She applied aluminum leaf on this work to create a perspective in the background. Maki combines the Japanese landscape painting technique with the Chinese one thus her landscape work is unique in its own way. White Crow is the bird of fortune and peace in the Japanese culture. On the bottom right, shadows of another mascot, coyote, can be seen. Coyote is one of Maki's favorite icons which can be found in many of her landscape paintings.
