A superb Victorian - Belle Epoque deeply carved Coral Cameo Ring depicting a nude woman with absolutely magnificent detail and artisanship in a beautiful and elegant Etruscan Revival setting in 14 Karat Gold. The ring dates to circa 1850-1880. The coral is between red and a salmon color - a stunningly beautiful color! The ring features the most beautifully carved high relief coral cameo of a nude woman. The face is exquisite with an angelic cherubic expression. I love the way the artist has created her nude form to gently extend over the border of the ring. The carving is very deeply 3-dimensional attesting to the fine quality of the work. The setting with the four gold beads at the corners is in the Etruscan Revival style.

The ring is a masterpiece of the Art Deco period with its dramatic color and style yet very clean lines. The ring features the two absolutely gorgeous natural Red - Salmon Coral cabochon gems. I love the color and cut of this Coral. The round coral cabochons are each 1/2 inch in diameter and the total length of the top of the ring is 1 inch. Such a dramatic and wonderful antique Art Deco Coral jewel. And we love our antique coral in this vivid color.
The interior of the ring band is engraved with initials which I believe are A R and the date 1924 and hallmarked 585 for 14 Karat Gold. It is so very difficult to find original Art Deco Coral rings...

Rare Japan Shakudo Snake Ring 14 Karat Gold Antique Victorian Samurai circa 1870

This is a very rare ring depicting a snake traveling through the grass in the historic Japanese art form of Shakudo, in 14 Karat Gold. The Shakudo pieces originated in the Samurai period in Japan and were created by esteemed artists who made ornaments to adorn swords and armor. When the Samurai period ended, these artists moved to making wearable art during the period of the 1870s - 1900.
Here we have a very rare Shakudo piece of a snake traveling through grass. Notice the grace of the proportion of the images and the Japanese esthetic of asymmetry. The mixed metals Shakudo plaque is set in 14 Karat Gold.
In the Victorian era the snake was the symbol of eternal love. It has come to symbolize sexuality, rebirth and wisdom.
Snake jewelry is highly desirable and collected today.
