Artist Comments
Artist John Jaster displays a forest with tall aspens rendered in a playfully abstract style. Bold shades of yellow, orange and red suggest a warm autumn day in the woods. In his process, John creates stunning color combinations by utilizing multiple layers of heavy body acrylics and brushwork. He results with captivating scenery with intense contrasting hues and high-spirited energy.

About the Artist
Artist John Jaster paints in a style he describes as realistic impressions, capturing colorful views of his adventures across the Americas. "People always ask me how I get such deep brilliant colors," says John. "The answer is layers. Since acrylic paint dries mostly transparent, it requires multiple layers of paint to build up to a specific color. With the right lighting that depth of layering is like sunshine glistening through clear water." In college, John felt a pull towards computer science and pursued a career in software architecture. Although the two paths may seem unrelated, John says his work in software strongly influences his artwork in terms of distilling complex systems without losing the magic and wonder. Today, John works from a large home studio with a fireplace, lots of natural light, and jazz playing in the background. Since 2010, John’s paintings have been displayed in over 90 juried exhibitions and published in leading art magazines and books.

Boulder Canyon, Colorado Autumn Landscape Oil Painting by Irene Fowler, 1940s
By Irene Fowler
Located in Denver, CO
This vintage 1940s oil on canvas painting by Colorado artist Irene Fowler (1884–1969) beautifully captures the vibrant autumn landscape of Boulder Canyon. With a masterful eye for color and atmosphere, Fowler presents majestic mountain peaks framed by glowing Aspen trees in their fall brilliance, their leaves shimmering in radiant shades of gold, orange, and red. The scene reflects both the serenity and dramatic character of Colorado’s rugged wilderness, offering a timeless vision of the Rocky Mountains. Fowler’s keen observation of light and painterly brushwork bring the landscape vividly to life, evoking the crisp mountain air and golden glow of a Colorado autumn day. Her ability to balance natural grandeur with intimate detail makes this work an exceptional example of early 20th-century Western American painting. The painting itself measures 22 ¼ x 18 ¼ inches and is presented in a custom gilded frame with outer dimensions of 25 ¼ x 21 ¼ x 1 ½ inches, enhancing its elegance and making it ready for display. Signed by the artist in the lower right corner. About the Artist: Irene Fowler (1884–1969) was a pivotal figure in Denver’s early 20th-century art community. Born in Illinois, she later settled in Colorado, where she became both a respected public school teacher and a founding member of the Denver Artists Guild (now the Colorado Artists Guild). Best known for her en plein air landscapes, Fowler captured the beauty of Colorado’s mountains, Aspen groves, and mining towns with an extraordinary sensitivity to light, color, and atmosphere. She exhibited widely throughout her career, including at the Schlier Gallery, Chappell House, University Club...

Hues of Fall, Oil Painting
By Lisa Elley
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
Artist Lisa Elley paints a kaleidoscopic autumnal landscape, vibrant with spirited flecks from her palette knife. Using her signature style, Lisa applies impasto trees with thick texture and gentle movement. The foliage sways with energy, suggesting a beautiful fall day in the mountains with the colorful changing leaves on display.

About the Artist
Artist Lisa Elley produces sweeping impressionist views and rich geographies with lush textures. Growing up on a little farm in New Zealand surrounded by rolling green, she became greatly influenced by her surroundings. This instilled a remarkable ingenuity in her leading her to pursue a fine arts degree at the University of Auckland. Passionate about experiencing new things, she moved to London, New York, Florida, and ultimately the San Francisco Bay Area, where she now resides. She works at her studio inside an old cannery in San Jose with perfect natural light, 30-foot ceilings, and infinite possibilities. She cultivates her skillful command with a palette that allows her to maneuver her artistic blade with fluidity. “I am drawn to them over brushes as they create an amazing sense of movement with the beautiful texture they evoke,” shares Lisa. An award-winning artist, her works have been represented by galleries all over the globe and have also been featured in distinguished publications. Lisa savors the quality time she spends with her family during her free time.

