Rare Rene Vincent automobile poster. Black and white posters are a rarity as far as vintage posters are concerned. The original idea was to catch the attention of passersby in every possible way. Color was an essential tool in advertising when posters were an essential source for name-brand recognition. The absence of color gives these auto posters a touch of class. They can also be compared to old photographs. Either way, you're looking at something special.
This one is incredibly cool since it came from the talented artist Rene Vincent. If his name doesn't ring a bell, his poster "Porto Ramos" probably will if you look it up on our site. You will find that he also created automobile posters as early as 1905, which are all extremely rare and hard to find. Don’t let this excellent-condition vintage poster pass you by.
Vincent only got to devote a little time to posters once he was in his forties, after working for many years in various publications--mainly humor and fashion magazines--and in decorative design. My Obey “Bad Reputation” print is inspired by music graphics, especially punk and new wave album sleeves, t-shirts, and flyers. I love the Xerox machine with spot color approach to a lot of those graphics that married the rough and crude side of financial and artistic limitations with an intuitive and clever ability to craft subversive, eye-catching images. Some of the edges of this imagery and text are intentionally rough and imperfect… if slick and clean are your bag, you might want to skip this one baby! This stunning 1932 original bullfighting poster by the celebrated Spanish painter Carlos Ruano Llopis (1878–1950) was created for the summer season (Verano de 1932) at the new Plaza de Toros of San Sebastián. Known for his evocative, elegant depictions of Spanish cultural life, Ruano Llopis here captures the grandeur and festivity of the corrida.
The composition foregrounds a poised woman in an orange dress with a traditional black embroidered shawl, seated serenely amid blooming roses as matadors prepare in the background. Her confident gaze draws the viewer into the scene, evoking the atmosphere of Spanish bullrings and the rituals surrounding them. The typography announces “Seis Grandes Corridas de Toros, de Abono”, listing star matadors of the time such as Vicente Barrera, José Mejías (Bienvenida), and Domingo Ortega.
Ruano Llopis, a master of costumbrismo and bullfighting art, created numerous posters that became icons of Spanish visual culture. His rich painterly style blends realism and theatricality, immortalising flamenco dancers, toreros, and spectators with expressive brushwork and luminous colour.
