Deborah Dancy "State of Being 17" - Abstract Acrylic Painting on Paper
By Deborah Dancy
Located in New York, NY
Deborah Dancy State of Being 17, 2021 acrylic on paper 38 x 30 in. (dan039) This original contemporary abstract work on paper by Deborah Dancy is comprised of grey, brown, white, blue, yellow, and black hues, in her signature built up/re-built space that as she says, "operate in a realm in which beauty and tension simultaneously exist without explanation or narrative." Deborah Dancy is an abstract artist. Her paintings and drawings are sensuous provocations beset with marks that guide, then abruptly collide into confrontational slabs of color. There is an atmosphere of complex but urgent tension in her work, as she builds tangential linear demarcations, and abutting shapes, that provoke, entice and disrupt; -taking us everywhere and nowhere. From densely painted forms to more minimally declared images, Dancy’s work operates in the recognition that meanderings, intentional and accidental declarations are best when the beautiful and the disconcerting exist simultaneously. Deborah Dancy was born in Bessemer, Alabama and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She earned BFA from Illinois Wesleyan University and an MS and an MFA from Illinois State University. She is the recipient of John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, a Yaddo Fellow, and a National Endowment of the Arts NEFA award. Her work is in many collections including The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, The Birmingham Museum of Art, The Hunter Museum and The Detroit Institute of Art. Located in New York, NY
Joanne Freeman Cadmium 40, 2021 oil on linen 40 x 30 in. (freem173) This original oil painting on linen by Joanne Freeman features rich, red abstracted shapes on the linen background. "My drawings and paintings utilize geometry and are influenced by architecture and design. They were initially influenced by the symbols and signage found on the streets of New York. That early visual language emerged into a reductive formal language with roots in modernist aesthetics and ideology. My drawings are made with gouache on handmade Indian Khadi paper. The source for the work can be found in the geometry of the city and the effects of light and shadow. They also reference graphic popular culture, specifically the simple direct designs of midcentury media...

Just Around the Corner, Geometric Abstract Painting
By Robert Petrick
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Robert W. Petrick East Village NYC , 2022 acrylic on canvas NYC, 2nd street studio Colorful geometric abstract acrylic painting on canvas from the artist's Urban Construction Series Robert Petrick's paintings create a link between the artist culture of the East Village, where he has lived for 31 years, and the power of symbols, geometry, and language. This work captures the excitement of the East Village in its color, shapes, energy and density. -- In 1984, Petrick stenciled two designs on walls along Avenue B. Capturing a moment in time, EXIST / EXIT and NOWHERE / NOW HERE were photographed and featured in Vogue magazine. The images presented graffiti as art, a concept that was gaining international attention after the release of Charlie Ahearn...

Located in Arp, TX
Opper Estate Maroon Abstract c. 1940-1950's Gouache on Paper 15" x 18" Unframed From the estate of Ruth Friedmann Opper & Jerry Opper. Ruth was the daughter of Bauhaus artist, Gustav Friedmann. San Francisco Abstract Expression A free-spirited wave of creative energy swept through the San Francisco art community after World War II. Challenging accepted modes of painting, Abstract Expressionists produced highly experimental works that jolted the public out of its postwar complacency. Abstract Expressionism resulted from a broad collective impulse rather than the inspiration of a small band of New York artists. Documenting the interchanges between the East and West Coasts, she cites areas of mutual influence and shows the impact of San Francisco on the New York School, including artists such as Mark Rothko and Ad Reinhardt. San Francisco's Beat poets...