Large Painting "Red Sky" Oil Spackle on Wood Katherine Bowling American Modern
By Katherine Bowling
Located in Surfside, FL
Katherine Bowling (American, b. 1955) Oil on spackle on wood 1988 Hand signed, titled and dated verso, Dimensions: 48"h x 48"w Provenance: From an Important Private Collection, NYC; bears gallery label from Blum Helman Gallery, NYC Notes/Literature: Exhibited: "Earth and Sky: Recent Paintings by Katherine Bowling, Joan Nelson and Ellen Phelan", Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College 1992 Katherine Bowling (born 1955, Washington, D.C.) is a modernist painter known for her layered landscape paintings that draw inspiration from nature in the Hudson Valley. Katherine Bowling grew up in Tidewater, Virginia. She received her BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1978. Bowling's first New York show, as well as her first solo exhibition, was in 1987. Bowling's works tend to be luminous landscape paintings that often feature woods and fields as well as roads. Many of her paintings are based on her photographs of woods and fields surrounding and in Schoharie County, where she rents a house. As Molly O'Neill notes in an essay on Bowling and her work, this area is "fifty miles northwest of the vistas that inspired the Hudson River School painters in the mid-1800s." Bowling focused in particular on the imagery of roads for the theme of her exhibition at Greenberg Van Doren, Divide. As the title implies, writes Lilly Wei in the exhibition's accompanying catalog, Bowling views the roads as "abstract marks in the landscape that divide and order space." Even with roads she has often traveled, Bowling finds something new on closer inspection that alters her perception of the familiar and mundane. Bowling explains that the roads "function as a metaphor for memory and displacement." In 2001, Bowling exhibited a number of seascape paintings. In her essay on the exhibition, art historian and critic Nancy Princenthal writes that, far from being an aberration from Bowling's typically home-based scenes, the ocean paintings are "a return to childhood memories and life long inclinations. A native of Virginia, she spent her first summers at the Atlantic shore and on the Chesapeake Bay." Primarily, however, Bowling's works focus on capturing the play of light and shadow. Art critic Eleanor Heartney notes that "Her paintings, like those of Monet, Pissarro, and Renoir, focus on the ephemeral moment and the fleeting impression, conjuring the flicker of sunlight through the trees, the shifting shadows of early evening, the reflections of clouds and foliage glancing across the rippling surface of a lake." They have a luminist quality to them. O'Neill argues that Bowling additionally "has an innate sense of abstraction and she ranges happy as an uncaged chicken, pecking elements from the Impressionists' obsession with light; from modern photography; and the drip paintings of Jackson Pollock." Bowling is influenced by the use of light in the paintings of European Romantics such as J. M. W. Turner and John Constable as well as by the later work of George Inness:  Her paintings also recall landscapes by Claude Lorraine, Albert Pinkham Ryder and Camille Corot. Bowling is known for her use of spackle. She uses a long process of layering and sanding to create the "back-lit" effect found in her paintings. First, the paintings begin as a photograph which she typically takes near her rented house in the Hudson Valley. Then, she uses these photographs, which serve as her "preliminary drawings," to aid in the painting process. She also paints from memory and direct observation. Bowling paints on square panels of plywood. Bowling considers rectangular pieces to be too horizontal and rife of implications already of landscapes and horizons. She sometimes paints on one of these square and sometimes paints on several square panels together. The seams between these adjoined panels are left visible. Next, Bowling applies layers of spackle. O'Neill remarks that "Inspired, perhaps, by her day job of painting houses, [Bowling] turned to more industrial media: damp vinyl spackle, a building compound that is applied to wooden panels to create a matte, fresco-like surface. Thinned oil pigments are poured, allowed to dry, and then the Sisyphean task of sanding begins."  Initial layers generally correspond with the color of the light—varying from pinks, golds, blues, and oranges. Through this layering and sanding, she creates a luminous quality in her landscapes. Despite rigorous sanding, air bubbles within the spackle layers are revealed occasionally on the surface. Rather than disguise them, Bowling integrates them. Heartney writes that Bowling "allows these irregularities to become part of the painting so that the viewer's perception of the play of light and shadow across the image cannot be separated from an awareness of surface itself." In later stages of painting, Bowling stands above panels to throw, dribble, and splatter paint with a hair dryer, recalling the techniques of Abstract Expressionist artists such as Jackson Pollock. Abstract Mixed Media Collage Oil Painting Sports, Leather Baseball Mitts
By Patrick LoCicero
Located in Surfside, FL
