The painting process has been an evolving experience for me from the time I was very young and first started painting in oil until now. Each stage had to be experienced and has led to a deeper understanding of what my expression in paint is all about. Painting traditional realism with good design as an important element was where I began.
Now, the evolution of my painting process has brought me to a point in which the subject, the texture of the oil medium and the physical application of the brushstrokes have become profoundly intertwined. All are so necessary to the finished work that if one were to be taken away the work would be left incomplete.
My hope is that the synthesis of the subject, design, expressive brush strokes and the texture of the paint come together to create a work of art in which the viewer experiences all of these elements at once in a powerful statement on canvas.
“New Mexico is a land of earthy colors and textures. Rocks, dirt, twiggy plants, reds and ochres against blue grays, dry, wet, cold, hot, mostly hard and rough create a movement in visual and tactile rhythms that surround me. There are times when I am standing in the New Mexico landscape on a warm day when I want to lay down and embrace it. I can’t help but be madly in love with the textures of everything around me. I am drawn to the irresistible forces that seem to bring me closer to the earth. The more I experience these textural qualities of the land, the more I am compelled to use them to express what I want to say. “
Martha was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she attended Carlow University and received a degree in art and art education. Later she studied art at the Maryland Institute College of Art and the University of Southern California.
At the beginning of her career she worked as an art teacher and art department head in Maryland and California. After becoming a full-time artist she taught watercolor and oil painting workshops in the United States and abroad. After moving to Colorado she became a master instructor for a branch of the Art Students League in Colorado Springs and then set up her own classes in her studio where she presently teaches on a weekly basis.
She was director for many years of large adventure workshops combining painting and exploring. Some of these adventures include Ghost Ranch...

Rest on the Flight into Egypt - Attributed to Pieter Van Avont - 17th c. Flemish
Located in PARIS, FR
Rest during the Flight into Egypt - The Virgin and Child with St. John the Baptist and the angels in a Landscape.
Attributed to Pieter Van Avont (1600-1652)
17th century Antwerp School, circa 1630
Oil on oak panel,
Dimensions: h. 38 cm, w. 50 cm (14.96 in x 19.68 in)
Flemish style frame in ebonized and moulded wood
Framed: h. 56 cm, w. 68.5 cm (22.04 in. x 26.97 in.)
In the heart of a lush wooded landscape, the Virgin with Jesus rests in a green clearing accompanied by Saint John the Baptist and the cherubs. Seated to the left of the composition, the Virgin Mary holds the Child on her lap; the little Saint John the Baptist wearing the camel-skin tunic (his attribute) stands before Jesus to exchange a few caresses. On the right, the couple of cherubs are playing with the lamb of Saint John the Baptist, bringing a jovial character to the scene. A pair of gardening putti on the left pick flowers to bring bouquets to the Virgin and Jesus. Spring flowers such as tulips, daffodils and anemones that grow abundantly around them and enrich the composition with their shimmering colors. A lush rose bush blooms to the left of the figures offering delicate roses. (The rose is the flower associated with the Virgin Mary, who is the "mystical rose," the one that does not bear the "thorn of sin")
At the feet of the Virgin are bunches of grapes (symbol of the future passion of Christ) as well as apples (symbol of the original fall of Man but also of the Redemption in Christ) In the foreground we find a wicker basket filled in profusion with beautiful flowers and guinea pigs nibbling on the blades of grass. In a cleverly arranged disorder, these elements of the still life with their strong symbolic power accentuate the religious theme, but are also an opportunity for the artist to demonstrate his know-how in the still life genre that is gaining momentum in Antwerp. The landscape behind the figures consists of a large tree with a twisted trunk and a luminous opening to the horizon placed on the right. We see Saint Joseph arriving with a donkey, a small reminder from the artist that the composition is associated with the episode of Rest during the flight into Egypt.
The calm expanse of this bucolic forest opening onto the luminous distance, with its profusion of symbolic flowers and fruits, is particularly suited to this sacred scene. The theme of Jesus' sacrifice and his tragic fate is mitigated by cherubs who play with innocence and carelessness in the face of the fragility of life symbolized by cut flowers. The great mastery of the painter is manifested by the finesse of the drawing enhanced by the delicacy in the application of the brushstrokes bringing a multitude of details. The richness of the whole is exacerbated thanks to the choice of colours, this varied palette is an undeniable asset of our work.
The virtuosity of our artist lies in his versatility, as much concerned with the success of the landscape and flowers as with the modelling of his figures. The cherubs with their naked bodies are gracefully illuminated by warm colours with subtle shadows, while the still life is rendered with astonishing realism, both in the precision of the drawing and in the countless shades of the flowers.
There are several compositions similar to ours, of which below are the closest versions:
• Sale, Jean-Claude Anaf et Associés, Lyon, 08/02/1998, attributed to Pieter Van Avont, oil on panel, h. 48 cm, l. 71 cm (recorded on RKD n° 31451). Comment: identical composition, only St Joseph with the donkey is different)

