Charles Henry Miller Impressionist Landscape Oil Painting
Located in New York, NY
Charles Henry Miller (American, 1842-1922) Untitled (New York Landscape), c. 1900 Oil on canvas laid on foam 6 1/8 x 10 5/8 in. Signed lower left: C.H.M. Charles Henry Miller was a noted artist and painter of landscapes from Long Island, New York. The American poet Bayard Taylor called him, "The artistic discoverer of the little continent of Long Island." Miller was educated at Mount Washington Collegiate Institute, and graduated in medicine at the New York Homeopathic Institute in 1864. Before his graduation, he had occasionally painted pictures, and in 1860 he exhibited The Challenge Accepted at the National Academy of Design, in New York City. He lived in Queens at the summer estate, Queenslawn, originally purchased by his parents. He went abroad in 1864 and again in 1867, and was a pupil in the Bavarian Royal Academy at Munich under the instruction of Adolf Lier. After the 1874 death of his father, Jacob Miller, who was a wealthy architect and builder, Miller received a large inheritance that allowed him to paint as an independent artist for the remainder of his long life. He worked seriously and exhibited regularly, including at international exhibitions. The majority of his oil paintings depict Long Island subjects, especially those in and around Queens Village. Fed up with the development of the eastern part of Queens (present-day Nassau County), he began to spend part of his summers in East Marion, Long Island, c. 1910. Here he spent his time sketching and painting the surrounding areas. In 1885 he published The Philosophy of Art in America, using the pseudonym Carl De Muldor (he was descended from the De Muldor family). His work was recognized: in 1873, he was elected an associate of the National Academy of Design and an academician in 1875. He served as president of the New York Art Club in 1879 and of the American Committee at the Munich International Exposition in 1883. Legacy and honors • In 1910 Miller founded the Queens Borough Allied Arts & Crafts Society. • A New York City public school, Queens P.S. 33, was once named for him. • 1878, gold medal awarded by the Massachusetts Charitable Association • 1885, gold medal at the World's Exposition in New Orleans. Following is a list, which includes many of his known exhibitions: • National Academy of Design, New York, NY, 1860-61, 1865-67, 1870-1921 • Brooklyn Art Association, Brooklyn, NY, 1872-84, 1891-92 • Artist's Fund Society, New York, NY, 1874 (exhibition & sale), 1886 (exhibition & sale) • Century Association, New York, NY, (1874-1917) • Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition, Philadelphia, PA, 1876 (prize) • Society of American Artists, New York, NY, (1878-1882) • Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic Association, Boston, MA, 1878 (prize) • Paris International Exposition, Paris, France, 1878, 1889 • American Water Color Society Exhibition, New York, NY, 1879 • Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia , PA, 1879-99 • Boston Art Club, Boston, MA, 1880-1907 (prize) • Union League Club, New York, NY, 1880 • Lotos Club, New York, NY, 1880, 1896, 1899-1900, 1906 • Salons of Paris, Paris, France, 1882 • International Exhibition, Munich, Germany, 1883 (president & exhibitor) • New Orleans Exposition, New Orleans, LA, 1885 (prize) • Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL, 1888-89, 1891, 1894-98, 1904 • Fifth Avenue Art Gallery, New York, NY, 1889 (exhibition & sale) • World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, IL, 1892 • Frederick A. OYV-19 - Contemporary Abstract Collage Painting- Yellow, measuring tape
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
OYV-19 is part of Eric Mack's ongoing body of work utilizing multi-media, complex compositions, and a grid centered around urban design. Using a grid to create the framework of the painting, Mack has re-purposed an old Lenny Kravitz album cover as the structure of the piece. On the edges of the piece you can see a complex edge consisting of a faux leather album cover, nylon mesh, and torn paper. As imagery, Mack has chosen musical notes, tape measure, and other music composition elements through Zerox copy adhered by matte medium to the surface. Mack then creates his own color to further tweak and personalize the piece. Eric Mack (b.1976, Charleston) creates mathematically based renderings with a distinct post-modern twist. Works are informed with super imposed grids, patterns, and portals. Layered surfaces are created with paint, found objects, natural fibers, and synthetic substrates that explore the systems of our visual world. His most recent show “Charting the Terrain” is on view now at the California African American Museum in Los Angeles was covered by the Los Angeles Times, KCRW, and LALA Magazine. His last solo exhibition was titled "Impossible Architectures" at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2017. Recent group shows include "Abstract Mind" at the Czong Institute of Contemporary Art, South Korea, "Small Works 2017 at Trestle Gallery, Brooklyn, "Checkered History", Outpost Artist Resources, Brooklyn, N.Y. 2015; Collections include High Museum Atlanta, Ing Investments, Hartsfield Jackson International Airport - Atlanta + Atlanta Gas & Light Co. "New England Farm, " Landscape Oil Painting
Located in Westport, CT
This large landscape oil painting by John Traynor captures a scene in New England. Cows are visible in front of a long picket fence, with a red barn and house behind the fence and lush green trees on either side and along the hills in the horizon. Fluffy, almost abstracted clouds sit above the hills, with a patch of blue skies shining through toward the top of the image. The painting is 48" x 72", and 58" x 82" framed. It is professionally framed in a classic, antiqued, gold leaf frame. It is signed by the artist in the bottom right-hand corner of the canvas, and is wired and ready to hang. John C. Traynor's painting style is reminiscent of some 19th century painters and the Dutch Masters. He uses his knowledge of light and color to create a certain mood in each of his works. The creation of atmosphere is an important element in Traynor's paintings. Painting outdoors, on location, is a prime source of inspiration and ideas for his landscapes. John travels extensively, painting the landscapes around him. John was born in 1961 and spent his early years in Chester and Mendham, New Jersey. His art studies began at Delbarton School in Morristown, New Jersey, and from there he furthered his education at Paier College of Art in New Haven, Connecticut. He studied figure painting at the Art Students League of New York, as a merit scholar, with Frank Mason. Traynor continued his studies in Vermont with Mr. Mason on landscape painting, drawing with Carroll N. Jones Jr. of Stowe, Vermont and sculpture with Brother Jerome Cox...