Title: (Baseball) Mits 25.5" W x 25.5" H x 2.25" framed; canvas measures 24" W x 24" H. Provenance: The Rails Collection, Washington, DC (with their label verso) This depicts floating baseball gloves inn an abstract pattern. This is not signed on the front and might be signed verso. We have not examined out of frame. Patrick LoCicero was born in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1959. He attended Youngstown State University, Ohio, and the Columbus College of Art and Design. He completed a B.F.A. at Ohio State University in 1982 and an M.F.A. at the San Francisco Art Institute in 1986. His paintings, installations, prints, and multimedia work have been shown in California, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. LoCicero's richly layered imagery is characterized by unusual juxtapositions of everyday objects and classical motifs, which play with the viewer's perception of materials and subjects. LoCicero’s assemblage paintings combine collage with painting. The overlap and collage elements relate directly to the images he depicts, guiding him in his choice of subjects, and come from a variety of sources including the Kama Sutra, antique children’s books, letters and journals. His still life paintings resonate due to the contrast the artist sets up between the collaged surface and the painted surface, as well as the play between the actual shallow space and implied deep space. Patrick specializes in creating mixed-media collages that tell stories. Collage paintings inventively reinterpret the collage technique that developed during the Cubist Dada era, and he reinvigorates one of the most important modes of expression in the art of the 20th Century. Morris’ first major solo exhibition occurred at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis in 1952. This show served as the catalyst for his recruitment onto the rosters of the prominent Stable and Kootz galleries in New York. Located in Los Angeles, CA
As one of the world’s most collected, significant pop artists today, Nelson De La Nuez is a born iconoclast. Using his unique juxtaposition of pop culture and surrealism, blended with America’s rich culture and history, De La Nuez has created works of art that are considered timeless. Listed on the “Who’s Who List of the Most Collected Artists of Our Time,” his works are original, bold and outspoken. De La Nuez is known for his distinctive, trademarked style called “Art on the Edge,” which is creating art on all sides of the canvas and wood. This unique painting measures 48 inches high by 40 inches wide. It is signed on the front and the back by the artist. This artwork is framed in a black wood frame. Size and price include frame. It is wired and ready to hang. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable U.S. and global shipping options available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. De La Nuez’s artwork is hanging in some of the most prominent, private collections of movie stars, directors, producers, comedians, corporations and art connoisseurs, as well as purchased recently for future auctions by Sotheby’s. His works are represented by Artplex Gallery, Los Angeles. Nelson De La Nuez was born in 1959 in Havana, Cuba and came to the US at age seven. He was raised in Glendale, CA. De La Nuez studied art history at Boston University. He sees life as a “backwards ride on a Ferris wheel while sitting in an enlightening philosophy course.” His images become performances – his characters the source of laughter and enjoyment. Nelson tries to create a new generation of art lovers, drawing upon icons and art history to entice younger minds, in turn provoking the interest of the generation above them. De La Nuez is an innovative artist who captivates people with his outlandish juxtaposed art. He is constantly creating new, thought-provoking images, which have been collected worldwide. The L.A. Times called De La Nuez “the comedic da Vinci of our times.” His ability to use these non-related images to achieve a whole new and stimulating outlook on life has brought him many awards and published features. The artist continues to challenge himself to incorporate new and exciting ideas into his art and his style. He believes he is a success if his art inspires people to think beyond the norm. Artplex Gallery has been representing and exhibiting Nelson de la Nuez's original artworks since 2016. Artplex Gallery is a partner gallery of Artspace Warehouse. Artspace Warehouse has been a 1stdibs partner since 2014 with consistently excellent reviews from clients worldwide. Life s Little Palette/Live it Up, 2020
By Nelson De La Nuez
Located in New York, NY
Latest series from artist. Framed Mixed Media Sketch. Hand painted. White Frame. Glass. Humorous. Homage to the Warhol circles with a provocative, narrative twist. About the Artist: NELSON DE LA NUEZ is one of the most sought-after contemporary Pop artists practicing today. His striking, vivid mixed media artwork borrows motifs and messages from the language of wealth, power, fame, excess, taste, and access to cast a narrative about modern society. Known to many as The King of Pop Art®, De La Nuez is an innate iconoclast, elevating themes from commerce, pop culture, advertising, and branding to provide commentary on our culture – showing us that the entire world is for sale –in a manner that is both ironic and aspirational. Included in the “Who’s Who List of the Most Collected Artists of Our Time”, De La Nuez was born in Cuba and moved as a child to California, where he was initially introduced to many of the iconic images that he uses in his art to this day. His ability to experience these important cultural touchpoints at such a young age with a purely fresh perspective allows him a distinctive point of view – one that is both critical and embracing, sardonic and sentimental – that lends his work an air of accessibility and curiosity, and has led to his significant popularity. Demonstrating that art can be both humorous and intellectual, he first gained recognition in the 1980’s for his unique Pop Art style, using familiar imagery from popular board games, as well as newspaper articles, vintage advertisements, and other visual references that spoke about upward mobility to an emerging luxury audience. “My artwork is a reflection of who I am today as a result of every event that has taken place in my life, every person I have