5 Unexpected Activities to Do in L.A., According to Fashion Girls
Sponsor Content Created With Gucci
While Los Angeles may be known as the "city of stars”—we won’t deny the quiet thrill that comes when crossing paths with your favorite sitcom heroine—it’s also the city of the Dodgers, In-N-Out (enough said), and regular trips to the beach (because it’s that close, at least when traffic doesn’t interfere). And sure, we could be a bit biased, what with Who What Wear HQ being located here, but there’s no denying it’s a wonderful, wild place where you can soak up the sun practically year-round.
As for the activities we’d recommend most should you find yourself visiting or experiencing a lovely day off, we have a whole list for you to indulge in—complete with the stylish outfits we tend to wear for each one, of course. One thing that’s a fashion must no matter which activities you check off our list? Chic eyewear for the consistent 70-degree, perfect sunny days… Even better if they happen to be new-season Gucci.
A sunny a.m. hike is just about as classic as it gets in L.A. We’re not particularly biased as to which trail you choose; just know that any pick that leads you to the Hollywood sign (or boasts a view of the ocean throughout) comes highly recommended. And for such an event, you could wear boring black leggings and aviator shades, but L.A.’s fashion girls are going bolder…
Biker shorts are clearly the new leggings (even better if they’re in a neon hue that feels very 1991), especially when paired with oversize layers (bonus points for a touch of tie-dye). Bright tinted sunnies finish the looks: It’s a really tough tie between this tinted ski goggle esque pair and these fluorescent orange frames. Both will look great in your photo at the peak of the mountain (preferably captioned "started from the bottom now we’re here”).
For less-active occasions—say, lounging in a park reading, snacking, or napping (the most likely suspect)—more vintage-inspired eyewear feels especially good teamed with this season’s major It prints, like checkerboard moments or the strawberries that are on everyone’s lips. Whether you’re firmly team classic black frames or more about these geometric metal sunglasses, you clearly can’t go wrong with a slightly retro feel. Hawaiian shirts? Strongly encouraged.
With traffic in L.A. being undeniably awful, Angelenos tend to leisurely complete just one errand at a time. Which is fine: The task of purchasing a fiddle-leaf fig (compulsory in every Venice Beach living room) certainly shouldn’t be rushed. While there’s no required outfit for running said errands, this off-duty look is at the top of our list. We're particularly into these square ’70s-inspired shades (and also for all the "rose-colored glasses” clichés that follow). L.A. girls love a clever color combo, so don’t even get us started on the pink-hued accessories in addition to the green mash-up that’s happening between this vintage cat blouse and tweed houndstooth miniskirt. Love.
Still thinking about those neon-orange sunglasses? We've got really good news: Neon is trending, so of course Gucci came through with this key style in slime green or punchy pink to boot. Wear them all summer long—especially when you’re hanging out in a blow-up pool in your concrete backyard as you wait to get a call from your agent. More throwback vibes here, too, whether your take is a splashy red suit (complete with embellishments) or a fun fringed tank that’s really just another excuse to get into this season’s favorite prints.
Wondering how the cool crowd in L.A. winds down their days? Ideally it involves a rooftop, the Hollywood Hills rising up behind you, and the kind of style that gives the impression that you may or may not forever reside at a hotel. Luxe-yet-relaxed pieces worn over swimwear seem to say, "I wasn’t expecting you! Yet the champagne is chilled because I’m simply never not ready to entertain.” If you foresee yourself in this situation in the near future, please do me a favor and throw these flawless gray acetate sunglasses on your bad self—follow this advice and nothing else you wear will matter.
