The Hair Color Trends You'll See Everywhere This Year
Whether it's in the world of fashion, wellness, pop culture, or another area of our lives, every year—and season, for that matter—comes with its own set of trends to define the signs of the times. And as the months begin to take their turn for warmer days, chances are you're in the mood to switch things up.
It's likely you've already started swapping in warm-weather staples in lieu of your spring layers, which means you've already prepped your summer wardrobe for the higher temperatures. Of course, if you're the type of person who likes to make their seasonal shifts a head-to-toe type of thing, you're probably due for a new hairstyle—and if that entails a whole new color, there are plenty of cool hair color trends for 2020 to consider.
To give you an idea of what color trends are trending this year, I tapped celebrity stylist Jessica Elbaum for her expertise. If there's one major takeaway, it's that 2020 is all about bolder looks. Scroll down to see what she means below.
'90s Highlights
"I believe the newest trends this year will be chunky highlights and two-toned hair. We will be seeing a lot of dark underneath bright colors on top. Very '90s."
Jet Black
"Dark (almost blue) black… Let's face it: It's glossy and looks expensive. It's also the color of the Kardashian clan's hair, and we can't get enough of it."
Ice Cold Silver
"Women who are going grey are starting to really embrace it. If you are going grey, it's easier to mask it by going ice blonde. But whether you're going grey or not, this color is trending this year."
Paneled Pastels
"If you want bold colors or chunky, colored panels underneath the hair so you will only see it if you part your hair one way or do a hair flip in that direction, it will be a great option for 2020."
50 Shades of Red
"Strawberry blonde and dark red are also great for those who want color, and both shades are unique by nature. I see more people taking risks this year and going for this bolder rich color palette."
