Monumental Custom Granite and Steel Dining Table by Anthony Lumsden, 1970s
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A jaw dropping monumental granite slab and steel dining table by famed Los Angeles architect Anthony Lumsden - custom designed and crafted for his Los Angeles home in the 1970s. Sleek, modern yet a subtle statement piece, partially due to its large size for such heavy materials, but also for its vibrant deep granite veining which reflects light in a shimmering fashion.
*Note, we have this very discounted prior to our upcoming move. Once we ship this table to our new location we will be removing the sale price so take advantage of the incredible deal while it lasts!
The thick and large granite slab is heavy with no-doubt, the large chromed steel frame is also very heavy in its own regard - a sign of the quality materials he used. To re-create this staggering piece today would be costly and painfully difficult. Acquiring this dining table, which would also make an incredible conference table as well, is a great opportunity for a collector or architecture aficionado to own something truly unique and special - and something that will stand the test of time.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Anthony Lumsden was a famed American architect most noted for his sculptural futuristic designs with numerous projects in Southern California such as the Tillman Water Reclamation Plant, often seen in Hollywood films and television shows such as Star Trek Next Generation...

A287 - Abstract Art Painting on Canvas Original Schmidli Artwork
By Marco Schmidli
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Swiss-born artist Marco Schmidli creates large-scale minimalist paintings reminiscent of color field studies with a contemporary edge. Placing emphasis on process, he lets the mediums naturally manifest within his artwork. “An important aspect of my artwork is the removal of my own artistic hand. Instead of controlling and demanding the paint move and act a certain way, I let the paint naturally manifest and express its pure form/ true colors/ most natural movement.” Schmidli's work is known for its sensitive surfaces and subtle textures. He has developed specialized techniques for applying and layering color, giving depth to his large-scale paintings.
This 25-inch high by 18-inch wide and 2-inch deep original artwork is an abstract composition in acrylic on canvas. This artwork is wired and ready to hang. It does not require framing. It is signed on the back. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping is available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included.
Schmidli studied photography and fine art in Switzerland and Rome. He worked as a photographer and painter in Zurich and then in 1989 he moved to California. Schmidli has been creating large-scale artworks since. He has developed specialized techniques for applying and layering color. His artworks have been featured in the film and entertainment industry, such as fashion photography, celebrity portraits, music videos, films, editorials, and at red carpet events.
Schmidli has set a new standard for large-scale contemporary abstract works in Los Angeles. His original paintings have appeared in highly respected magazine publications, such as Vogue, Flaunt, and Harper’s Bazaar. His work has also been featured in fashion spreads of iconic international brands such as Nike and Balenciaga.

Peter Shire (American, b. 1947)
"Naked Lady,"
Painted metal, wire, and found industrial objects sculpture
Dimensions: overall: 72"h x 30"w x 24"d
Peter Shire (born 1947) is a Los Angeles, California artist. Shire was born in the Echo Park district of Los Angeles, where he currently lives and works. His sculpture, furniture, painting, prints and ceramics have been exhibited in the United States, Italy, France, Japan and Poland; Shire has been associated with the Memphis Group of designers, has worked on the Design Team for the XXIII Olympiad with the American Institute of Architects, and has designed public sculptures in Los Angeles and other California cities. Shire has been honored by awards for his contribution to the cultural life of the City of Los Angeles. He is an influential LA ceramicist along with and influenced by Ken Price and ceramic master Peter Voulkos. Of a similar mod vibe to Charlie Hewitt and Brad Howe. The Memphis Milano Group was an Italian design and architecture group founded in Milan by Ettore Sottsass in 1982 that designed Post modern furniture, fabrics, ceramics, glass, and welded, painted, metal objects from 1981 to 1988. The Memphis group's work often incorporated plastic laminate and was characterized by ephemeral design featuring colorful and abstract decoration as well as asymmetrical shapes, sometimes arbitrarily alluding to exotic or earlier styles. They drew inspiration from such movements as Art Deco and Pop Art, including styles such as the 1950s Kitsch and futuristic themes. Other members included Martine Bedin Michael Graves, Javier Mariscal, Nathalie du Pasquier, Matteo Thun and Marco Zanuso. He was included in the Sullivan Goss show L.A. in S.B. of Postwar and Contemporary California artists including Emerson Woelffer, Ynez Johnston, Peter Krasnow, Edgar Ewing. Their styles ran the gamut from Post Cubist Abstraction to Abstract Surrealism to Abstract Expressionism. In the rich soil of their efforts was grown the next generation of some of L.A.’s art superstars. As well as contemporary artists such as Ed Ruscha, David Hockney, Charles Arnoldi, Betye Saar, Frank Gehry, Kenton Nelson, Peter Shire, Patssi Valdez, and Dave Lefner.

