George Grosz (Berlin, 1823 - 1959, Berlin). By the war’s end in 1918, Grosz had developed an unmistakable graphic style that combined a highly expressive use of line with ferocious social caricature. Out of his wartime experiences and his observations of chaotic postwar Germany grew a series of drawings savagely attacking militarism, war profiteering, the gulf between rich and poor, social decadence, and Nazism. In drawing collections such as The Face of the Ruling Class (1921) and Ecce Homo (1922), Grosz depicts fat Junkers, greedy capitalists, smug bourgeoisie, drinkers, and lechers—as well as hollow-faced factory labourers, the poor, and the unemployed. At this time Grosz belonged to the Berlin Dada art movement, having befriended the German Dadaist brothers Wieland Herzfelde and John Heartfield...

Jacques-Émile Blanche (1861 –1942)
The French artist, largely self-taught, Jacques-Émile Blanche, became a very successful portrait painter, active in London and Paris, with a style derived from 18th-century English painters such as Thomas Gainsborough as well as Édouard Manet and John Singer Sargent. He had the honor to exhibit at the Salon and the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. In 1902, Jacques-Émile Blanche took over the direction of the Académie de La Palette, where he would remain director until 1911.He taught at the Académie Vitti in 1903.

Sir Arthur John Gielgud (1904 – 2000)
Sir Arthur Gielgud was an English actor and theatre director whose career spanned eight decades. With Ralph Richardson and Laurence Olivier, he was one of the trinity of actors who dominated the British stage for much of the 20th century, famous for his voice and his mastery of Shakespearean verse. Regarded by many as the finest Hamlet of his era, and was also known for high comedy roles such as John Worthing in The Importance of Being Earnest.
During the 1930s Gielgud was a stage star in the West End and on Broadway, appearing in new works and classics. He began a parallel career as a director, and set up his own company at the Queen's Theatre, London. From the late 1960s he found new plays that suited him, by authors including Alan Bennett, David Storey and Harold Pinter.

Countess Anna Laetitia Pecci - Blunt (Rome, 1885 - Marlia, 1971)
Best-known as "Mimì" Pecci-Blunt , the Italian noblewoman was an art collector, patron and nephew of Pope Leo XIII. Extremely volcanic, she was very active in the cultural field, opening numerous lounges, galleries and theaters. In 1919 she married Cecil Blumenthal, later changed to Blunt, a wealthy Jewish banker from New York, heir to an important collection of nineteenth-century French painting. His Parisian and Roman salons was frequented by artists and intellectuals of the caliber of Salvador Dalì, Paul Valery, Poulenc, Paul Claudel...