provenance: private collection, England
condition: This painting is in excellent condition, with vivid colors and sharp details that show no signs of fading. The canvas is pristine, free from any damage or restoration work. The ornate frame is also in very good condition, with only minor wear consistent with age, adding to its character and authenticity. This piece is ready to be displayed and enjoyed, offering a touch of nostalgia and natural beauty to any space.
Les Parson has been a popular British Artist with a loyal following for nearly forty years. Despite having a personal interest in art, Parson never received any formal training. Born in Lancashire in 1945, he worked in London as a Computer Engineer until 1974. He then moved to Cornwall working as an installer of Radar, Sonar and Ship to Shore radio on small fishing boats.
In a chance meeting with local gallery owners in 1978, Parson was encouraged to expand his artistic skills and transform his hobby into a career. He therefore put aside his pencil sketching and watercolour paintings in lieu of the more permanent medium of oil on canvas and become a flourishing full-time artist.
As a professional artist, Les Parson has become renowned for his nostalgic paintings of rural landscapes featuring children at play. His work is internationally recognised, with many of his paintings published as prints. The paintings of Les Parson remain highly-sought after by both domestic and international collectors.

The Triumph of the Infant Bacchus, workshop of H. Van Balen, 16th c. Antwerp
By Hendrick van Balen
Located in PARIS, FR
The Triumph of the Infant Bacchus,
Workshop of Hendrick Van Balen (1575-1632)
Antwerp, c.1630
Oil on copper, h. 28 cm (11.02 in), w. 35 cm (13.78 in)
A large Roman 17th century golden painted frame
Framed: h. 52 cm (20.47 in.), w. 58 cm (22.83 in)
Our finely painted work depicts The Triumph of the Bacchus as a young boy and is one of the most popular mythological subjects in Antwerp at the beginning of the 17th century. Feasting, wine and fun are the themes that constantly appeal to the public.
Thus unfolds before our eyes on our painting the procession composed of nymphs, baccantes, fauns, satyrs and children, their bodies naked, partially covered with brightly coloured draperies that help to brighten up the parade. Playing various instruments, dancing and drinking, while carrying vases and poles adorned with grapevines, participants to the rhythm of a noisy brass band make their way to an ancient temple standing on the right. The exaggerated gestures convey to us the frenzy of the excited crowd.
The Child Bacchus follows the joyous procession, carried by satyrs and nymphs, crowned with ivy and joyfully raising a cup of wine. In the foreground, the drunken participants leave the procession, the children on the left and the group of bacchantes and satyrs on the right are resting among various objects scattered at their feet: cups, vases, ewers bear witness to the festivities in progress.
In the background, a hilly landscape stretches out on the horizon, a semblance of calm that contrasts with the bustle of the foreground.
The artist strives to multiply the many details, whether it be figures, costumes, flowers or vegetation, in order to demonstrate his know-how and the perfection of his execution.
The acidulous palette with fresh and varied colours is characteristic of Hendrick Van Balen's works.
There are several versions identical to ours with similar dimensions painted by Hendrick Van Balen and his workshop.