Frank Shepard Fairey was born February 15, 1970 in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. Fairey's adolescence was shaped by the influences of punk-rock and skateboarding.
In his teens, he began creating his own bootlegged clothing and skateboard decals featuring bands and brands he liked. Fairey’s early bootlegs were created because his generally conservative parents would not purchase the clothing he wanted.
In 1986, he stumbled upon the Andre the Giant image for which he has become famous for, in a local newspaper. The image was selected when Fairey demonstrated to a friend how to make a stencil; it was modified slightly to include the meaningless caption “Andre the Giant has a Posse” and made into a sticker. The sticker was reproduced en masse and began to appear around Charleston as it spread through the skateboarding community.
While the sticker had no inherent meaning, the public response varied from disregard to curiosity to out-right fear. Civic groups editorialized and theorized that the Andre image was affiliated with everything from a band to a hate group. Nevertheless, the stickers were considered vandalism and in time, Fairey would face numerous charges for defacing public property. Fairey's record includes 15 arrests as of March 2009, for defacing property as a result of his so called bombing campaigns.
Fairey affixed the stickers on municipal properties nearly everywhere he went, and the Andre sticker was being seen in Boston and New York City, soon others procured the image and were encouraged to spread the campaign worldwide in the form of stickers, stencils and wheat-paste posters.
Following high school, Fairey was accepted to the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where, with an interest in screen printing, he majored in illustration.
In 1992, while still attending RISD, Fairey started Alternate Graphics, a mail order catalog business through which he could merchandise his own t-shirts, skateboards, posters and stickers. He also took small commercial illustration jobs to help supplement his income.
Shortly thereafter, the Andre the Giant Has a Posse logo was shortened simply to Obey Giant.
The Obey, for which Fairey has also become synonymous, is derived from the 1988 John Carpenter film They Live. In the film, aliens who appear as human, rule the governments and economies of the world while the humans are reduced to an unwitting, hypnotized slave-class. Themes from the film continue to appear in Fairey’s work.
Over time, the Andre the Giant face was modified into a more simplified and streamlined appearance, reminiscent of Russian Constructivist/Rodchenko style Soviet propaganda posters of the 20th Century.
In 1994, filmmaker Helen Stickler featured Fairey and his sticker phenomenon in her documentary: Andre the Giant has a Posse.
The following year, Fairey started Subliminal Projects with the late Blaize Blouin, his friend and pro-skateboarder. Subliminal Projects created and released several Obey-Giant themed posters and skateboard decks. Fairey directed a short skateboarding film featuring some of his friends through Subliminal Projects and Alternate Graphics titled A.D.D.(Attention Deficit Disorder).
In 1996, Fairey moved to San Diego, California to create Giant Distribution with partner Andy Howell. Later, with Howell, Phillip De Wolff, Dave Kinsey, he formed First Bureau of Imagery (FBI), a branding, marketing and design firm established to focus on the increasingly lucrative sports market.
FBI was closed in 1999 and Fairey, along with De Wolff and Kinsey created BLK/MRKT, similar to FBI. At this time, Fairey met and began working with Amanda Alaya, whom he would later marry.
BLK/MRKT moved to Los Angeles in 2001. Here, they could expand and were able to incorporate a small gallery. Fairey and Kinsey eventually bought out De Wolff’s share of the partnership and by then had set up offices in the Pellissier Building (home of the historic Wiltern Theater), in the Koreatown section of Downtown Los Angeles.
In December 2001, Fairey and Alaya were married in Charleston, South Carolina, Amanda has occasionally been the model for Fairey's prints (see: Commanda, 2007). Additionally, Amanda Fairey works in the capacity as publicist, agent and representative of her husband.
In 2003, Kinsey and Fairey split. Kinsey retained the BLK/MRKT name and gallery, which he relocated to Culver City, California. Fairey retained the offices and most of the employees to create Studio Number One and the gallery was renamed Subliminal Projects. Studio No. 1 has since gone on to produce numerous memorable album covers, concert and film posters.
In 2004, Fairey created the magazine Swindle with his old friend Roger Gastman. Swindle is a quarterly publication that features fashion, art, music and other pop-culture elements.
During the 2004 presidential election, Fairey teamed up with artists Mear One...

