Peter Stephens "Rio" Acrylic and Collage on Wood
By Peter Stephens
Located in New York, NY
"I marvel at the fundamental forces of nature, the laws that determine the structure and behavior of matter, the ways and means of how the world looks the way it does. This interest in the science of the natural world led me to read deeply into the physics behind mechanisms of pattern generation. My painting language is based in these wonderments of systems and outcomes and the mathematics that describe them. These new paintings take form with an underlying grid of commercial paint sample cards. This allows me a spontaneous, interchangeable surface to explore color relationships and interactions within given parameters. The layers of acrylic matrix elements come next, all handwork applied line by line. As with numbers in equations, the quantities, sequences, repetitions, and rhythms all contribute to a rich optical blend of color combinations. A given set of colors results in an exponential number of different perceptions. Along with these pure abstractions of form and color come cultural references to histories of art and design with immediate associations to sumptuous textiles and complex architectural mosaics. The evolution of this work is ongoing, it will change and develop as each new mutation moves the morphology forward. These paintings are not illustrations of specific laws that shape the universe and ourselves but an artist’s answer to their implicit resonances. The paintings translate scientific inspirations into a visual, multilayered landscape that in layer after layer enfold one gradient of reality on another." - Peter Stephens

Stanley Bielen "Essen" Framed Oil on Paper Painting
By Stanley Bielen
Located in New York, NY
"For several decades the main focus of my work as a painter has been small format still lives. Simple arrangements of familiar things, placed on a shelf in natural light. The subject of the paintings being the interaction between object, light, and the enveloping atmosphere of a given day. The comfort of repetition, of returning to limited, familiar variables, has allowed me freedom to shift my attention to the act of painting itself. To explore paints quality and ability to create both an allusion of appearance and simultaneously be satisfying in and of itself." - Stanley Bielen Stanley Bielen was born in the Podkarpackie region of Poland. Deborah Dancy "State of Being 17" - Abstract Acrylic Painting on Paper
By Deborah Dancy
Located in New York, NY
Deborah Dancy State of Being 17, 2021 acrylic on paper 38 x 30 in. (dan039) This original contemporary abstract work on paper by Deborah Dancy is comprised of grey, brown, white, blue, yellow, and black hues, in her signature built up/re-built space that as she says, "operate in a realm in which beauty and tension simultaneously exist without explanation or narrative." Deborah Dancy is an abstract artist. Her paintings and drawings are sensuous provocations beset with marks that guide, then abruptly collide into confrontational slabs of color. There is an atmosphere of complex but urgent tension in her work, as she builds tangential linear demarcations, and abutting shapes, that provoke, entice and disrupt; -taking us everywhere and nowhere. From densely painted forms to more minimally declared images, Dancy’s work operates in the recognition that meanderings, intentional and accidental declarations are best when the beautiful and the disconcerting exist simultaneously. Deborah Dancy was born in Bessemer, Alabama and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She earned BFA from Illinois Wesleyan University and an MS and an MFA from Illinois State University. She is the recipient of John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, a Yaddo Fellow, and a National Endowment of the Arts NEFA award. Her work is in many collections including The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, The Birmingham Museum of Art, The Hunter Museum and The Detroit Institute of Art. "My drawings and paintings utilize geometry and are influenced by architecture and design. They were initially influenced by the symbols and signage found on the streets of New York. That early visual language emerged into a reductive formal language with roots in modernist aesthetics and ideology. My drawings are made with gouache on handmade Indian Khadi paper. The source for the work can be found in the geometry of the city and the effects of light and shadow. They also reference graphic popular culture, specifically the simple direct designs of midcentury media...
