Pablo Picasso, Guitarist, from Oeuvres 1920-1926 (after)
Located in Southampton, NY
This exquisite lithograph and pochoir after Pablo Picasso (1881–1973), titled Guitariste (Guitarist), from the album, Picasso, Oeuvres 1920-1926, 1926, originates from the 1926 edition published and printed by Editions des Cahiers d'Art, Paris, under the direction of Christian Zervos, Editeur, Paris, December 10, 1926. Guitariste (Guitarist) captures Picasso’s evolving exploration of form, movement, and emotion during the mid-1920s—a pivotal period in which he redefined the relationship between classical representation and modern abstraction. With its bold contouring, stylized anatomy, and rhythmic color balance, the composition embodies the harmony between structural precision and sensual fluidity that characterized Picasso’s work in this era. Executed as a lithograph and pochoir on velin paper, this work measures 11 x 8.75 inches. Signed in the plate and unnumbered as issued. The edition exemplifies the refined craftsmanship of Editions des Cahiers d'Art and the technical excellence of Parisian printmaking in the interwar period. Artwork Details: Artist: After Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) Title: Guitariste (Guitarist), from the album, Picasso, Oeuvres 1920-1926, 1926 Medium: Lithograph and pochoir on velin paper Dimensions: 11 x 8.75 inches (27.94 x 22.23 cm) Inscription: Signed in the plate and unnumbered as issued Date: 1926 Publisher: Editions des Cahiers d'Art, Paris, under the direction of Christian Zervos, Editeur, Paris Printer: Ducros & Colas, Paris Catalogue raisonne references: Cramer, Patrick. About the Publication: The album Picasso, Oeuvres 1920-1926 was issued in 1926 by Editions des Cahiers d'Art under the direction of Christian Zervos, one of the most influential editors, critics, and publishers of 20th-century modernism. Conceived as both a visual and intellectual tribute to Pablo Picasso’s mastery during a crucial transitional period, the volume presents a series of lithographs and pochoirs that chronicle his stylistic evolution from synthetic Cubism toward a renewed engagement with the human figure. Published in conjunction with the legendary Cahiers d'Art journal, the edition reflects Zervos’s vision of uniting scholarship, craftsmanship, and artistic authenticity in the modern book arts. Each composition was executed by the master printers Ducros & Colas and colored using the pochoir technique, faithfully translating the tonal subtleties and compositional balance of Picasso’s original drawings and gouaches. Completed on December 10, 1926, the edition comprised DCC examples—VI on Japon Imperial, L on Hollande Van Gelder, and DCXL on velin paper, plus II copies reserved for legal deposit—each numbered and printed to exacting standards. The volume stands as one of the earliest major Cahiers d'Art collaborations with Picasso, preceding the monumental Catalogue Raisonne des Oeuvres de Picasso that Zervos would later dedicate his life to producing. Today, Picasso, Oeuvres 1920-1926 remains a cornerstone of interwar art publishing, representing the confluence of avant-garde innovation, technical excellence, and intellectual rigor that defined the Parisian art world of the 1920s. About the Artist: Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, and ceramicist whose extraordinary vision revolutionized modern art and defined the visual language of the 20th century. A child prodigy from Malaga, Spain, Picasso's career spanned more than seven decades and encompassed an astonishing range of styles and innovations—from the melancholic Blue and romantic Rose periods to his pioneering invention of Cubism with Georges Braque, which shattered conventional notions of perspective and form. Influenced by the bold expressiveness of El Greco, the structure of Cezanne, and the vitality of African and Iberian sculpture, Picasso became a central figure of the Paris avant-garde, working in creative dialogue with contemporaries such as Henri Matisse, Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, Salvador Dali, Joan Miro, Wassily Kandinsky, Marcel Duchamp, and Man Ray. His insatiable experimentation extended across painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture, forever expanding the boundaries of artistic expression. A master of reinvention, Picasso profoundly shaped generations of artists who followed—from Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, and Jean-Michel Basquiat to Jeff Koons and Banksy—cementing his status as a timeless cultural icon whose works remain among the most sought after worldwide. His landmark painting Les Femmes d'Alger (Version O) achieved a record-breaking sale of 179,365,000 USD at Christie's, New York, on May 11, 2015, affirming Picasso's enduring legacy as one of the most influential and valuable artists in history. It has been completed to print, March 25, 1951 on the presses of Mourlot Freres and Georges Duval, maitre imprimeur, in Paris. The typography is from L'Imprimerie Union. About the Publication: Les Lithographies de Renoir (The Lithographs of Renoir), published in Monte-Carlo in 1951 under the direction of Andre Sauret in collaboration with Fernand Mourlot, stands among the most elegant postwar