Regence style tripod giltwood stand
Located in Paris, FR
Stand or torchiere holder in gilded wood, molded and carved with shells, scrolls and acanthus leaves on a tripod base. Regency style. It can hold a torchiere or a vase. What is a torchiere? The word torchere is first mentioned, according to Harvard, in the dictionnaire de l'Académie in 1696, but, the author points out, the term had already been in use for more than twenty years. At first, the torchere seems to have been a large candlestick, significantly larger and sturdier than ordinary candlesticks. A little later, the torchiere was transformed into a pedestal table on which candlesticks, candelabras and girandoles were placed. Intended for the homes of the wealthy classes, the silver torchiere...

Antique French Architectural Spiral Turned Giltwood Column Tall Pedestal Carving
Located in Forney, TX
A most impressive authentic antique architectural salvage hand carved gessoed and gilded solid wood spiral turned classical Ionic order column, with lavishly decorated shaft wrapped in trailing foliage relief carvings, topped with an integral capital with scroll volutes. France, 19th century, luxurious Baroque taste, almost certainly commissioned for and originally part of a Catholic church, this repurposed building element now mounted on a substantial white painted domed cylindrical base and fashioned into a highly decorative sculptural object / display pedestal / torchiere candle stand or potentially mounted as an electrified floor lamp / jardiniere plant stand or whatever else you can imagine! Dimensions (approx): 51.5" Tall, 13.5" Diameter Condition: Overall great antique condition with warm rich patina and brilliant luster. On sturdy later base. Likely regilded or touched up in the past. Strong, stable, structurally sound. Wear consistent with age, use, handling & exposure, including scattered nicks, chippy paint losses, exposing gesso, old nail holes from mounting, etc. Some fading, discoloration and surface fissures to base. Nothing that detracts from the aesthetics or functionality, but only adds to the authenticity, sophisticated antique character, charm, elegant warmth, and unique rich historical interest! The photos finish the description. Worldwide Professional Shipping / In-home White-glove Delivery Service available. Please allow up to eight weeks for delivery.
