By Marion Duschletta
Located in Los Angeles, CA

Antique 20thC American Solid Silver Three-Tier Cigar Box By Tiffany
Co c.1920
By Tiffany
Co.
Located in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent
Antique early-20th Century Tiffany & Co solid silver three tier cigar box, cedar-lined, rectangular shaped, the bottom compartment used for cigars and is mounted with a partly raised hinged cover supporting a smaller cigarette box and its lid supporting hinged match box with cigar clipper with ball handle, the exterior of the box is engraved with a scrolling foliage pattern throughout. Hallmarked Sterling silver (925 standard), Made for Tiffany & Co, stamped inventory number 123.
One of the most iconic jewellery brands, Tiffany & Co's history begins from a small store that was opened on Broadway, New York in 1837. Two school friends Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young started to sell stationery, fancy souvenirs, china and haberdashery. In 1841 the company got a new partner, J.L. Ellis, who suggested selling silverware, jewellery and clocks. The firm changed its name to Tiffany, Young and Ellis.
Charles Tiffany decided to move away from the classic Victorian style that was popular at that time. The owners of the company set up designers to seek inspiration in nature and interpret it in clean and harmonious forms. This innovative approach became known as the "new American style".
In 1853, Charles Tiffany bought the shares of his partners and renamed the company to Tiffany & Co. Beyond jewellery, Tiffany met the growing demand for luxury items from affluent Americans. Solid silver snuff boxes, polished stationery, purses, bouquet holders, perfume bottles and French cosmetics could be found at Tiffany's.
In 1851, the company hired New York's prolific silversmith John C. Moore to design silverware. Moore's silver designs won numerous awards at world exhibitions in the late 19th century. In 1878 Tiffany was awarded the Grand Prix for its Japanese-influenced silverware at the Paris World Exposition. The company became the first American jeweller to be awarded.
Because of the California Gold Rush in the 1850s, Tiffany started to use gold and silver, extracted within the country. Alongside with the introduction of American gemstones...

Vintage Hermes Equestrian Silk Scarf and Irish Linen Cushion Pillow
By Hermès
Located in Belfast, Northern Ireland
Katie Larmour Studio is the original vintage scarf pillow maker. Gaining notability for her unique idea and creations back in 2013 - featured in the likes of the Financial Times, and first selling here on 1stdibs in 2016 - our creations are of the absolute top most quality, craftsmanship and finesse. Thank-you for looking.
Title:
Vintage Hermes Equestrian Silk Scarf and Irish Linen Cushion Pillow
The ‘crème de la crème’ of scarves, this beauty is a one-of-a-kind luxury cushion (pillow) created from an exquisite vintage silk Hermes fashion scarf in their festive ‘Les Rubans Du Cheval’ equestrian pattern by Joachim Metz in 1988. A variety of elaborate ribbon rosettes in vibrant, colourful hues - an ornament made of pleated material, gathered so as to resemble a rose and worn as a decorative badge to show ranking in a competition.
The French company began in 1837 producing superior quality leather goods, harnesses and saddles, which makes sense that 100 years later the main theme on their luxury scarves is equestrian. Hermes scarves, known as ‘carre’ (squares), have become a symbol of French chic and are a highly desirable object across the globe that still continues to delight. Favoured by the ‘jet-setters’ of the 50s and 60s and gaining iconic status by Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and this particular elegant design even worn by Queen Elizabeth II. The name of the print along with the brand’s signature proudly features in the centre. The attractive equestrian design is a delicately detailed illustration of bridal equipment with buckles, leather straps, feminine mermaids holding up functional hoops and lions holding crests on other sections of the metal hardware adorning the elaborate piece. It features a display of two equestrian horse bride dressings symmetrical like a mirror image of each other. In a dramatic, busy picture of multicoloured ribbon colour way on a quality sumptuous twill silk with a beautiful texture. It was made using the ‘Lyonnaise technique’ silk screen process with each of it’s 13 frames traditional laid one by one by hand (the more complex patterns can go out to 42). Before being carefully unravelled to create our cushion, the edge was delicately hand rolled and hemmed, a distinctive French style finish of all Hermes scarves. We also have a couple of other similar stunning Hermes scarf cushions...

Breakfast at Tiffany
s, Signed by Truman Capote, First Edition, 1958
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Capote, Truman. Breakfast at Tiffany's: A short novel and three stories. New York: Random House, 1958. First edition, first issue printing. Signed by Truman Capote. In the original publisher’s orange first issue dust jacket and yellow cloth binding. Presented with an archival clamshell case.
This is a signed, first edition, first issue of Truman Capote's classic novella chronicling the adventures of the free-spirited Holly Golightly, Breakfast at Tiffany's. In addition to the title novella, the book also includes three other short stories: House of Flowers, A Diamond Guitar, and A Christmas Memory. The book is issued its first issue dust jacket with the 10/58 date code one the front flap. "First Printing" is stated on the copyright page and the book signed by the author “Truman Capote” on the front flyleaf.
Capote originally sold his story Breakfast at Tiffany's to Harper's Bazaar for $2,000, with intended publication in its July 1958 issue. Shortly after the publication was scheduled, Harper's editor Carmel Snow was ousted by the magazine's publisher, the Hearst Corporation, and Hearst executives began asking for changes to the novella's language as there was concern that Tiffany's & Co., a major advertiser, would react negatively. The story was removed from the Harper’s Bazzar publication schedule but Capote soon resold the work to Esquire for $3,000. His novella appeared in Esquire’s November 1958 issue.
A collection of the Breakfast at Tiffany’s novella and three short stories by Capote was published by Random House in the same year. The novella received glowing reviews. "If you want to capture a period in New York, no other book has done it so well. He could capture a period and place like few others" (Norman Mailer). The novella was quickly adapted for the 1961 hit film starring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard.
Truman Capote was born in New Orleans and educated in New York and Connecticut. He worked in the Art Department of The New Yorker and as a writer on a television show before going on his own as a full-time writer. His first novel at age 24, Other Voices, Other Rooms, brought him literary fame and a strong following, which continued throughout his life, reaching a peak with the success of his "nonfiction” true...

Original Vintage US Lobby Card Movie Poster, 1961
By Robert E. McGinnis
Located in Devon, GB
Lobby Cards were designed for display in a cinema lobby to lure the movie-going public. Typically released in sets of 8, each card depicted a different scene from the film. This charming US lobby card for 'Breakfast At Tiffany's,' number 7 of the set, depicts Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly and George Peppard as Paul Varjak sipping coffee against a backdrop of Manhattan. Featuring a miniature version of Robert McGinnis' iconic artwork used for the US insert, the lobby cards offer a bit of Tiffany's magic at a more affordable price point than the larger and highly sought after US Campaign posters.
Holly Golightly would be Audrey Hepburn’s defining role, establishing her status as one of the greatest screen legends and style icons of all time. It seems unbelievable now that Truman Capote, author of the novella on which the movie was based, had his heart set on Marilyn Monroe for the part. Monroe pulled out of the running when her acting coach advised her not to play a lady of the night...
