Postale Mailbox in Oiled Honduran Mahogany, Wooda Original
Located in Omro, WI
Mailboxes are in much need of redesign, and Wooda’s Postale fits the bill. Being that we are Wisconsin based and have to deal with winter, we decided to cantilever our mailbox far from the post to allow ample room for snow plows, while also placing the box as close to the road as possible for easy delivery and pickup. No more rain-soaked mail with the eave over the door for protection. Design lovers have finally found their perfect mailbox. Postale is an original Wooda design made from Honduran...

Mid Century Modern Tessellated Travertine Pedestal manner of Karl Springer
Located in Swedesboro, NJ
This striking Mid Century Modern tessellated travertine pedestal is a bold and elegant statement piece, designed in the highly coveted manner of Karl Springer. Tsonoqua/Dzunkukwa "Wild Woman of the Woods" Totem
Located in Coeur d Alene, ID
Tsonoqua/Dzunukwa, “The Wild Woman of the Woods,” is an important ancestor figure to the Kwakwaka’wakw people of British Columbia. A giantess that fills important cultural roles during the potlatch, she is best known as a wealth-bringing being to those who encounter her and as a creature that parents tell their children stories about to make them behave and not venture far from the village – as she is also a cannibal and has been known to snatch stray children from the woods. She is the female counterpart of the male Bak’was, the Kwakwaka’wakw “Wild Man of the Woods.” Tsonoqua is analogous to the Coast Salish Sasq’ets, better known as Sasquatch, the Nuxalk Sniniq (female) and Buks (male), the Tsimshian Ba’oosh, the Haida Gagiit, the Athabaskan Hairy Man (or Woman), and the Tlingit Tl’anaxéedáakw. She is also what a lot of folks would call Bigfoot. This pole is carved in a Coast Salish style but shows several Kwakwaka’wakw influences, so is perhaps better termed a female Sasq’ets pole. This pole shares a lot of stylistic elements with work by the Coast Salish Horne family and was perhaps carved by one of them. The features of the face that identify this pole as a Wild Woman are the tightly squinted eyes, the prominent cheekbones, and the pursed red lips that depict her making her telltale whistling call. Large breasts are created by “split-u” formline elements on her chest, motifs which are repeated (unpainted) on her arms and legs. Her hands and appropriately large feet are rendered naturalistically, and she is depicted in a kneeling position. A very fine example of Northwest Coast carving. Period: Last quarter 20th century Origin: Salish Size: 49"H x 17'W. Italian Ancient Botticino Marble Pair of Pinnacles, circa 1850
Located in Milano, IT
Pair of pinnacles Northern Italy, mid-19th century Botticino marble, carved They measure 33.1 inches in height x 17.7 x 17.7 (84 cm x 45 x 45) State of conservation: some visible cracks and various small gaps. The two twin architectural elements of sculpted Botticino marble have a quadrangular base from which a chalice-shaped foot extends. Resting on this, a round pod-like element swells up to support a large pine cone. This is the main decoration: however, the other ornamental details enhance and embellish it, while exalting its position above, whether observed from afar or up close. These aesthetic characteristics suggest that originally the pair of pinnacles were placed on columns or on architectural plinths...

Antique and Vintage Pedestals and Columns

Antique and vintage columns and pedestals can make a statement in your home with their timeless beauty. They have a rich architectural history, from ancient Egyptian columns adorned with lotus capitals to the stylized Corinthian columns of Greece. Today, they can add refinement to your spaces, both indoors and out.

The options for pedestals and columns are endless. Influenced by everything from ancient ruins to European palaces, columns and pedestals include contemporary designs and distressed pieces. There are modern designs from all over the world, such as Pakistani, Italian and French examples. Other designs draw on architectural heritage, like those created in the Louis XIV style, which references Greece and Rome and evokes the decadence of Versailles through gold and vivid colors.

The materials used in columns and pedestals can vary widely. Marble and gilt pedestals add elegance, while patina brass columns offer sophistication. An upcycled item such as an industrial press can become a column, while certain mid-century barstools can be repurposed as pedestals.

Whether elaborate Victorian or Art Deco designs, pedestals and columns can be the base for another piece of art, adding height or accenting a sculpture. One or several can display ferns or other plants with trailing vines. Some pedestals come with planters for this purpose.

On their own, these elements can provide character and a touch of antiquity to one’s decor. Columns and pedestals made of stone, wood and rattan are among those available on 1stDibs. Browse hundreds of columns and pedestals to find one for your space.
