Cigarette Case Fired Enamel on a Fine Hand-Engraved Mountain Landscape Sterling
By Salimbeni, Franco Salimbeni
Located in Firenze, FI
Rounded rectangular snuffbox in 925/1000 sterling silver gold plated with beautiful fire enamelled miniature hand painted by the painter Simone Dainelli inspired by the paintings of Boris Vallejo, in fantastic contemporary style, with hand-engraved frame. Designed by Franco Salimbeni in 1967 and manufactured in Florence in numerous specimens with various subjects and different colors, in the headquarters of the Salimbeni company with completely manual execution by artisan artists with thick slab and large reinforcements suitable for withstanding numerous high-fire enamelled firings at about 800° C. Miniature is a very ancient technique which consists of painting works in small proportions. It was born for the decoration of the first letter of the paragraph of the books. Over the years, however, this technique is refined and enriched, then moving on to precious personal items. hand painted miniatures can be done with multiple different techniques. The most important that we use on our articles are of three kinds: 1) Fire enamel. 2) Water tempera on an ivory plate. 3) Painted on mother-of-pearl. Fire enameled miniatures: On a first layer of enamel generally white or very clear or even transparent suitably liquefied at a temperature of about 750 ° C, the chosen subject is painted using miniature colors which are as many colored crystals, ground and reduced to a very fine, almost impalpable powder washed and purified in distilled water with the addition of small quantities of deoxidizing acids which, diluted with essential oils (usually essential oil of solder), can be mixed to form a palette of colors. With very fine sable hair brushes you draw the subject starting from the perimeter and then gradually adding various layers of color. It is necessary to carry out various firings very often so that the colors harden and are not absorbed by the underlying glaze as, during the subsequent firings at 750 ° C, during liquefaction, it would spread irremediably. Hence the need to form the painting a little at a time, cooking it numerous times. Therefore it is necessary to proceed with numerous retouching, often overlapping different colors that only the painter's experience knows. A beautiful miniature needs from 20 to over 50 firings and is finished when the painter deems he does not have to further intervene. Some colors must have darker tones than others because then, by superimposing the transparent enamel placed at the end of the miniature, they fade. This transparent layer, called “fondant” in jargon, must be smoothed and polished like all other translucent enamel colors. The miniatures with water tempera colors are painted on real ivory...

Murano with Gold, 1940, Italian, Attributed to Barovier Toso
By Vetreria Artistica Barovier C.
Located in Ciudad Autónoma Buenos Aires, C
Murano with gold We have specialized in the sale of Art Deco and Art Nouveau and Vintage styles since 1982. If you have any questions we are at your disposal. Pushing the button that reads 'View All From Seller'. And you can see more objects to the style for sale. Attributed to Barovier Toso The company is one of the oldest family businesses in the world, founded in 1295 as Barovier. "The name Barovier derives from the term berroviere (highwayman/policman, which indicates the armigero (person entitled to bear arms) guarding the captain of the people. It is probable that some Barovier, originally from Treviso, settled in Murano around 1291, when a law of the Republic imposed the concentration on the island of all glass furnaces." Jacobello was the first member of the Barovier family to work glass at this time. It is thought that the company originated in Treviso[citation needed]. The Toso family had been established in Murano since around 1350. In the 1400s Angelo Barovier created glass objects which are currently preserved in various museums. Angelo is recognized as significant for uniting the knowledge which had been developed and handed down by family Barovier. He was not only considered and artist but a scientist. The company became Ferro Toso Vetrerie Artistiche Riunite S.A in 1936 when Vetreria Artistica Barovier merged with Ferro Toso, specializing in crystalline glass, mother-of-pearl glass, and gold-free cornelian red glass.. In 1942, the company was renamed Barovier & Toso. In 1919–1920, 30 year old designer Ercole Barovier began a 50-year career as the artistic director of Barovier & Toso.[9] "After studying medicine and working as a radio operator during World War One he joined the family firm in 1920 when he and his brother Nicolo took over the management from their father Benvenuto. From 1927 Ercole was the main designer and from 1934, when Nicolo left the company, (he was) also the sole owner." While Barovier did not have formal training as a glassblower, his artistic designs produced objets d'art that have become the most critically acclaimed in the history of Ercole - Barovier. In 1930 he produced his award-winning “Primavera” series. "The Primavera series ... is distinguished by a milky white 'craquelé' glass with the addition of black or blue pasta vitrea trim ("opaque colored glass whose consistency is made to appear like ceramic") and decoration. There was a very limited production of this series due to the fact that it was a result of a glass mixture obtained accidentally so it could never be replicated." One example of this series, a Primavera Pigeon, was sold at auction for GBP 275,000 (approximately $360,000 USD, not inclusive of the buyer’s premium) on October 16, 2019. Barovier continued to produce innovative designs of which the “Lenti” vase...