Set of 2 Chairs by Harry Bertoia for Knoll Ready for Upholstery, USA, c. 1960s
By Harry Bertoia
Located in Deland, FL
Introducing a rare and limited set of two "Diamond" chairs designed by the influential Harry Bertoia for Knoll. First designed in 1952 for Knoll, the diamond chair was by far Bertoia's most famous and recognized design and formed part of his 5-piece wire-made body of work for Knoll called the "Bertoia Collection". The Diamond chair is characterized by a fluid, sculptural form made from a welded lattice work of steel. In Bertoia's own words, "If you look at these chairs, they are mainly made of air, like (a) sculpture. Space passes right through them." The chairs were produced with varying degrees of upholstery over their light grid-work, and they were handmade at first because a suitable mass production process could not be found and that's exactly how the upholstery can be re-done for these chairs - by hand. Featuring new automotive-grade, single-stage polyurethane paint, this expansive set is ready for re-upholstery a fabric of your choosing.
Harry Bertoia was an Italian-born welder, sculpture and designer who after moving to the US in 1930, began studying design at Cranbrook Academy of Art where he met and befriended the likes of Ray Eames and Florence Knoll. In 1950 he began working for Knoll creating, among others, the now iconic "Diamond Chair" and the "Bird Chair". His work has been internationally recognized for it's forward-thinking approach and it's literal bending of both metal and rules set for Modern design and his work is on permanent display across the globe in such museums as France's Musée National d'Art Moderne.

Set of 4 Chairs by Harry Bertoia for Knoll Ready for Upholstery, USA, c. 1960s
By Harry Bertoia
Located in Deland, FL
Introducing a rare and limited set of "Diamond" chairs designed by the influential Harry Bertoia for Knoll.

Take on the Sublime
By Francesca Borgo
Located in BARCELONA, ES
Through my work, I invite viewers to find themselves in the ebb and flow of these abstract landscapes. Each piece is a reminder that, just like the clouds shifting across the sky or the waves reshaping the shore, we too are constantly adapting, evolving, and finding new ways to thrive. It is an exploration of how resilience is not a rigid stance, but a fluid process—a journey that requires both the gentleness to bend with change and the energy to face it
head-on.
In today’s world, where the pace of life often feels as unpredictable as the weather, my art speaks to the universal experiences of growth, adaptation, and the quiet strength that lies beneath the surface of every turbulent wave.
Through these pieces, I hope to create a space where viewers can see their own stories—where they can find comfort in nature’s wisdom and inspiration in its endless capacity for renewal.
I deem my works are mainly influenced by modern and contemporary artists, such as Zao Wou-Ki, Zhang Daqian, Julie Mehretu, David Hammons, Wu Chi-Tsung and traditional

SIGNED by Jean Schlumberger
Jean Michel Schlumberger (June 24, 1907 – August 29, 1987) was a French jewelry designer especially well known for his work at Tiffany & Co.
Family and early life
Schlumberger was born in then-German Mulhouse, France to a well-to-do family involved in textile manufacturing. His father was Paul Albert Edouard Schlumberger (1877-1952) and his mother was Elisabeth Schoen (1884-1942). He had four siblings; Daniel Schlumberger (1904-1972), Pascal Alfred (1911-1986), Isabelle Françoise Elisabeth and Jacqueline. He sketched constantly during his youth, but his parents tried to discourage his artistic interest by refusing to allow him to undertake formal training.
Schlumberger began his career creating buttons for Elsa Schiaparelli in the 1930s. Schiaparelli later commissioned him to design costume jewelry for her firm. During World War II, Schlumberger was in the French Army and survived the Battle of Dunkirk. He also served under General Charles de Gaulle in England and the Middle East with the Free French Forces.
After the war, Schlumberger came to New York and began to design clothing for Chez Ninon...

