The antique set of cup and saucer was created by Charles Field Haviland and hand painted by a professional artist in a decorating studio. The rare, hand to find blank features a streamlined flat cup form with a sculptural detailed handle. The artist painted 3 different landscapes of lakes or large rivers, surrounded by hills with lush vegetation; 2 of the landscapes include small boats on the water. The highly detailed, beautifully executed landscapes are prominently placed on the bottom and the side of the cup and in the center of the saucer and framed with gold trim, with crisp white color of semi-translucent porcelain serving as a matting. The rims and the handle are accented with gold trim.
The pieces are marked with the green underglaze CFH/GDM marks, dating to 1882-1891, and overglaze artists initials in gold. The set is in very good antique condition with minimal wear on gold that is appropriate to its age. We are offering a set of sugar bowl and creamer, decorated by the same artist with the landscape views in the same style, and most possibly a part of the same service, in a separate listing.
The advent of Arts and Craft Movement created the notion that the aesthetic quality of everyday utilitarian objects could be improved by merit of craftsmanship, and many painters and artists felt inspired to merge their activities into decorative arts, such as ceramics, decor objects, or dinnerware. The striking vintage studio pottery ceramic vase is decorated with crystalline glaze in contrasting blue and mustard yellow colors. The vase was hand thrown on a wheel; blue color crystals on ombre colored base, shifting from ligher shade of yellow on top to deep mustard yellow on the bottom, were grown in a kiln during a very long, controlled firing. Each crystalline piece is unique due to the nature of the glaze. The vase was allowed to develop an abundance of distinct, graphic crystals, creating a free-flowing abstract pattern and adding rich texture to the minimally shaped piece.

Antique or vintage woven pie, picnic, or market basket features a traditional rectangular shape with reinforced rim, hinged lid, wooden shelf insert, and twin solid wood handles. The rim is formed by carved bent ash splints, and the lid is reinforced with carved solid wood elements. The handles and wooden trim on the lid add not only visual interest, but also structural stability and ease of use to the piece; the insert allows for the additional functionality.
The basket is in very good antique or vintage condition with beautiful, age-appropriate patina on wood; its convenient size and shape and sturdy construction allow it to be used both as a decor piece and as decorative storage.