Dimensions Height:- 12.5cm Width and depth:- 15.9cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. Victoria, Lady de Rothschild (1949-2021 Victoria was born and spent her formative years in the sunshine of Florida; the warm rays and the life-style of Palm Beach brought her a freedom of spirit that remained with her throughout her life and informed and shaped her taste. Later the family moved to Manhattan; her mother, Marcia Lou Whitney Schott, was a woman of great poise and style and remained a huge and lasting inspiration to her daughter. After coming to London, as a young adult, to dip her toe into British culture, she went back to the US and gained a degree in economics at Trinity College Hartford. Three years later, through mutual friends she met and married Sir Evelyn de Rothschild. They returned to the UK and made their homes in London and in the Rothschild family house in Buckinghamshire; Victoria bringing to the formal landscape of these two houses a transatlantic chic and her own particular quiet exoticism. The history of collecting in the Rothschild family is meticulously documented and was well known to Victoria, it was music to her ears. She continued the tradition and over a period of 40 years gathered together a remarkable and eclectic collection of furniture, glass, china, silver and jewellery. She bought instinctively and decisively; in later years the collection was curated by her great friend, decorator and dress designer, Tomasz Starzewski. There was nothing that Victoria enjoyed more than entertaining her friends and giving them exquisitely wrapped presents. In her last flat, she had a room entirely set aside for present wrapping. It was here that she kept exotic Japanese tissue papers in graded shades, antique rolls of striped ribbons and haute couture silk ones, ready for when a friend had a birthday. Entertaining remained one of her greatest pleasures, and she did this on two levels: the very large dinners for 200 or 250 people, to the more intimate events for family, friends, children and grandchildren. Whatever the circumstances, like an impresario rising to the challenge, she would set to work, with an awesome attention to detail that seemed effortless; she was brimming full of ideas. I remember in particular one birthday dinner when the ceiling of the dining room was covered with hovering aubergine coloured balloons, echoing the violet napkins below. Her large-scale entertainments were memorable; there was an anniversary dinner at Lords Cricket Ground, where the tablecloths were made of white cricket flannel and boiled brisket was served, so simple, witty, understated, whilst Rory Bremner provided the cabaret. On the occasion of her daughter’s 21st birthday, she transformed the Royal College of Art into a replica of the 20th century nightclub ‘El Morocco’ in New York for the evening, with Manhattan taxis waiting outside to take the guests home. Victoria’s greatest talent however was in creating tablescapes. This was almost like choreography, and there was always an element of the unexpected. The starting point was a textured fabric - her version of a tablecloth - be it a woven Kente from Ghana, a patchwork quilted sari from India, or a gossamer light runner; the variety of texture and colour enthralled her. She would lay the table, instinctively moving glass, silver, porcelain and flowers around, embellishing, intermingling traditional and contemporary, searching for a harmony that lived up to her own perfectionism. At times she would choose her favourite 18th century Chantilly porcelain plates - even when there were children present - with delicate blue sprays, surrounding a centrepiece of fifteen to twenty Chinese tulip vases. There were never side plates or bread knives - it was a pared down aesthetic, not an excessive one. White Murano goblets and Georg Jensen contemporary silver pitchers would add sparkle and freshness; the result looked like a 16th century Dutch still life. At other events, the table would become a playful study in the juxtaposition of colour, using her gently multi coloured 50’s retro plates, Balinese silver rimmed lacquered bowls and glass tutti-frutti tumblers, made by the Rothschilds’ cousins, the Brandolinis, in Venice. The drinks trays in all her houses will stay in my memory for many years to come. Victoria’s signature Baccarat decanters would stand proud; around them a cluster of delicate early 20th century glasses engraved with the Rothschild crest...

