Nando Kallweit is a German sculptor working in bronze and oak. Kallweit carves the original piece from a piece of oak using a chainsaw. The oak marque is then used to create a cavity in clay and sand into which the bronze is poured. The resultant bronze is particularly organic and tactile. This an unusual bronze approached in its aesthetic that’s reminiscent of the work of great animal sculptors of the second half of the 19th century except in this presentation which is more avant-garde for the time with a much looser, more impressionistic execution.
