Barsac. Vérité features the Japanese ideogram for "Truth", or the Mandarin character for "Free", imprinted into the pile of the vibrant red rug. The pattern featured on the Graffiti rug comes from a photo of a pair of obscure marine animals sketched...

cc-tapis Esquisses Collection Tapis Couloir Tenture by Faye Toogood
By cc-tapis, Faye Toogood
Located in Brooklyn, NY
On the occasion of Milan Design Week, 17 – 23 April 2023, Maison Matisse invited the British designer Faye Toogood to interpret a Chinese black ink on white paper from the book Dessins: Thèmes et Variations (1943) by Henri Matisse. The result of the collaboration with Faye Toogood is a collection of furniture for the living room or bedroom that reveals a least well-known universe of the master, and which Maison Matisse wants to bring out, far removed from the colourful work we are used to seeing. His black and white drawings. The Esquisses collection marks a new step for Maison Matisse with its first objects in a monochrome palette of black, white, and natural beiges. The pared-down colours of a drawing, they foreground the essentials of patterns, and highlight the fluidity and liberty of intuitive gestures that Henri Matisse transmitted even with simple ink on paper. Toogood had previously dedicated her studio’s Assemblage 5...