Framed Measurements: 24" H x 33" W Charles Joshua Chaplin (8 June 1825 – 30 January 1891) was a French painter and printmaker who painted both landscapes and portraits. He was an accomplished artist mastering different techniques such as pastels, lithography, watercolor, chalk, oil painting and etching. He was best known for his elegant portraits of young women. Charles Joshua Chaplin was born on 8 June 1825 in Les Andelys, Eure, France. His mother, Olympia Adelle Moisy, was French, whereas his father, John Chaplin, was an art broker from England. Charles Chaplin spent his whole life in France, becoming a naturalized citizen in 1886.[1][2] He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1840, and he took private lessons in the studio of Michel Martin Drolling, whose apprentices included Paul Baudry, Jules Breton and Jean-Jacques Henner. Later he also taught at the École des Beaux-Arts.[2] In 1845 he entered the Salon de Paris, the official art exhibition of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, as a portrait and landscape painter with the painting Portrait of the Artist's Mother. Chaplin conducted art classes specifically for women at his studio. The American artist Mary Cassatt, the French artist Louise Abbéma and the English artist Louise Jopling were among Chaplin's students. His son Arthur Chaplin was also a painter. Chaplin died on 30 January 1891 in Paris as a wealthy man and is buried in the Père Lachaise Cemetery.[3][4] Chaplin made his debut at the Salon with portraits, but he also painted landscapes, particularly the countryside of Auvergne. His early works, from 1848 to 1851, were painted in a more realistic style, and are characterized by an interest in realism, which was a style that had been reestablished in France by the French Second Republic, that had the motto Liberté, égalité, fraternité, and was ruled for three years by the republican government of France from the 1848 Revolution until the 1851 coup by Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte. Realism was an artistic movement that began in France in the 1850s, after the 1848 Revolution.[5] From the late 18th century Romanticism dominated French art and literature but was spurned by Realists, who revolted against the display of the emotions of the Romantic movement, seeking to depict real and characteristic contemporary individuals and situations with truth and accuracy.[6] Chaplin painted many works in his early days, including floral studies that were displayed at the Salon de las Flores. Later, in the late 1850s, he abandoned naturalism, his earlier style, exchanging it for a more graceful, elegant and supple technique that brought him a certain notoriety in France during his time as a portrait painter; as such he embraced the idyllic and voluptuous and fashionable style of the prominent French painter, François Boucher (1703–1770).[7] He also embraced the tradition of the great English portraitists. He developed his very own style of painting but was inspired by the British painters Joshua Reynolds and Thomas Gainsborough. He used to engrave the works of the Dutch artist Pieter Paul Rubens and gained further influence from his work.[2] Later work Gradually the muddy colours used by Chaplin transformed into white, grey and pink, depicting his models with an opalescent, mother-of-pearl complexion by applying a subtle palette of rosy flesh tones and light greys. After painting portraits and trying his skills on ornamental painting, Chaplin took up genre painting in the 1850s. His favourite subjects are the feminine grace of a young woman’s everyday life. He portrays women in several poses: resting; grooming; singing; and reading. He captures them with lightness and carelessness and accentuates the decorative elements of the composition.[2] Empress Eugénie, the wife of Napoleon III and an admirer of the "Pompadour style", rapidly fell under the enchantment of the painter's neo-Rococo works. Chaplin was among Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie’s favourite court artists. In 1859, when his portrait of Aurora was banned by the judges of the Salon as "too erotically suggestive", Napoléon III defended Chaplin and overturned the disqualification order.[8] He was similarly valued as an interior decorator and was appointed to remodel the decor of Empress Eugénie's rooms.[8] His sensual portraits of women and young girls, often with models posed erotically in hazy surroundings and frequently wearing transparent clothing, attracted the interest of the high society and aristocracy of Paris during the French Third Republic (1870–1940) guaranteeing his success and wealth. He was one of the most popular painters of his time, but nowadays his work is almost unknown, in spite of the fact that his works hang in many major museums around the world.[2] He employed his Rococo style for his mythological scenes and genre scenes paintings. His genre pictures formed a significant part of his work. In 1861, working as a decorative painter. Chaplin painted the doors and several glass panels above them of the Salon des Fleurs in the Tuileries Palace.[3] The Palace was gutted by fire in 1871 and its ruins swiftly demolished.[9] He also undertook decorating work in the Salon de l’Hémicycle of the Palais de l’Elysée.[3] Honours and awards A Song Silenced, Private collection. As a member of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture, Chaplin exhibited his paintings at the Salon de Paris, the official exhibition venue of members' work. He began exhibiting his paintings at the French Artists' Salon in 1845 and was represented there habitually each year. These exhibitions made him one of France's most famous portrait artists. Commencing in 1847, his work was exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy in London.[8] During his lifetime he received acclamation for his artistic talents by the award of several medals: a third class medal in 1851; a second class medal the following year; and an Honour Medal...
