Japanese Big Antique Blue And White Hand-Painted Good Fortune Money Cat
Located in South Burlington, VT
Japan a rare large-scale and lovely hand-painted blue and white ceramic Maneki Neko good fortune money cat. It is from the Arita/ imari kilns and dates to the early 20th century. Notice the intricate detailed blue painting on white porcelain of this cat's eyes, body, necklace, and tail. Dimensions: Big 15.5 inches tall and 7inches wide. This comes from a very fine Kyoto area collection. Handsome hand painted blue detail replete with a necklace with bells and bows. Old original patina from appropriate age. An earlier work of art that is hard to find in this size and quality. Handmade and hand-painted. Only one. History: The Maneki-Neko (Japanese literally -beckoning cat) - is a common Japanese figurine (lucky charm, talisman) which is often believed to bring good luck to the owner. In Modern Times, they are usually made of ceramic or plastic. Wooden examples are few and far between. The figurine depicts a cat (traditionally a calico Japanese Bobtail) beckoning with an upright paw, and is usually displayed in—often at the entrance of—shops, restaurants, pachinko parlors, and other businesses. The maneki-neko is sometimes also called the welcoming cat, lucky cat, money cat, happy cat...

Japanese Three Panel Framed Gold Black White Porcelain Artwork by Master Artist
Located in Takarazuka, JP
Extraordinary Japanese contemporary three-panel framed porcelain artwork in gold, black and white. This is a masterpiece by a third generation master porcelain artist in the Imari-Arita region of Japan who is the descendant of an extended family of prolific porcelain and ceramic artists. The artist's profile is available upon request. The kiln started in the 19th century with traditional kinrande techniques (gold enameled porcelain), but in accordance with the philosophy of the kiln’s founder, each subsequent generation pioneered in a field of the master’s choosing. Thus, the second generation is known for its yuri-kinsai (gold foil underglaze) and the third generation for its haku-yui (intertwining of precious-metal foils). Yuri-kinsai was termed in the 1950s as a new glazing technique. The main feature is a highly transparent overglaze on the gilded porcelain, cutting out stencils of gold foil for underglaze decorations. In this exceptional work, the artist has used gold leaf, black and white for expressing the dramatic scene of Tawaraya Sotatsu's influential "Wind God and Thunder God" that is considered a Japanese National Treasure. It is a pair of two-folded screens using...

Contemporary Japanese Blue Gray Gold Porcelain Matcha Tea Cup by Master Artist
Located in Takarazuka, JP
Japanese contemporary porcelain tea cup/matcha cup, hand painted in blue underglaze in stunning shades of blue and gray on an elegantly shaped ovoid porcelain body, a signed piece by highly acclaimed master porcelain artist in the Imari-Arita tradition. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain, a large lidded jar in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. This artist is the recipient of numerous awards for his exceptional porcelain work and his unique signature gold and platinum work on porcelain. His profile is available upon request. This stunning porcelain Japanese matcha tea cup depicts elegant gold fish in soft shades of blue, decorated with gold swimming all around the body of the vase, the intricate wave pattern indicates that the fish are swimming in the ocean. Two bands of exquisite floral patterns decorate the top of the vase all the way to the rim, to add another layer of interest to this piece. “Fired-on gold,” this artist’s signature style, highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome overglaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as 5-10 firings. This artist's profile is available upon request. This hand-painted porcelain Japanese tea cup...
