Founded by Denis Milovanov, SÓHA design studio conceives and produces furniture design and decorative objects in solid oak in an authentic style. Inspiration to create all these items comes from the Russian North aesthetics with its severe nature, log huts black from time and climate and scant patterns.
Wood is masterfully hand processed with chainsaw or chisel, whereby producing beautiful surface patterns. The wood is soaked in boiling baths of linseed oil, creating this special patina and making each creation a very unique piece. Reacting with tanning substances under high temperature, oil gives the objects expressive and natural colours, from light brown to charcoal-black.

An incredibly fine one-piece corner cupboard formerly acquired at Sotheby's in 2013 for $ 15,000. The original and beautifully worn surface is incredibly lively with a rich texture in the symmetrical brush strokes with the natural rubbing through the paint from over two-hundred years of gentle handling. It is crafted in one piece from pine primary woods and poplar secondary woods and features a nine-light glazed upper door with beautifully molded astragals that opens with a replaced brass knob to reveal an interior divided with two fixed shelves. The lower portion of the cabinet is missing its knob and opens to reveal the single shelf that evenly divides out the space. And most attractive is the size, which is delightfully diminutive and allows it to be a part of any space without overwhelming the interior. An untouched treasure.

The Sand Senses cupboard features materials made with sand and surface that stimulate senses when touched. Sand seems to have no limit. Burnt sand makes the Murano glass transparent. Concrete incorporates more than one type of sand - one comes from the river and the other one has been transformed through a chemical process. Wood is sandblasted and treated with oil-wax to obtain the smoothest surface possible. Geometric shapes can be found in the concrete legs, in the cupboard doors, as well as on the top enriched with openings in colored Murano glass. By first making hundreds of sketches, seven final objects have just “appeared” With these diverse references such as wheel, cart, high clock, bird cage, niche, farm, bourgeois, Primitive, complicated, rich, poor, they almost transform into seven curiosities. Each curiosity becomes much more than just an object; it creates it’s own imaginary and personal world; very autonomous. Each object is an assembly of colours, forms and materials such as solid wood, brass, copper, ceramics, textiles, mirror, steel. It represents the joy and importance of “making things” by hand without computers and really “designing by making”.
The pieces show Kiki’s big love for materials, experimentation, tactility, research, sketches, context, settings, proportions, curiosities and every-day beauty.