Canadian Snowboarder
Located in Boca Raton, FL
This is not one of McMackin's widely available reproductions. This is the actual oil painting of the Canadian Snowboarder. Arrives framed. One cannot appreciate this beautiful painting on a computer screen. In real life, it is fantastic.
Snowboarding is a recreational and competitive activity that involves descending a snow-covered surface while standing on a snowboard that is almost always attached to a rider's feet. It features in the Winter Olympic Games and Winter Paralympic Games.
Snowboarding was developed in the United States, inspired by skateboarding, sledding, surfing, and skiing. It became popular around the world, and was introduced as a Winter Olympic Sport at Nagano in 1991 and featured in the Winter Paralympics at Sochi in 2014.2 As of 2015, its popularity (as measured by equipment sales) in the United States peaked in 2007 and has been in a decline since.
The first snowboards were developed in 1965 when Sherman Poppen, an engineer in Muskegon, Michigan, invented a toy for his daughters by fastening two skis together and attaching a rope to one end so he would have some control as they stood on the board and glided downhill. Dubbed the "snurfer" (combining snow and surfer) by his wife Nancy, the toy proved so popular among his daughters' friends that Poppen licensed the idea to a manufacturer, Brunswick Corporation, that sold about a million snurfers over the next decade.5 And, in 1966 alone, over half a million snurfers were sold.
Modern snowboarding was pioneered by Tom Sims and Jake Burton Carpenter, who both contributed significant innovations and started influential companies. In February 1968, Poppen organized the first snurfing competition at a Michigan ski resort that attracted enthusiasts from all over the country.7 One of those early pioneers was Tom Sims, a devotee of skateboarding (a sport born in the 1950s when kids attached roller skate wheels to small boards that they steered by shifting their weight). In the 1960s, as an eighth grader in Haddonfield, New Jersey, Sims crafted a snowboard in his school shop class by gluing carpet to the top of a piece of wood and attaching aluminum sheeting to the bottom.8 He produced commercial snowboards in the mid-70s.9 Others experimented with board-on-snow configurations at this time, including Welsh skateboard enthusiasts Jon Roberts and Pete Matthews developed their own snowboards to use at their local dry ski slope.
Also during this same period, in 1977, Jake Burton Carpenter, a Vermont native who had enjoyed snurfing since the age of 14, impressed the crowd at a Michigan snurfing competition with bindings he had designed to secure his feet to the board. That same year, he founded Burton Snowboards in Londonderry, Vermont.12 The "snowboards" were made of wooden planks that were flexible and had water ski foot traps. Very few people picked up snowboarding because the price of the board was considered too high at $38 and were not allowed on many ski hills, but eventually Burton would become the biggest snowboarding company in the business.13 Burton's early designs for boards with bindings became the dominant features in snowboarding.
The first competitions to offer prize money were the National Snurfing Championship, held at Muskegon State Park in Muskegon, Michigan.14 In 1979, Jake Burton Carpenter came from Vermont to compete with a snowboard of his own design. There were protests about Jake entering with a non-snurfer board. Paul Graves, and others, advocated that Jake be allowed to race. A "modified" "Open" division was created and won by Jake as the sole entrant. That race was considered the first competition for snowboards and is the start of what became competitive snowboarding. Ken Kampenga, John Asmussen and Jim Trim placed first, second and third respectively in the Standard competition with best two combined times of 24.71, 25.02 and 25.41; and Jake Carpenter won prize money as the sole entrant in the "open" division with a time of 26.35.15 In 1980 the event moved to Pando Winter Sports Park near Grand Rapids, Michigan because of a lack of snow that year at the original venue.
In the early 1980s, Aleksey Ostatnigrosh and Alexei Melnikov, two Snurfers from the Soviet Union, patented design changes to the Snurfer to allow jumping by attaching a bungee cord, a single footed binding to the Snurfer tail, and a two-foot binding design for improved control.
As snowboarding became more popular in the 1970s and 1980s, pioneers such as Dimitrije Milovich (founder of Winterstick out of Salt Lake City, UT), Jake Burton Carpenter (founder of Burton Snowboards from Londonderry, Vermont), Tom Sims (founder of Sims Snowboards), David Kemper (founder of Kemper Snowboards) and Mike Olson...

"Nouveau Paysage" is an original oil on board painting that measures 48x48 inches and comes unframed. Gaugy uses his textured lines and vibrant colors of orange, black, white, and red in this contemporary painting to create a one-of-a-kind "new landscape". Located in Los Angeles, CA
Kathleen Keifer's original artworks represent one of the most significant expressions of New California Realism. Keifer brings a fresh perspective to her colorful scenes of everyday life in the sun along the Pacific coastline (and beyond). Her detailed paintings show us the breathtaking California scenery with its recognizable elements in a new light and with a keen eye for clever composition and layered colors. Her modern landscapes and sublime seascapes capture an impressive visceral visual.
This one-of-a-kind 24-inch high by 18-inch wide and 3/4-inches deep original artwork is a composition created with acrylic paint on canvas. It is stretched, wired, and ready to hang. The sides are painted as a continuation of the front and it does not require framing. It is signed by the artist on the front of the artwork. A certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery is included. Convenient local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and international shipping are available.
Kathleen Keifer is a California-based internationally collected artist. Her paintings invite the viewer to consider the complex relationship between time and timelessness. It is the sheer visual interaction between the elements, taken in their bare simplicity that interests her. Water, sky, and architecture change their appearance with the shifts in weather and light. Her broken brushstrokes depict light and color in luminous waves, dissolving form into a shimmering surface of vibrant light. For her, painting captures the very essence of time and its passage.
While painting landscapes she became fascinated with isolating the objects in her paintings. She believes that actual sites and places have individual magic. The goal is to take objects from popular culture and paint them in a new context. She began to paint the silhouette of the Life Guard Tower more as a pop art symbol than a landscape element. With a high level of technical virtuosity, Keifer creates a new sense of reality with textures and colors that seem to add lighting effects and distinct shadows, confronting the viewer with new interpretations of familiar objects.
Born and raised in Chicago, Kathleen Keifer is a second-generation artist. Her mother, also a fine artist, exposed Keifer to the world of art and supervised her training from a very early age. This legacy continues today as Keifer closely nurtures the development of the artistic leaning in each of her three daughters, inspiring a third generation of female artists. Her works are represented by Artspace Warehouse Los Angeles and have been exhibited and collected internationally, including Chicago, New York, and London.
Artspace Warehouse has been representing and exhibiting Kathleen Keifer's original artworks since 2017. The gallery has been a 1stdibs partner since 2014 with consistently excellent reviews from clients worldwide. The gallery exhibits a large selection of affordable original artworks from established and emerging international artists with diverse backgrounds at high standards. Artspace Warehouse is known to provide accurate descriptions, images, reliable services, communication, and delivery.
