Marc Chagall, Couple Before the Tree, from The Lithographs of Chagall, 1960
Located in Southampton, NY
This exquisite lithograph by Marc Chagall (1887–1985), titled Couple Devant L’arbre (Couple Before the Tree), from the album The Lithographs of Chagall, Volume I, originates from the 1960 edition published by Andre Sauret, Editeur, Monte Carlo, and George Braziller, Editeur, New York, and printed by Mourlot Freres, Paris, October 1960. This lyrical composition reflects Chagall’s enduring themes of love, nature, and spiritual harmony. Couple Devant L’arbre portrays two lovers standing tenderly before a radiant tree—a symbol of life, unity, and divine connection. Bathed in Chagall’s signature palette of luminous blues, greens, and reds, the figures appear suspended between dream and reality, evoking both earthly affection and cosmic transcendence. The work captures the artist’s unique ability to merge personal intimacy with universal emotion, transforming a simple moment of devotion into an emblem of timeless love and renewal. Executed as a lithograph on velin paper, this work measures 12.216 x 9.875 inches (31.03 x 25.08 cm). Unsigned and unnumbered as issued. The edition exemplifies the exceptional craftsmanship of the Mourlot Freres atelier, renowned for its close collaboration with Chagall and its technical perfection in fine art lithography. Artwork Details: Artist: Marc Chagall (1887–1985) Title: Couple Devant L’arbre (Couple Before the Tree), from The Lithographs of Chagall, Volume I, 1960 Medium: Lithograph on velin paper Dimensions: 12.216 x 9.875 inches (31.03 x 25.08 cm) Inscription: Unsigned and unnumbered as issued Date: 1960 Publisher: Andre Sauret, Editeur, Monte Carlo, and George Braziller, Editeur, New York Printer: Mourlot Freres, Paris Catalogue raisonne references: Cain, Julien, and Fernand Mourlot. Condition: Well preserved, consistent with age and medium Provenance: From the album The Lithographs of Chagall, Volume I, published by Andre Sauret, Editeur, Monte Carlo, and George Braziller, Editeur, New York, 1960 Notes: From the album, The Lithographs of Chagall, Volume I, 1960. Published by Andre Sauret, Editeur, Monte Carlo, and George Braziller, Editeur, New York; printed by Mourlot Freres, Paris, October 1960. Excerpted from the album, This album, which was designed and compiled by Fernand Mourlot and Andre Sauret, was finished in October 1960. The reproductions were printed on the presses of Draeger Freres, and the original lithographs on the presses of Mourlot Freres. The Imprimerie Nationale de France is responsible for the typography. There exists a special edition, in French, of this album composed of C examples on velin d'Arches numbered from I to C, and including two original lithographs, in a limited edition of C copies, numbered and signed by the artist, and a series, with margins, of the XII original lithographs contained in this album. About the Publication: The Lithographs of Chagall, Volume I, published in 1960 by Andre Sauret, Monte Carlo, and George Braziller, New York, marks the beginning of a monumental five-volume catalogue project chronicling Marc Chagall’s prolific achievements in lithography. Conceived and supervised by Fernand Mourlot—Chagall’s long-time printer and collaborator—the series celebrates the technical brilliance and emotional depth of Chagall’s printmaking. Volume I features twelve original lithographs alongside meticulously printed works that trace the evolution of Chagall’s imagery from the 1920s through the 1950s. The publication exemplifies the partnership between artist, printer, and publisher that defined mid-century fine art printing in France, uniting precision craftsmanship with poetic expression. Through its themes of love, faith, and nature, this volume encapsulates Chagall’s world—a visionary synthesis of the earthly and the divine. The Lithographs of Chagall series remains one of the most significant undertakings in modern printmaking, a testament to both Chagall’s imagination and Mourlot’s unmatched mastery of the lithographic process. About the Artist: Marc Chagall (1887–1985) was a Belarus-born French painter, printmaker, and designer whose visionary imagination, radiant color, and deeply poetic symbolism made him one of the most beloved and influential artists of the 20th century. Rooted in the imagery of his Jewish heritage and the memories of his childhood in Vitebsk, Chagall’s art wove together themes of faith, love, folklore, and fantasy with a dreamlike modern sensibility. His unique style—merging elements of Cubism, Fauvism, Expressionism, and Surrealism—defied categorization, transforming ordinary scenes into lyrical meditations