A very attractive blonde oak centre table by James Shoolbred. The table is raised on turned and fluted legs, united by an X-framed stretcher with bobbin turned decoration, the table edge is also carved. The underside of the table has a plaque with Shoolbred’s London trade details, ‘James Shoolbred & Co. Tottenham House, Tottenham Court Road, London’. James Shoolbred & Co were established in the 1820s and started out as a draper and later became a department store in Tottenham Court Road. Shoolbred expanded into the stores either side and by the 1870s they were designing, manufacturing and selling high quality furniture, until 1931 when the company ceased trading.
