Emanuel Berànek started his studio in Czechoslovakia during the war using waste broken glass in peat furnaces. From the 1950s until the company's demise in 2008, nearly every one of Czechoslovakia’s best and more influential glass designers worked with the studio including now globally revered names such as Frantisek Vízner, Vladimír Jelínek, Ludvika Smrckova and Pavel Hlava.
