This rare Kid Creole and the Coconuts announcement/poster was published on the occasion of his December 26th, 1985 show at Carnegie Hall. This was the band's debut performance at Carnegie Hall, and it was written about in the New York Times: "THE POP LIFE; CARNEGIE HALL DEBUT FOR KID CREOLE" (December 25th, 1985).

Unsigned from an edition of unknown.
American latin pop band founded by August Darnell aka Thomas Browder in 1980 in New York City. Fronted by Kid Creole (2) backed by the trio of The Coconuts and also featuring Coati Mundi, they enjoyed most of their success in the eighties. Their debut album was critically well-received but not successful commercially. Their second album was a concept album matched with a New York Public Theater stage production; it received positive reviews, with Darnell recognized as a clever lyricist and astute composer, arranger and producer. Their international breakthrough came with their third album, 1982's Tropical Gangsters, which hit #3 in the UK and spun off three Top 10 hits with Stool Pigeon, Annie, I'm Not Your Daddy and I'm A Wonderful Thing, Baby ; Dear Addy also made the Top 40. In the US the album was retitled Wise Guy and reached #145, and I'm a Wonderful Thing, Baby flirted with the R&B charts. Faust and Marguerite
Faust is tired of his old life and wants to kill himself. In a final burst of bitter anger, he invokes the devil. The devil appears in the guise of Mephistopheles and offers him a pact: he will grant him what he desires most in the world in exchange for his servitude. Faust asks him for youth and his help in seducing Marguerite. When he achieves his goal, bound by his contract with the devil, Faust abandons the latter who is waiting for her child. Filled with remorse, he returns to her, but kills Valentin, Marguerite's brother who tries to stop him, during a duel. He then tries to save the life of Marguerite who is imprisoned for infanticide, but he fails. Like this multifaceted character, the vocal treat-ment chosen by Gounod is differentiated: sometimes very lyrical with touching flights, sometimes very cold and repetitive to evoke her detachment from the world of men.
Marguerite is young and naive. She lets herself be seduced by the charming and mysterious character of Faust and thus causes her own downfall as well as that of her family (her brother and her child will die).
