A Japanese black lacquer box with mother of pearl inlays circa early 20th century, end of Meiji period. It was likely to be used to store inkstone or other scholarly items. The piece displays several interesting characteristics that appear puzzling initially. First, the form is not typical Japanese, but more Chinese and Korean, with its scalloped base. Second, the decoration of MOP inlays also suggests a Korean and Chinese affiliation, especially with the linear borders and the scrolling cloud patters on the sides of the box. These two observations suggest that the box may be from Ryukyu Island instead of Japanese mainland. Most pieces of furniture from the Baroque era date from the period between 1670 and around 1750. Starting with strict but pompous forms, Baroque furniture developed into playful pieces of furniture with numerous curves and magnificent fittings by the middle of the 18th century. Baroque chests of drawers mostly date from the period between 1720 and 1750 and feature multiple curved fronts and veneer marquetry. Baroque tables and chairs feature lavishly curved legs, the lower ends of which end in volutes or animal hooves. Towards the end of the Baroque period and the Rococo period, the curved legs of tables and chairs merge into the frames in a single sweep. Baroque cabinets are usually disproportionately large by today's living standards, as they originally stood in castles. Heights of 2.40 to 2.60 meters are not uncommon for baroque cabinets.

Red and black ceramic table centerpiece made in Rockabilly style, the colors are strong and decisive, the black has the distinction of having beautiful reflections nacreè (mother of pearl), reflections that unfortunately the photos can not capture, from life are really seductive, the form is nicely undulating, pleasant and very capacious; the centerpiece was produced between 1950 and 1953, by skilled artisans in the area of Vallauris, the "French city of ceramics" in Provence north-east of Cannes, renowned since ancient times for the production of this fascinating material; there were more than 250 production centers, but today very few remain and since the mid-20th century, they are dedicated to the manufacture of contemporary ceramics. The word "Rockabilly" is a combination of "rock and roll" and "hillbilly" (a derogatory term used to define the Appalachian mountain people and, in a generic sense, meant country boor); Rockabilly was a musical genre developed in the early 1950s, it was one of the first forms of rock & roll.
