Rare Free-Form Table by Sculptor Knut Hesterberg, Published

This beautiful and elegant free-form table by German sculptor Knut Hesterberg was produced by the German company, Ronald Schmidt, in very small numbers during the short period of 1974-1975 and so is very rarely seen on the market. The sculptural base is made of pressure die cast aluminium.
This design is published as Figure 30 in Belloli's monograph on Hesterberg's work entitled "Knut Hesterberg, Skulptur and design" by Carlo Belloli, Milan, Italy which was published in 1983. A copy of the original page documenting this table will be provided to the buyer. (please see image 4).
Knut Hesterberg is a world famous German sculptor who started his career at the graphic arts and design studio in Zurich, Switzerland where he came into contact with the architect and artist Max Bill who had a great influence on his future work. He has exhibited his sculptures all over Europe and many of his large scale sculptures are permanently installed in public spaces throughout Germany and a few in Italy (please see image 10 for an example) . Supremely elegant and super rare coffee table by Milan architect Lorenzo Forges Davanzati, produced by ELAM,Italy in1961. This design was produced in two sizes this is the larger and rarer variant of an already extremely rare design.
The table is made of enameled wood with a decorative stainless steel insert to the pedestal. This table is very seldom seen and was published in Casa Vogue,Domus and the italian design bible "repertorio 1950-80".
The table has some minor losses to the original lacquer which can easily be touched in and refinished to blend in with the original lacquer.
In November 2009 the first major monograph on Forges Davanzati's architectural and design work was published.

Right after I graduated as an Industrial designer back in 1999 I started a furniture brand together with my friend Steven Brouns. We felt there was a need for a new type of furniture that was able to adjust itself to the ever changing life situations. Hence the name Livingelements. The name JZUZ was conceived because we believed we had to spread the message of this new kind of living. The first elements were a u and a square shaped seating element.