on memory and emotion. Influenced by Russian icon painting, medieval religious art, and the modern innovations of artists such as Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Georges Braque, Chagall developed a profoundly personal visual language filled with floating figures, vibrant animals, musicians, and lovers that symbolized the transcendent power of imagination and love. During his early years in Paris, he became an integral part of the Ecole de Paris circle, forming friendships with Amedeo Modigliani, Fernand Leger, and Sonia Delaunay, and his creative spirit resonated with that of his peers and successors—Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, Salvador Dali, Joan Miro, Wassily Kandinsky, Marcel Duchamp, and Man Ray—artists who, like Chagall, sought to push the boundaries of perception, emotion, and form. Over a prolific career that spanned painting, printmaking, stained glass, ceramics, and stage design, Chagall brought an unparalleled poetic sensibility to modern art, infusing even the most abstract subjects with human warmth and spiritual depth. His works are held in the most prestigious museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Centre Pompidou, the Tate, and the Guggenheim, where they continue to inspire generations of artists and collectors. The highest price ever paid for a Marc Chagall artwork is approximately $28.5 million USD, achieved in 2017 at Sotheby’s New York for Les Amoureux (1928). Marc Chagall Couple...

Orchid, gorgeous signed/n silkscreen by renowned 1970s realist artist
Located in New York, NY
Lowell Nesbitt Orchid, 1979 Silkscreen on wove paper Pencil signed, dated and numbered 144/175 by Lowell Nesbitt on the front Published by Charles Cardinale Fine Creations, Inc., with blind stamp on the front 25 × 25 inches Unframed This work is pencil signed, dated and numbered 144/175 by Lowell Nesbitt on the front. About Lowell Nesbitt. Lowell Nesbitt, who was born in Baltimore on Oct. 4, 1933, was a graduate of the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia and also attended the Royal College of Art in London, where he worked in stained glass & etching. In 1964, the Corcoran Gallery or Art in Washington gave him one of his first museum exhibitions, and by the mid 1970's he had decided to leave the museum a bequest of more than $1 million. But in 1989, he publicly revoked the bequest after the Corcoran canceled a disputed exhibition of photographs by Robert Mapplethorpe, who was an old friend. Mr. Nesbitt named the Phillips Collection as a beneficiary instead. He was frequently grouped with the Photo Realists, but his images were more interpretively distorted, somewhat loosely painted and boldly abbreviated. He had many subjects: studio interiors, articles of clothing, piles of shoes and groupings of fruits and vegetables. He also painted his dog, a Rottweiler named Echo, the Neoclassical facades of SoHo's 19th century cast-iron buildings and several of Manhattan's major bridges. Despite such variety, Lowell Nesbitt was best known for gargantuan images or irises, roses, lilies and other flowers, which he often depicted in close up so that their petals seemed to fill the canvas. Dramatic, implicitly sexual and a little ominous, they earned the artist a popularity with the general public that tended to overshadow his reputation within the art world. In 1980, the United States Postal Service issued four stamps based on Mr. Nesbitt's floral paintings. He also served as the official artist for the space flights of Apollo 9...

This artwork titled "Strawberies" c.1985, published 1996 is a color off set lithograph by British/American artist Pati Bannister, 1929-2013. It is hand signed, titled and numbered 656/950 in pencil by the artist. Published by Masters Publishing INC, New York. The image size is 16.5 x 21 inches, sheet size is 22.25 x 26 inches. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: Pati Bannister was born in Highgate, England, overlooking London in 1929. Growing up, both of her parents were artists. Arthur Rank, the movie maker, as an animator. At 22 years old, she came to the United States as a governess for a family in Connecticut. Later she became a flight attendant in Florida where she met her future husband, Glynn. Little did she know, he would become the strongest influence in her life as he inspired her to pursue and share her artistic abilities with the public. In 1958, Pati and Glynn moved to New Orleans and she started painting portraits in Jackson Square. Eventually, she opened two art galleries located in the French Quarter. In the late 1960's, they moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast...
