Japanese "Suiseki" Mountain View Scholar
s Stone / Elegant Mountain Scenery
Located in Sammu-shi, Chiba
This is a stone mined in Japan.
Not only in China but also in Japan from ancient times, rocks in the mountains have been shaved and stones for viewing have been quarried.
Such stones for appreciation are collectively called "suiseki".
Suiseki means "water" and "stone".
The name comes from the fact that I enjoyed pouring water on the stones and changing the color of the stones.
And this item is also Suiseki, but it is for viewing without splashing water.
It is made with the image of a mountain view.
The flow of the river...

Japanese Woodblock Print Misty Evening Shinobazu Pond Shiro Kasamatsu
Located in Atlanta, GA
A poetically ambient Japanese woodblock print by Shiro Kasamatsu (1898-1991). Entitled "Kasumu Yube, Shinobazu Chihan" (Misty Evening at Shinobazu Pond), the print is one of the best-known landscape works by the artist. In an unusual color variation of near monotone "Arizuri" blue, the print depicts a spring evening by the pond when the sunset is receding into the night. The dim light with a soft glow was wonderfully reflected in the image. Composed in a perspective that is more western view, the image of the figures taking the steps under the Torii gate plays hide and seek through the branches of the weeping willows by the pond. The nearly all blue color, facilitated only with the dark silhouette of the trunk, renders the imagery a moody emotion.
On the left margin there is the Title in Japanese (霞む夕べ 不忍池畔)and the artist's name Kasamatsu Shiro...

Kinpei Nakamura Signed Japanese Abstract Pottery Vase With Original Sealed Box
Located in Studio City, CA
A wonderfully designed and crafted abstract Japanese studio pottery vase/sculpture by renowned potter Kinpei (Kimpei) Nakamura (1935- ).
Kinpei Nakamura was born in the town of Kanazawa, A chance encounter with pottery master Kitaôji Rosanjin at a young age influenced him greatly and he began his artistic pottery career in Japan during the 1960s. Early on, he was heavily influenced by 20th Century Western abstract painting and sculpture as well as Jomon-style ceramics and modernist sculpture (as clearly seen in this piece). His experiments with forms and textures were considered quite radical at the time. He would later travel to the united States to further his studies (he was inspired by American potters such as Peter Voulkos) and career. Today his works can be found in major ceramic art collections and museums worldwide.
The work is signed by Nakamura on the base and comes with the original signed and sealed box...

Japanese Maru Obi with Gold Embroidered Dragons – Silk Brocade, Taisho to Showa
Located in Fukuoka, JP
A magnificent example of Japanese textile artistry, this vintage maru obi dates from the Taisho to early Showa period (circa 1920–1950). Woven in luxurious silk, it features a richly detailed brocade design with mythological dragons encircled by flames and stylized clouds—symbols of strength, protection, and imperial authority in Japanese culture.
The opulent gold and beige ground is accented with bold tones of red, green, black, and purple, showcasing intricate weaving techniques and vibrant color contrasts. Hexagonal panels with floral motifs in gold and black add structure and visual rhythm to the piece. Measuring 341 cm in length and 32 cm in width, this maru obi was traditionally worn for formal kimono occasions and would have wrapped fully around the waist.
Today, it makes a powerful statement as a display piece—whether mounted as wall art or draped as a textile sculpture—highlighting the beauty and craftsmanship of early 20th-century Japanese weaving...

Kaoru Kawano Signed Large Japanese Woodblock Print Dancing Geisha Figure Eshima
By Kaoru Kawano
Located in Studio City, CA
A beautiful work by famed Japanese artist Kaoru Kawano who was known for his whimsical portrayals of women, children, and animals. Stylistically, he was one of the first Japanese artists to combine Western-style elements with the traditional methods of woodblock printmaking. This work is known as "Dancing Figure (Eshima)"
The print is signed (in white ink within the image) and sealed (in red) by Kawano.
This work is a quite rare self-printed lifetime double dai Oban large-size print. The quality and colors are striking. It is likely from a limited edition and perhaps numbered on the lower margin (we can not verify as it was previously framed but we are confident that this is the case).
A very beautiful and rich image. Would make for a great addition to any Japanese art and print collection or Stand-out accent work in about any setting.
