The first pottery factory here was set up in 1842 by industrialist Maurice Comptet. He bought a bit of production organization to an artisanal craft, enabling mass production of tiles, pots and architectural ornaments. An Exquisite bronze figural pairing of two putti with butterfly wings. One putti holds a bow, while his counterpart cowers behind him. The figural grouping and pose is base off of a painting by William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1925 - 1905), a french academic painter who created realistic genre paintings of modernized mythological scenes.
Itasse studied under Belloc and Jacquot and exhibited at the Salon from 1864 to 1893. The artist worked on multiple public commissions for the Louvre (Retour de la Chasse), l Opera (Philidor, Puccini, Cambert), the Trocadero Palace (L Astronomie) and Hotel de Ville de Paris.
He specialized in busts, portrait reliefs of contemporary personalities, also sculpting a number of genre and allegorical works, such as The Kiss, The Birth of Love, Astronomy and Science.
Amongst other awards he won a medal at the 1875 Salon and an honorable mention at the Universal Exhibition of 1889.

Here for your consideration is a beautiful highly detailed bronze done in the forth quarter of the nineteen century after the work of Jean Boulogne, known as Giambologna. Boulogne’s sculpture was done in marble and was completed between 1579 and 1583. The sculptor of this bronze is Antonin Mercie, a well known French sculptor born in 1845. The bronze represents the Rape of the Sabine Women (Latin: Sabinae raptae), also known as the Abduction of the Sabine Women or the Kidnapping of the Sabine Women, was an incident in Roman mythology in which the men of Rome committed a mass abduction of young women from the other cities in the region. It has been a frequent subject of artists and sculptors, particularly during the Renaissance and post-Renaissance eras. Signed on base “Mercie” for Antonin Mercie.. - Base with old drilling and a few oxidized areas, patina occasionally rubbed, somewhat stained in the folds.
- Full of anticipation -
This bronze is the larger, highly detailed version of the fisherman that made Parisian artist Adolphe Jean Lavergne famous. In preparation for fishing, the boy prepares his rod before heading out to sea. The attachment of the iron ring and the rope behind him suggest a quay wall and a boat moored there. However, the depiction is entirely focused on the actual action of the young fisherman: With equal skill and concentration, he bends a hook to connect it to the fishing line. The contrast with his casual clothing, the loose-fitting trousers, the open shirt with its "wild" folds, and, last but not least, the sun hat boldly perched on his neck, reinforces the impression of the attentive care with which he goes about his work. His gaze makes him appear absorbed, as if he has forgotten the world around him and yet he is visibly filled with anticipation of fishing.
