I met the artist on many occasions in the late 1990s when I lived in New York and he was a very talented and pleasant chap.
I asked him to paint different commissions for a client who wanted a certain color or subject and he was always able to amaze me with what he could produce.

Wonderful French period copy of the famous painting by Jean-Baptiste Édouard Detaille, which the original is now in a museum in Paris.
This piece came from a private collection in New Jersey where it had been since it was purchased in France back in the 1950s. The previous owner was an Art dealer in NYC during the 1950s-70s and she kept some of her favorite paintings, this being one of them.

History of the scene:
In the Siege of Hüningen (27 November 1796 – 1 February 1797), the Austrians captured the city from the French. Hüningen is in the present-day Department of Haut-Rhin, France. Its fortress lay approximately 2.5 miles (4.0 km) north of the Swiss city of Basel and .5 miles (0.80 km) north of the spot where the present-day borders of Germany, France, and Switzerland meet. During the time of this siege, the village was part of the Canton of Basel City and the fortress lay in an area contested between the German states and the First French Republic.

The elder brother of painter Auguste Feyen-Perrin, Jacques-Eugène enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts and studied under Paul Delaroche. He had a notable career at the Paris Salon from 1841 to 1882. Vincent van Gogh was a fan of Feyen and describes him as, "one of the few painters who pictures intimate modern life as it really is, and does not turn it into fashion plates." Charles Thomas Bale was born in Soho, London in 1849, the son of Thomas Bale, a basket maker. His older brother Thomas Charles Bale (1831-1899) was an artist and picture restorer. He lived with his family in St James, Westminster and although little is known about his education, he would have undoubtedly received encouragement and drawing tuition from his brother. Bale started exhibiting in 1866 at the Institute of British Artists, Suffolk Street. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1872, the same year he married Caroline Leathem. Together, they spent their married life in St Pancras. Moroney was born on the 14th of February 1949 in South London. Of Anglo Irish parentage, his father was typical of his generation and worried about Ken’s artistic temperament which he viewed as effeminate. As a result, Ken took up boxing and won a gold medal for South London in his teens. His art continued to flourish with his trademark striking use of color. His main medium oils and he favors romantic subjects of Edwardian times. Ken has traveled extensively and spent 2 years working for major galleries in New York. The Royal Academy nominated him in 1976 as being one of the few promising young artists to emerge this century: "Ken Moroney has considerable talent, any painting purchased now can only be seen as a sound long term investment."
Ken Moroney's work now hangs in many important collections and has had paintings exhibited at The Royal Academy (London), and the Kline Galleries (Canada).