tributes to Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s artistic legacy. Conceived as part of the distinguished series of fine art albums issued by Editions du livre, the publication united leading masters of lithography to honor Renoir’s enduring influence on modern art. Printed on grand velin Renage filigrane a la marque de l'editeur by the ateliers of Mourlot Freres and Georges Duval, the album combined technical precision with scholarly presentation, showcasing interpretive plates rendered with exceptional fidelity and tonal refinement. It embodies the collaborative spirit between printer, publisher, and artist that characterized the golden age of French art editions, joining other monumental projects such as those devoted to Matisse, Chagall, Braque, and Picasso. A hallmark of twentieth-century art publishing, Les Lithographies de Renoir preserves the warmth and radiance of Renoir’s aesthetic through the masterful lithographic techniques that made Mourlot Freres synonymous with excellence in fine art printing. About the Artist: Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841–1919) was one of the most influential and beloved artists in the history of modern art, a French Impressionist master whose radiant color harmonies, sensual brushwork, and joyful depictions of life helped transform the course of painting. Born in Limoges, France, into a modest family, Renoir began his career as a porcelain painter before studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and joining the avant-garde circle of Claude Monet, Alfred Sisley, and Frederic Bazille. Together they pioneered plein-air painting, capturing fleeting light and atmosphere with revolutionary immediacy. Renoir’s early works, such as La Loge (1874) and Bal du moulin de la Galette (1876), embody the luminous vitality of Impressionism, while his later period, influenced by the classical mastery of Raphael, Ingres, and Rubens, brought greater structure and sensuality to his figures. His art evolved into a vision of timeless beauty expressed through color, form, and emotion, celebrating humanity and intimacy with unmatched tenderness. Even when afflicted by severe rheumatoid arthritis, Renoir continued to paint daily, his hands bound with cloth, and collaborated with sculptor Richard Guino to translate his soft, fluid touch into bronze. His influence radiated across generations—Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, Salvador Dali, Joan Miro, Wassily Kandinsky, Marcel Duchamp, and Man Ray all drew inspiration from his dedication to expressive color and emotional depth. His sensual palette profoundly impacted Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, Raoul Dufy, and Andre Derain, while later artists such as Marc Chagall and Balthus inherited his lyrical humanism and poetic approach to beauty. Renoir’s art, often described as a hymn to joy, found universality in its warmth, intimacy, and reverence for life’s everyday grace. Today, his works hang in major museums worldwide, including the Musee d’Orsay, the Louvre, the National Gallery, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago, continuing to inspire collectors and artists alike. The highest auction record for Pierre-Auguste Renoir was achieved with Bal du moulin de la Galette (1876), which sold for $78.1 million USD at Sotheby’s, New York, on May 17, 1990, securing his enduring legacy as one of the greatest masters of Impressionism and one of the most cherished figures in art history. Conversation
Located in San Francisco, CA
This artwork titled "Conversation" 1988 is a color lithograph on Arches paper by noted Italian/Argentinian artist Aldo Luongo, b.1941. It is hand signed and numbered 103/275 in pencil by the artist. The image size is 20 x 25 inches, sheet size is 25 x 29 inches. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: Aldo Luongo was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, of Italian heritage. Since as far back as he can remember, Luongo had two great passions: art and soccer. Shortly after his graduation from the Academy of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, Luongo came to the U.S. to play professional soccer for the New York Generals. After his athletic career was cut short due to an injury, he arrived in New York City with a dream to pursue his artwork full time. In the 70’s, he had his first major success with multiple reproductions of his black & white drawings. Not only were these prints released to great critical acclaim, they were a huge commercial success as well (hundreds of thousands of pieces sold within several years). Aldo had put himself on the map as a major international artist. Aldo Luongo has continued his reign at the top of the contemporary art world for almost four decades – a distinction that puts him in a class of his own. He has received numerous awards and honors, including being named a 3-time official Olympic Artist (Summer 1988, Summer 1996, and Winter 2002); an official World Cup Artist (1998); an official U.S. Women’s World Cup Artist (1999); and the 1999 Sports Artist of the Year (U.S. Sports Museum). He also has twice been chosen to paint eggs for the White House Easter Egg Hunt which now reside in the Smithsonian Institute.