David Jang strives to transform the detritus of urban life into minimalist paintings of formal elegance, both gritty and sublime. He hopes to inspire others to discover art as a necessity to the human condition, not a luxury. David Jang’s work utilizes materials and object-making to articulate the countervailing forces inherent in the everyday; expansion and contraction, perfection and imperfection, force and balance, have and have not. This large 60 by 60" square artwork is wired and ready to hang. Jang created this original artwork using melted foam cups on canvas. The sides of the artwork are white, and it does not require framing. A certificate of authenticity and hanging hardware are included. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable global shipping is available. David Jang was born in Seoul, Korea in 1975 and received his BFA from the College of Visual Arts, St. Paul, Minnesota, where he studied sculpture and painting. He lives in Los Angeles and is represented by Artspace Warehouse, Los Angeles. His artworks have been exhibited and collected worldwide. Jang’s process can be described as an exacting, fanciful, even obsessive re-appropriation of common materials—one in which he deconstructs, reprograms and reconstitutes industrial and commercial cast-offs to reveal new relationships between the object and the viewer. Most people know the media he uses in their ubiquitous forms—as a potato chip bag, a remote control, plastic jar, Styrofoam cup, coiled wire, light bulbs, et cetera—but coded also into each of these objects (and the materials from which they are composed) are its life’s instructions. David Jang describes his process: “As I examine the continuum of the objects, I begin to discover the hidden subtexts and hierarchies these objects uphold—the social orders they sustain or subvert and the relationships they facilitate or fail. I attempt to foster a self-revelatory creative process, one that is empirical yet open-ended. In this way my work results, not in forced conversation, but in quasi-scientific discovery.” EDUCATION 1999 BFA, College of Visual Arts, St. Paul, Minnesota SOLO EXHIBITIONS 2016 LAX Airport, Los Angeles, CA Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong Sandra Lee Gallery, San Francisco, CA Affordable Art Fair New York, NY Gallery on Wade, Toronto, Canada 2015 Kellogg University Art Gallery, Pomona, CA TUB Gallery, Miami, FL 2014 Locust Projects, Miami, FL Los Angeles Art Fair - Gallery 825, CA 2013 Gallery 825 (LAAA), Los Angeles, CA Sandra Lee Gallery, San Francisco, CA Downtown Art Center Gallery, Los Angeles, CA 2012 Gallery 825 (LAAA), Los Angeles, CA Palos Verdes Art Center, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 2011 Art Platform LA, Los Angeles, CA Sandra Lee Gallery, San Francisco, CA Lois Lambert Gallery, Santa Monica, CA Downtown Art Center Gallery, Los Angeles, CA Gallery OMS, Fort Lee, NJ 2010 Gallery 825 (LAAA), Los Angeles, CA Brand Library & Art Center , Glendale, CA 2009 Sandra Lee Gallery, San Francisco, CA Downtown Art Center Gallery, Los Angeles, CA IT Gallery, Los Angeles, CA 2008 FT Art Gallery, Los Angeles, CA 2002 ED Gallery, Still Water, MN 2001 YY Gallery, Edina, MN 2000 Hilton Hotel, Minneapolis, MN 1999 Ford Centre Gallery, Minneapolis, MN GROUP EXHIBITIONS 2016 Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong Affordable Art Fair New York, NY Palm Springs Fine Art Fair, CA 2015 Shane-show Gallery, Beijing, China Seongbuk Cultural Foundation, Seoul, Korea Glendale Central Library, Glendale, CA Cheryl Hazan Contemporary Art, New York, NY Locust Projects, Miami, FL Affordable Art Fair New York, NY Palm Springs Fine Art Fair, CA Space in Arts, New York, NY LA Art Show, Los Angeles, CA 2014 Affordable Art Fair Hamburg, Germany Affordable Art Fair Amsterdam, Netherlands Art Toronto (Fine Art Fair), Canada Houston Fine Art Fair, TX Artspace Warehouse, Los Angeles, CA TUB Gallery, Miami, FL Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, Los Angeles, CA Love Art Fair Toronto, Canada AAF New York, NY 2013 Affordable Art Fair Seattle, WA Laguna Art Museum, Laguna Beach, CA Gallery Y, Los Angeles, CA 2012 Artspace Warehouse, Los Angeles, CA Locust Projects, Miami, FL Lois Lambert Gallery, Santa Monica, CA Los Angeles Art Association, Los Angeles, CA Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA ZASK Gallery, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 2011 Municipal Art Gallery, Los Angeles, CA Coastline Art...
