Charles Mills and Sons Bradford was the maker of the furniture for the New Liberal Club House, Bradford, in 1877 and walnut fittings and furniture for the new restaurant and reading room at the Boar’s Head, Bradford, in 1885 (The Furniture Gazette, 7 July 1877 & 1 January 1886 respectively). The firm exhibited two oak sideboards, a rosewood mantel with overmantel and other furniture at the Yorkshire Fine Arts Society Show, Leeds, 1881 [The Furniture Gazette, 5 March 1881]. Its display at the Industrial & Fine Art Exhibition, Bradford Technical School, 1882, included a bedroom suite of wainscot oak, with purple wood mouldings, the panels of figured ebony and carvings of cedar, design modern Queen Anne. A Gothic Revival oak armchair designed by John Pollard Seddon, made by his family firm Thomas Seddon (Seddon and Co). Based in Bond Street, they supplied furniture to Windsor castle and Buckingham Palace, founded by his Great Grandfather George Seddon.
He exhibited an almost identical armchair on the Morris, Marshall, Faulkner and Co stand at the 1862 International Exhibition, illustrated in JEREMY COOPERS Victorian and Edwardian Furniture and Interiors.
Seddon's also worked with E.W. Godwin, was a friend of the Pre-Raphaelites.

WMF A rare cutlery service for 12 persons in original stylised secessionist oak cabinet with single drawer, lower shelf and stylised silver plated mounts and handles, the lower plaque with space for engraving has never been engraved and it has it's original keys. The interior lining has worn in places. Some blocks have come unstuck that hold some of the pieces in place. A nice little restoration project to bring back to its former glory and priced accordingly.