met and everything I have processed through my senses up until this point in time,” explains De La Nuez. Always evolving, he is a master at embedding deeper meaning into familiar visual references, updating his themes to reflect the culture of society today, while maintaining the respect and integrity of the references from which he borrows. Over the course of his career, his voice has continued to evolve to provide subtle commentary on the trappings of fame and luxury in a way that continues to feel relevant today. De La Nuez was selected by Warner Bros. as an official artist to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the film, The Wizard of Oz, and was commissioned to create a series of original art work to celebrate the iconic film. He has collaborated with a number of prestigious brands to integrate his artistic vision into various product collections including a current series of timepieces by Swiss watch manufacturer Corum. His branded home, fashion and lifestyle products have sold through luxury retailers including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor, and Nordstrom. De La Nuez’s work hangs alongside the world’s most valuable artists in some of the most prestigious galleries around the globe, is exhibited regularly at top-tier art shows including Art Basel Miami, Art Central Hong Kong, Context and Art Market Hamptons, and is part of numerous private collections. Original De La Nuez pieces hang in Delta airline's private collection in Delta One’s VIP and SkyClub airport lounges throughout the country. He has been commissioned by numerous high-profile brands to create bespoke installations including Hermes and Kim Kardashian’s ShoeDazzle, and has earned a long list of celebrity admirers, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane Warren, Howie Mandel, Kaley Cuoco, and Kelly Clarkson. De La Nuez resides in Los Angeles. Paloma s Dance - Original Oil on Canvas Abstract Figurative Dancer Painting
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Mark Acetelli’s oil and mixed media paintings awaken the viewer’s sense of exploration and adventure; they demand a new discovery. His artworks exhibit a chemistry of complexity and spontaneity, a lyrical abstraction of frenzied marks, many of which previously lay hidden, buried beneath strong layers of self-taught expression. Those truths, first obscured and then obvious, aim to engage the viewer, allowing them to explore their own interpretation. His figurative abstract artworks are represented by Artspace Warehouse in Los Angeles and have been exhibited and collected worldwide, including London, New York, and Hong Kong. This original oil painting on canvas measures 20 inches high by 16 inches wide. It is wired and ready to hang. The sides of the artwork are painted black and it does not require framing. It is signed by the artist on the front of the artwork and titled on the back. Convenient local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and international shipping are available. A certificate of authenticity issued by Artplex Gallery is included. Mark Acetelli was born in Detroit into an artistic household. Mark’s mother herself was a painter and some of his earliest memories were the smell of turpentine and oil paints. Growing up surrounded by his mother's work, she inspired and encouraged him to become an artist. Acetelli’s paintings are inspired by the intensely personal introspective journey of life, from the ever-changing complexities of love, loss, birth, and death. The context of his work he describes as, “Absence and Presence” pertaining to how someone or something can be physically gone, but the essence still remains. Capturing the physical mixed with spirituality on canvas. His application of paint is an extension of that thought process. He works by continuously building up and tearing down, layer upon layer, adding and subtracting. A visceral dance between the conscious and the unconscious until the emotion is expressed. Acetelli’s paintings may go through multiple incarnations with the past lying just beneath the surface, adding to its overall dimension and depth. In his work, Acetelli seeks to evoke a feeling rather than depict a defined image. He uses primarily oils and encaustics to create thickly layered canvases with emotive bursts of color. Creating a world where imagination and reality come together. Acetelli’s works can be found in many private and corporate collections around the world, including Bill Withers...

"Sunset", Oil Painting
By Gordon Brown
Located in Denver, CO
Gordon Brown's "Sunset" is an original, handmade oil painting that depicts an atmospheric sunset. "My paintings are all about light and mood," says Colorado native Gordon Brown. He never tires of the view from his converted barn/studio on the state's western slope, which allows him to observe firsthand the various moods and palettes of the seasons. Brown has come to appreciate the subtleties and drama created by changing light and regularly incorporates them into his work. Brown grew up in Grand Junction, CO, and still lives nearby. Ensconced in his century-old home shaded by peach and apricot trees, Brown finds peace and inspiration in this bucolic oasis. From the balcony of his studio at the back of the property, Brown can survey the imposing Bookcliffs mountain range. Brown made his first foray into art when he bought a set of oil paints while in high school. Although he had not painted until then, two of his oils won best of show and first place, respectively, in a high-school art contest. This early recognition sparked his interest in art and his desire to pursue a career as an artist. Brown also received encouragement from several established artists in the area. Shortly after graduating from high school, he was introduced to Mark Rohrig...