Pickaxe (Spitzhacke) Superimposed on a Drawing of the Site by E.L. Grimm, 1982

Whimsical sculpture of pop culture objects, many of them large and out-of-doors, is the signature work of Swedish-born Claes Oldenburg who became one of America's leading Pop Artists. He was born in Stockholm, Sweden. His father was a diplomat, and during Claes' childhood moved his family from Stockholm to a variety of locations including Chicago where the father was general consul of Sweden and where Oldenburg spent most of his childhood. He attended the Latin School of Chicago, and then Yale University where he studied literature and art history, graduating in 1950, the same year Claes became an American citizen.
Returning to Chicago, he enrolled at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1952 to 1954 and also worked as a reporter at the City News Bureau. He opened his own studio, and in 1953, some of his satirical drawings were included in his first group show at the Club St. Elmo, Chicago. He also painted at the Oxbow School of Painting in Michigan.
In 1956, he moved to New York where he drew and painted while working as a clerk in the art libraries of Cooper-Union Museum for the Arts of Decoration. Selling his first artworks during this time, he earned 25 dollars for five pieces.
Oldenburg became friends with numerous artists including Jim Dine, Red Grooms and Allan Kaprow, who with his "Happenings" was especially influential on Oldenburg's interest in environmental art. Another growing interest was soft sculpture, and in 1957, he created a piece later titled Sausage, a free-hanging woman's stocking stuffed with newspaper.
In 1959, he had his first one-man show, held at the Judson Gallery at Washington Square. He exhibited wood and newspaper sculpture and painted papier-mache objects. Some viewers of the exhibit commented how refreshing Oldenburg's pieces were in contrast to the Abstract Expressionism, a style which much dominated the art world. During this time, he was influenced by the whimsical work of French artist, Bernard Buffet, and he experimented with materials and images of the junk-filled streets of New York.
In 1960, Oldenburg created his first Pop-Art Environments and Happenings in a mock store full of plaster objects. He also did Performances with a cast of colleagues including artists Lucas Samaras, Tom Wesselman, Carolee Schneemann, Oyvind Fahlstrom and Richard Artschwager, dealer Annina Nosei, critic Barbara Rose, and screenwriter Rudy Wurlitzer.
His first wife (1960-1970) Pat Muschinski, who sewed many of his early soft sculptures, was a constant performer in his Happenings. This brash, often humorous, approach to art was at great odds with the prevailing sensibility that, by its nature, art dealt with "profound" expressions or ideas.
In December 1961, he rented a store on Manhattan's Lower East Side to house "The Store," a month-long installation he had first presented at the Martha Jackson Gallery in New York. This installation was stocked with sculptures roughly in the form of consumer goods.
Oldenburg moved to Los Angeles in 1963 "because it was the most opposite thing to New York I could think of". That same year, he conceived AUT OBO DYS, performed in the parking lot of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in December 1963.
In 1965 he turned his attention to drawings and projects for imaginary outdoor monuments. Initially these monuments took the form of small collages such as a crayon image of a fat, fuzzy teddy bear looming over the grassy fields of New York's Central Park (1965) and Lipsticks in Piccadilly Circus, London (1966). Oldenburg realized his first outdoor public monument in 1967; Placid Civic Monument took the form of a Conceptual performance/action behind the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, with a crew of gravediggers digging a 6-by-3-foot rectangular hole in the ground.
Many of Oldenburg's large-scale sculptures of mundane objects elicited public ridicule before being embraced as whimsical, insightful, and fun additions to public outdoor art. From the early 1970s Oldenburg concentrated almost exclusively on public commissions.
Between 1969 and 1977 Oldenburg had been in a relationship with Hannah Wilke, feminist artist, but in 1977 he married Coosje van Bruggen, a Dutch-American writer and art historian who became collaborator with him on his artwork. He had met her in 1970, when she curated an exhibition for him at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. Their first collaboration came when Oldenburg was commissioned to rework Trowel I, a 1971 sculpture of an oversize garden tool, for the grounds of the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, the Netherlands.
Oldenburg has officially signed all the work he has done since 1981 with both his own name and van Bruggen's. In 1988, the two created the iconic Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture for the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota that remains a staple of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden as well as a classic image of the city.
