I've Done the Research—These 6 Colours Go Exceptionally Well With Grey

You might think that all the colours in your wardrobe go with grey, and you'd be right! As versatile a shade as they come, grey strikes a harmonious balance in just about any outfit. In fact, I'd even argue it's more versatile than black, owing to its diffused intensity, which often works better with the paler end of the colour spectrum; think pastels and powdery tones that pure black can look harsh against. But which colours go best with grey? This is a question I found myself asking when I treated myself to a new grey coat recently. Which shades would really set it off and complement it?

I turned to social media (as I do whenever I'm in need of style inspiration) to see the colours fashion people are currently wearing with grey. Aside from black and white, which are pretty much guaranteed to work, I found six grey colour combinations that are pretty, striking and classy. 6 COLOURS THAT GO WITH GREY

1. CHILLI RED

Style Notes: Red might be the colour of the season, but it will remain timeless in the future, too. Many people find the combination of red and black too severe (an opinion I've come across time and again in my fashion tenure), and although I don't dislike the combo myself, I prefer the pairing of red and grey, which I'm seeing everywhere right now.

2. WARM BEIGE

Style Notes: Beige and grey are both expensive-looking colours, so it makes sense that the two would work so well together. Opt for a warmer beige hue to counter the typically cooler shades of grey on the market.

3. OLIVE GREEN

Style Notes: Yes, grey works great with neutrals and ultra-brights, but don't overlook the hues in between, such as olive green and rust. I love how this shade lifts a dark grey knit, especially with blue denim in the mix.

4. LIGHT PINK

Style Notes: Pink has been trending hard over the past year; so much so, we've seen it paired with just about every colour out there. Lighter, baby-pink hues look set to continue to be big in 2024, and what do you know, they also look great with grey!

5. NAVY BLUE

Style Notes: Take two classic shades, put them together and what do you get? Something very chic indeed. Truly, there is no wrong navy and grey outfit, so layer up as you please. A navy coat will always look polished, as will grey knitwear—perhaps two good places to start?
