Created in 1959, Pablo Picasso (Málaga, 1881 – Mougins, 1973) Paseo A.R. 416 is numbered from the edition of 50 on the reverse and stamped with the 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and ‘EMPREINTE ORIGINALE DE PICASSO' pottery stamps on the reverse. Pablo Picasso was an avid fan of bullfighting his entire life, attending his first corridas when he was a child in Spain and gaining a renewed interest in the events when he settled in the South of France after World War II. Undoubtedly the theatrical drama and flashy machismo of the matadors appealed greatly to Picasso's sensibilities and resonated with his Spanish roots. In 1959, Picasso produced an 8-piece plate series, each featuring a different bullfighting scene suggested through lively stipple lines. Paseo A.R. 416 depicts a line of bullfighters highlighted by a streak of yellow. The strokes of blue above and below the figures contrast with the warm of the yellow, creating visual tension that anticipates the drama of the fight. Judith Brown, American "Reveler" Steel sculpture of a body in motion, dancer Signed with initials Initialed "JB" Base: 11" X 6" X 1.75" Sculpture: 16" X 10" X 10" Judith Brown (December 17, 1931 – May 11, 1992) was an American dancer and a woman AbEx sculptor who was drawn to images of the body in motion and its effect on the cloth surrounding it. She welded crushed automobile scrap metal into energetic moving torsos, horses, and flying draperies. "One of the things that made Judy stand out as an artist was her ability to work in many different mediums. Some of this was by choice, and sometimes it was by necessity. Her surroundings often dictated what medium she could work with at any given time. After all, you can't bring you're welding gear with you to Rome ."Brown attended Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers, New York (B.A., 1954), where she learned to weld from her teacher, Theodore Roszak, a pioneering abstract expressionist sculptor. Her style similar to Leonard Baskin and John Chamberlain. Figurative abstract expressionism. Brown's work was exhibited widely throughout the United States and Europe, featured in group shows at the Museum of Contemporary Crafts, the Boston Arts Festival, The New Britain Museum of American Art, and many other galleries and museums. Brown's one-person exhibitions include shows at Zygos Gallery in Cyprus and Galeriea de Antonio Souza in Mexico City, as well as galleries and museums in Vermont, Florida, and New York City. Brown's artwork was also displayed in windows at Tiffany's and Bonwit Teller in their New York City department stores. In addition to displaying her work in exhibition settings, Brown received many public and private commissions throughout her career. Her public commissions may be found in many U.S. states including New York, Vermont, New Jersey, Virginia, Georgia, and California; and she has work currently housed with several museums and corporations including the Pepsi Company, Marriott Corporation, Dartmouth College, Vermont Law School, Jewish Museum, and the Museum of Dance. He studied with Howard Giles at the Master Institute of the Roerich Museum in New York where he was introduced to Oriental arts, Chinese and Japanese art forms, and later with Hans Hofmann. He worked for the Federal Arts Project, the WPA, making mural paintings and silkscreen prints as well as easel painting. Once WWII began, Egri signed up to serve as a map maker for the Navy, and was witness to some of the fiercest battles in the Pacific. As an artist, he painted many important depictions of his wartime experiences and these works have all be donated to the U.S. Naval Museum. Already a practicing painter and instructor at the Kansas City Art Institute, Ted Egri came to Taos, New Mexico with his wife Kit in 1950 to continue his study of painting at Ribak's Taos Valley Art School on the GI Bill. Louis Ribak quickly introduced Egri to Eulalia Emetaz, the owner of La Galleria Escondida, who gave him his first one-person show in 1951. A prolific and versatile artist, as well as arts organizer and advocate, Egri's contributions to underserved African American, Native American, Hispanic and women were honored by two Taos mayors, with no less than two Ted Egri days during his 50-year art career in Taos. Egri remained in Taos. He became widely known for his sculpture, influenced by cubism and painting, with his style ranging from abstract to realistic. Egri had incredible draftsmanship - charcoal, pencil, pastel, watercolor, oils, mixed media, pen and ink, acrylic, gouache Over time his work gradually shifted from its focus on human struggle to an exploration of natural elements and the changes that come about as a result of living in a physical environment like Taos. "The impact of the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range and the vast spaces of the mesas directed me toward space and form. I moved into sculpture," Egri said in a 1987 interview with ARTSPACE magazine. He was included in a show at Stables Gallery along with Emil Bisttram, Louis Catusco, Edward Corbett, Lawrence Calcagno, Keith Crown, Andrew Dasburg, John De...
