Emma Larsson is a Stockholm-based artist and illustrator. Her work strikes the balance between colourful dreamscape and inarticulable melancholy. Emma has evolved her practice to include expressive and organic watercolors, alongside paintings created with oil and acrylic. She describes her work as an ongoing exploration without rules and conventions, continually generating new forms, patterns and themes. Emma has collaborated with brands and agencies including Rachel Comey, Show Studio, and Winsor & Newton. Emma Larsson was born in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1977. Since her teenage years, Emma has had her own art studio. Even though she studied art, she didn’t get a higher art education because she started to have a big family.
The carpets of Emma Larsson’s In The Meadow collection are inspired by the never-ending wonders of nature. With whimsical and abstract shapes, the carpets depict mesmerising worlds of aquarelle art. The bright and soft colours are an ode to nature’s variety. In The Meadow is Emma Larsson’s contribution to bringing nature indoors, into your space, like ink in water. The intensity of colours creates density while maintaining that ethereal feel. Every day we are surrounded by an endless variety of colours, shapes, textures, and patterns. Every living moment our senses are treated with a beauty only nature can give us. And it gives us everything. It gives us scents and smells that keep us going or calm us down. Plants are rich in scents that seduce and dazzle. Over the past century, a great many plants and flowers went into extinction. Luckily our adventurers from days past collected the most extraordinary plants and flowers during their travels. From the snowy Japanese mountains to the otherworldly sand dunes of modern-day Death Valley. Hypnotised and enthralled as they were, our adventurers simply had to take nature’s works of art with them on their journey. After drawing them in all their glory, they preserved them in glass vials or pressed them between the pages of their notebooks. Some plants were so big they had to be transported on carts and boats. The flora eventually found its way into the laboratories of the early day perfumers. To be extracted and preserved. Unfortunately, during those days the perfuming craze was at its height, and anything that smelled interesting was extracted, bottled and hastily put away in archives. This caused many scents to be forgotten as time passed on, never to be found. Alas, they were lost forever. Or were they? Digging through scent archives all over the world, in museums and universities, the scents of those extinct plants were miraculously found and collected once again. Aromas from creamy looking flowers that would pop open with a loud sizzle found in what is now the state of California to African jungle...
