Zeki Muren Vintage Turkish Sivas Rug
By Zeki Müren
Located in Dallas, TX
51925 Distressed Vintage Turkish Sivas Rug, 03'07 x 06'04. Named in honor of the celebrated Turkish vocalist, Zeki Müren, Zeki Muren Turkish Sivas rugs hail from the Sivas region of Turkey. These rugs are revered for their exquisite craftsmanship, boasting intricate designs and vibrant color schemes often adorned with geometric patterns, floral motifs, and detailed borders. Crafted from locally-sourced wool and dyed with natural pigments, they stand as a tribute to the rich cultural heritage and artistic legacy of the region. Zeki Müren's association with luxury and sophistication has heightened the desirability of these rugs, making them highly coveted for their aesthetic allure, enduring quality, and cultural significance within the realms of interior design and carpet collection. Infusing the essence of French Provincial charm, this hand-knotted wool distressed vintage Turkish Sivas rug epitomizes the allure of French Country Cottage style. Adorned with a timeless floral motif and imbued with traditional sensibility, the rug boasts a lovingly timeworn patina that adds to its rustic elegance. Across the weathered field, large cabbage rose motifs dance upon an abrashed striped checkerboard backdrop, creating a picturesque scene reminiscent of idyllic countryside landscapes. Drawing inspiration from European designs, such as those found in the Savonnerie rug workshops of France, this vintage Turkish rug pays homage to the intricate craftsmanship and naturalistic beauty of French floral motifs. The painterly appearance of the rose bouquets, with their well-defined petals and leaves, evokes a sense of timeless romance and sophistication. Meanwhile, the alternating vertically and horizontally striped squares within the field impart a striking optical effect, akin to antique parquet...

Spectral Vision
By Zao Wou-Ki
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork titled "Spectral Vision" 1970, is an original color lithograph by renown Chinese/American artist Zao Woo Ki, 1921-2013. It is hand signed and inscribed H.C. (Hors Commerce) in pencil by the artist. The image size is 17.25 x 24.5 inches, framed size is 32.65 x 39 inches. Custom framed in a wooden silver frame, with silver color spacer and fabric matting. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: Zao Woo Ki was born in Beijing with family roots in Dantu, Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province. In his childhood he was brought back to his hometown Dantu where he studied calligraphy. From 1935 to 1941, he studied painting at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, where he was taught by Lin Fengmian, Fang Ganmin and Wu Dayu. In 1948, he went with his wife Lan-lan, a composer, to Paris to live on the same block in Montparnasse where the classes of Émile Othon Friesz took place. His earliest exhibitions in France were met with praise from Joan Miró and Picasso. In 1957, Zao decided to visit the United States where his younger brother Chao Wu-Wai was living in Montclair, New Jersey, close to the art scene of New York City. He wanted to learn more about "pop art". While in the US, he painted seven canvases at his brother's house. There are relatively few items dating from that year (1957). Years later, the largest canvas was given by his brother, Chao Wu-Wai, to the Detroit Institute of Arts. He left the U.S. after a six-week stay, traveling to Tokyo and then to Hong Kong, where he met his second wife Chan May-Kan Zao's works, influenced by Paul Klee, are orientated to abstraction. He names them with the date in which he finishes them, and in them, masses of colours appear to materialise a creating world, like a Big Bang, where light structures the canvas. He worked formats in triptychs and diptychs. While his work was stylistically similar to the Abstract Expressionists whom he met while travelling in New York, he was influenced by Impressionism. Zao Wou-Ki stated that he had been influenced by the works of Matisse, Picasso and Cézanne.[ His meetings with Henri Michaux pushed him to review his Indian ink techniques, always based in Chinese traditional drawings. Zao was a member of the Académie des beaux-arts, and was considered to have been one of the most successful Chinese painters during his lifetime. In 1982, he was invited to paint for the Fragrant Hills Hotel in Beijing, designed by I. M. Pei. In 1983, he returned to his alma mater, the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou to give lectures. Former French President Jacques Chirac was offered a painting by Zao Wou-Ki by his ministers during their last meeting. His auction record of HKD 510 million was set at Sotheby's, Hong Kong, on 1 September 2018. Zao's work 'Juin-Octobre 1985' is now the most expensive painting ever to go under the hammer at auction in Hong Kong. By the end of his life Zao had stopped producing new paintings due to health problems. He died on 9 April 2013 at his home in Switzerland. Throughout the 20th century their carpets were either woven with French Savonnerie patterns or, as in this case, with designs taken from the Spanish Renaissance weaving tradition. These carpets are known in the trade with the term of 'Cuenca,' which is the city in southern Spain where they were originally woven in the 15th-17th centuries. Here the pattern is distinguished by an infinite repeat of floral wreaths as seen on Spanish Alcaraz carpets...

Decorating with Carpets A Fine Foundation Book by Heather MacIsaac
Located in New York, NY
Decorating with Carpets A Fine Foundation By: Ashley Stark Kenner and Chad Stark with Heather MacIsaac In decoration, a carpet’s influence is never outsized. In fact, more than any other element of a room, and as the largest and most expensive component of any design scheme, the effect a carpet has on a space is every bit as great as its size. Decorators have long recognized the importance of a fine carpet, its impact on the colors and textures of a space, its contribution to creating an atmosphere, its feel of luxury, and, with the best examples, its lasting value. Despite their essential role as the bedrock of any design scheme, beautiful carpets have lived in the shadows of recognition. Decorating with Carpets: A Fine Foundation aims to change that oversight, tapping the extensive and remarkable archive of Stark Carpet for interior design’s greatest examples. Over the course of its 75 years, Stark Carpet, the premier purveyor of carpets to the trade in the country, has worked with the each era’s most notable designers, from Billy Baldwin and Dorothy Draper to Sister Parish and Albert Hadley to Mark Hampton and Mario Buatta to contemporary leading lights such as Diamond Baratta, Victoria Hagan, Katie Ridder, and Stephen Gambrel...
