Dame Lucie Rie, 1950 s Porcelain Footed Bowl with Manganese Glaze.
By Lucie Rie
Located in London, GB
This is a great example of a Lucie Rie iconic hand-thrown, footed bowl with manganese glaze. It is thinly potted and slightly pulled into an ovoid shape with an undulating rim. The running glaze is subtle whilst adding an individual element to the decoration of the bowl. The bowl bears the artist's monogram seal mark under. Lucie Rie was an Austrian-born British ceramics artist. Rie’s works, usually consisting of hand-thrown pots, bottles, and bowl forms, are noteworthy for their Modernist forms. Born in 1902 in Vienna, Austria, she studied pottery at the Vienna Kunstgewerbeschule, a school of arts and crafts. In 1937, she won a silver medal at the Paris International Exhibition and by the following year, Rie moved to London to flee Nazi Austria. Once settled in the British capital, she maintained a small studio and continued to produce pottery and small clay objects, including ceramic buttons and jewellery which she sold to support herself. She was later joined by Hans Coper, a young artist who soon became a partner in her studio. She taught at the Camberwell School of Art from 1960...

George III Marble and Blue John Dolphin Tazza
By Sir William Chambers
Located in New Orleans, LA
This important George III tazza is attributed to famed Scottish-Swedish architect Sir William Chambers. The magnificent piece features a base carved from statuary marble in the shape of a stylized dolphin, which relates to Chambers' extraordinary 18th-century architectural designs. A marvel of beauty and craftsmanship, the tazza is also inset with specimens of Derbyshire Blue John in both the plinth and bowl. Blue John is one of the most in-demand decorative stones in the world, and its inclusion in this piece elevates the tazza to a true Georgian masterpiece. Due to its popularity, the largest veins of Blue John had disappeared by the early 19th century, and only a small amount of the stone remains today. Because of its scarcity, most examples of Blue John furniture feature only small inset veneers. By contrast, this rare tazza features not one, but two substantial specimens of the stone. It represents some of the last ornamental wares created of such grand size and proportion, though other smaller examples still grace the stately British estates of Chatsworth, Hardwick, Kedleston and Haddon, among others. Not only does this tazza boast a highly rare material, but it was also designed by one of the most important architects and designers of the Georgian era. Sir William Chambers was a Scottish-Swedish architect based in London who was active during the reigns of Kings George II and George III. Celebrated for his combination of English Palladianism...

John Ridgway Ironstone Bowl Hand-Painted pattern, William 1Vth Circa 1835
By John Ridgways
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a highly decorative, ironstone, twin handled circular footed Bowl by John Ridgway, dating to the English William 1Vth period, circa 1835 . The bowl has been carefully hand-painted in bold colorful enamels with a chinoiserie pattern of three oriental people travelling on a boat, pattern number 5057. It is also richly hand gilded. John Ridgway operated at his father’s celebrated Cauldon Place works, Shelton, Hanley, England, between 1830-1856, producing some fine porcelain and stone China of excellent quality. His stone China earthenwares and ironstone wares are discussed on page 305 of Godden's Guide to Ironstone, Stone and Granite Wares written by Geoffrey Godden for the Antique Collectors Club. This piece is fully marked to the base with an Imperial Stone China...
