A moment in time In 2021, a gallery from Brussels contacted us. There, a photographic collection had been kept in tin boxes for decades, consisting of 6x6 glass slides in color. The collection shows the worldwide travels of a then presumably very wealthy family from Belgium and was created in the 1950s and 1960s. The name of the creator of these works is unknown. We purchased the collection and are carefully curating the holdings to find outstanding period photographs within for high quality limited edition prints and large formats - for rooms made for people, with windows into the past. The print is new, limited to a maximum of 50 copies, created on Hahnemühle FineArt Pearl. To keep shipping costs low, the work comes to you rolled in a special box.

An accomplished photojournalist with more than 50 years of experience, Ted Spiegel has covered assignments across the globe, but like the 19th-century artists of the famed Hudson River School, he's made the Hudson River Valley the focus of much of his life's work. Spiegel's love of the landscape and positive attitude infuse all his images. His January 1978 assignment for National Geographic magazine was a color photo essay on the Hudson River Valley. He has produced 15 other photo essays for National Geographic magazine on a variety of subjects, and has also produced several picture books on such topics as the Hudson River Valley, Saratoga and West Point. He also did a celebrated series of photos of John F Kennedy one of which was selected for the JFK USA postal stamp. Speigel’s biography on the National Geographic website espouses his zest for his home: “He’s covered assignments across the globe, but like the 19th-century artists of the famed Hudson River School, he’s made the Hudson River Valley the focus of much of his life’s work.” It also notes that he uses photography as a medium to encourage appreciation and respect for the environment’s beauty: “Spiegel’s love of the landscape and positive attitude infuse all his images, [and he] sees his landscape photography as a way to make people aware of the beauty in nature and a way to, in turn, encourage people to help protect and save the environment.” Photographers, like seeds in a rich environment, take root, grow and prosper. Samuel Herman Gottscho (February 8, 1875 - January 28, 1971) was an American architectural, landscape, and nature photographer. Samuel Gottscho was born in Brooklyn in New York City. He acquired his first camera in 1896 and took his first photograph at Coney Island. From 1896 to 1920 he photographed part-time, specializing in houses and gardens, as he particularly enjoyed nature, rural life, and landscapes. After attending several architectural photograph exhibitions, Gottscho decided to perfect and improve his own work and sought out several architects and landscape architects. After twenty-three years as a traveling lace and fabric salesman, at an age when most people would have given up their youthful dreams, Gottscho became a professional commercial photographer at the age of 50. His son-in-law William Schleisner joined Gottscho in his business in 1935. During this time his photographs appeared in and on the covers of American Architect and Architecture, Architectural Record. His portraits and architectural photography regularly appeared in articles in the New York Times. His photographs of private homes in the New York and Connecticut suburbs often appeared in home decoration magazines.
