Japanese Porcelain Dragon Glazed Vase Mazuku Kozan
By Makuzu Kozan
Located in Atlanta, GA
A porcelain vase with dragon motif by Japanese imperial potter Makuzu Kozan (1842-1916), circa 1900s. The vase is made in what is considered early phase of his underglaze period during late Meiji era. In a classic elongated baluster form, the surface of the vase was decorated in an unusual pink mist on a white and aubergine background (called Morotai, the Hazy style), on which a flying dragon is showcased on the center. The dragon was outlined in iron red and filled with the aubergine color and was artistically emphasized on its bulging eyes, claws, scales and a long tail. It was the sole focus of the design circumventing the entire body of the vase. The imagery calls in mind the dragon decoration found in Korean...

Contemporary Japanese Blue Gray Gold Porcelain Matcha Tea Cup by Master Artist
Located in Takarazuka, JP
Japanese contemporary porcelain tea cup/matcha cup, hand painted in blue underglaze in stunning shades of blue and gray on an elegantly shaped ovoid porcelain body, a signed piece by highly acclaimed master porcelain artist in the Imari-Arita tradition. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain, a large lidded jar in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. This artist is the recipient of numerous awards for his exceptional porcelain work and his unique signature gold and platinum work on porcelain. His profile is available upon request.
This stunning porcelain Japanese matcha tea cup depicts elegant gold fish in soft shades of blue, decorated with gold swimming all around the body of the vase, the intricate wave pattern indicates that the fish are swimming in the ocean. Two bands of exquisite floral patterns decorate the top of the vase all the way to the rim, to add another layer of interest to this piece.
“Fired-on gold,” this artist’s signature style, highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome overglaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as 5-10 firings. This artist's profile is available upon request.

A Massive Antique Japanese Arita Porcelain Plate by Kajiwara Kiln
Located in Atlanta, GA
On offer is a truly impressive blue and white porcelain plate of Hizen ware, from Arita in Japan, circa mid to late-19th century. The plate was made by Kajiwara Kikujiro (菊次郎, the second Kiku son) and/or Kajiwara Kikusaburo (菊三郎, the third Kiku son who died in 1883) of the Kajiware Family Kiln of in Arita. It was decorated in a superb design with blue under-glaze, clearly out of a hand of a master. In a Classic Japanese composition that was popular in the Meiji Period, the plate displays a riot of auspicious elements, arranged still in a surprisingly harmonious manner. Anchoring the center of the design is an eagle perched on the branch of a blooming cherry tree, its talons clenching the bark and its wings about to open. The motion of the its immediate taking off is palpable. The trunk and the branches of the old cherry tree provide a spacial frame for the arrangement of large peonies with foliage, bundles of chrysanthemums, Chinese bell...

Satsuma earthenware vase by kinkozan, Meiji period
By Kinkozan
Located in Tel Aviv - Jaffa, IL
the body of this small marvelous vase is painted with a scene of a puppet show vendor with his wood backpack, on top of the backpack there are toys and dolls, he is surrounded with a group of 6 children, and on the background you can see a village.
on the other side of the vase there is an amazing painting of flowers and on the sides there are two amazing strong pine trees, the amorphous background is decorated in a "Tortoiseshell" color and design that gives it a real character and which is quite rare to see on satsuma pottery.
all the vase is over richly overpainted over the glaze with gold, which gives it its depth and realism.
signed Kyoto Kinkozan zo, and sealed Kinkozan zo
Kyoto’s Satsuma:
The painting technique used in Kyoto’s Satsuma-style ware is said to be the invention of the sixth generation Kinkōzan Sōbei (1824–1884). The Kinkōzan were a famous family of Kyoto Awataguchi potters who made ceramics that were used at Shōren'in, a temple closely tied to the imperial family, and by the shoguns of the Edo government. In fact the shogun is said to have granted them the name Kinkōzan. With the upheavals at the end of the Edo period, however, and the reforms of the subsequent Meiji government, the potters lost their traditional patrons and had to develop new markets.
Just at that time, the visit of a certain Westerner is said to have decided them to embark on overseas trade. By 1870, they had perfected Kyō Satsuma...
