The colors created for the Oyster Perpetual model line are initially created as colored varnish, which must be carefully and evenly applied to achieve a homogeneous surface. This process is carried out in a controlled environment to prevent the ingress of dust and other contaminants.
Six successive coats of lacquer are applied to the brass disc that forms the base of the dial. A transparent lacquer is then applied, which is then polished to give the color shine and vibrancy. The various inscriptions are then pad-printed, while the indices and crown are riveted by hand. The shiny, flawless dial can now be mounted on the movement during the watch's assembly process.
